Always been my favourite Christmas song. Great bassline too.
I think it was Tracy Wormworth - now in the B52s Most of the classic xmas songs were from the 60's and 70's. That was 40/50 years ago. People in retirement homes were still relatively young then so the songs are probably from their era.

Location: A church hall near Gateshead Age 20 in 1984 Bass: Ibanez Blazer - I played some bass but mainly sang Amp: Marshall 2195 100 watt Lead & Bass Head through a 4x12 which I'm sure was called a Silicon Blue but can't find anything on Google Set List: Mainly own songs starting with a 10 minute long Hawkwind-like instrumental (for some reason called Tarzan ) The only cover I can remember was Ashton Gardner & Dyke's Resurrection Shuffle The keyboard player only agreed to do the gig if he could do a solo trumpet spot in the middle of the set. He got up and played the Last Post!

Classic gear, how good was it really.
John Shuttleworth?
He's updated to an Austin Ambassador Y Reg these days I believe -
Are the Aria TA series still available? I swapped an early Sheraton for one in the 90s as the Sheraton was just too big for me. It was like going to a 7/8 size and I loved it til it was stolen
I am sure it will be a problem with the connection between the battery and pre-amp board.
Much delayed reply (I only got round to fixing it a couple of weeks ago) but it turned out to be a bad soldered joint on the battery box. Cheers!

Another vote for Orange.

After a bit of research I think it was Brian Badhams. That quote worked well didn't it!! It referred to the Steve Gibbons Band bass player.

Here's a tenuous gear related claim to fame. I played in a band whose drummer used the kit in the photo, many years after that picture was taken. Check out the bass player standing behind the kit. Also, the bass player from the Steve Gibbons Band once bought me a pint. Nice bloke but I can't remember his name.
If you can make the pain bearable, do the gig. If you need to change the lines, change them. I did a gig after a skirting board incident with a sharp implement that meant that night I could only play root notes. But I played them well, so everyone was happy.
I've done this after almost removing the tip of my middle finger. I just simplified it all - nobody even commented.
We have a local rock guitarist here Greg Koch, maybe you've heard of him. I've heard critical comments from other local guitarists, because they don't like like his "in your face" aggressive execution and style. https://youtu.be/jQQIT4SJHpY Greg also got to where he is on the "hard work express" Those other guitarist are on "excuse express" Blue
I love his playing, particularly the Tone Controls stuff. I've probably never heard of the other local guitarists!

I thought of that but I've just never got round to it. There's always something more important to do isn't there?!!

I've done a Stingray one with a hand jigsaw, hand drill, files and sandpaper - none of this modern electric stuff! Took ages but was quite satisfying - until I rushed the screw holes and drilled 3 of them in the wrong place - they still don't have screws in but nobody has ever noticed

Halfway through a set and you smell burning......
el borracho replied to Paulgm1's topic in General Discussion
When playing the drums I once had to stop mid song to tell the singer his hair was smoking. A cigarette end thrown from someone in the audience had got stuck in it (in the days of smoking in pubs) Mind you smelling burning during a gig is preferable to smelling burning during a flight - that wasn't a good experience -
When you do replace the strings you might surprised how much brighter and zingier the new ones are. String degradation happens so slowly it can be almost unnoticeable, especially if you practice every day.
I always use Pro Steels and I'm always surprised how bright they sound when I change them. For your first gig I would stick with what you've got - one less thing to worry about. Enjoy - I can still remember my first gig more than a lot of others since!
I realise the whole acoustic guitar and looper thing is his thing, but I reckon he'd be better off with a band. And a grown up's guitar.
Totally agree.

I once lost one off my Ibanez Musician at a gig. It seems unlikely that both screws would have fallen out - they never had before or since (I replaced with it with an old bit of bakelite). I can only assume someone went to the bother of unscrewing it while nobody was looking!

What period/style of music inspired you to start playing?
el borracho replied to TheGreek's topic in General Discussion
It was 70s & early 80s rock for me. The one moment in particular being when I saw John McCoy playing with Gillan and I went home wanting a white Precision, having played guitar up to that point! -
An Ibanez Roadster RS824 that I bought in 1986. I hadn't used it for years but recently I have put it back to standard after 20 years fitted with EMGs so it is getting the odd outing.
Can't recall the brand but it was something like Westfield or Westbury - not Westone but pretty sure it was a longish W word.
I know it doesn't start with a W but you mention Westbury - Shaftsbury maybe?

Looks to be a lot of black around the forearm cutaway - ply body??? What exactly is 1969 about it? I would avoid unless it was a lot cheaper - actually I would probably just avoid!
