1. I got a neck from Jathan. It's exactly as described, arrived quickly and was very well packaged. Great communication and provided me with tracking number. An easy transaction - would have no hesitation buying again. Cheers
2.
My 86 Monarch was a cracking bass. Separate volume and tone for each pickup but also a, very handy, flick switch to go from neck P only to both pickups to bridge J.
I've only had two P/J basses. Both had that handy flick switch. Vol up full on the P, fully down on the J - a easy on/off switch!!
3.
Shakin with the devil, the best of the Pirates, great rock n roll.
Good choice - Me too!! The Pirates :Out of Our Skulls Bruce Springsteen: Best of Reverend Horton Heat: Lucky 7 Gillan: Glory Road Magazine: Real Life Dada: El Subliminoso
4. I don't read well so it's always a lot of listening. Never been paid over £50 for a dep but it is pub gigs. I've also learnt around 60 songs before (not my usual genre and they gave me the old set list first!!) then done two gigs for no money as the drummer disappeared with it all
5.
I would love a Hard Puncher
My current main bass has a Tokai Hard Puncher neck complete with logo. It's a fake Tokai though - the body is a Fender
6.
To top it off you are going to tell us they have a keys player and all the songs are in C which is what he has the gadget set to anyway?
I was once in a band where the keyboard player played all the songs in C!! The keyboard could transpose keys so he moved them all to C whatever the key. Not sure why as he was quite capable of playing in any key.
7.
Brilliant! I'm about to do exactly the same myself inspired by Mcnash's (and now your own) excellent results. Trouble is, I can't get away from that Capri orange colour either! Trying to convince myself that I should pick a different shade, but I keep coming back to the orange...
+1 Mines in the sanding process now! Unfortunately I bought a primed "ready to paint" body that wasn't my idea of ready to paint. When sanding it smells like household paint - think I'm going to take it back to wood and start again.
8. I think it's a Clarissa - they were Italian made if my memory is right.
9. CSL = C Summerfield Ltd. They were the Ibanez importers at the time and had some instruments made with their own name on. You will find more info if you search the Japcrap Spotting thread.
10. I assume this is either Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe? Any pictures?
11. I was looking at it 2 weeks ago but I didn't dare ask how much it was - didn't expect that much!
12. Had a guy once telling me how good we had been. He then followed it by saying that the first band had been better - better songs, musicians and stage presence - and we should be aiming for their level. As you can probably guess, we had played two sets...
13. No - I've been to Cropredy about 18 times, but in later years when Fairport Convention came on - we went to the pub Just don't like them anymore since Allcock and Mattacks left.
14. It has to be Uptown Girl by Weezer. If you Google it you will find loads of references to it. It's even on YouTube and it tells you which album it appears on. The fact is they never recorded it- every version you hear (that is attributed to Weezer) is the one by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes.
15. Keith Richards - Expo 92!! I videoed this and watched it when I got in from the pub. My main memory is watching him do a great version of Freddie King's 'Going Down'. I was also rather taken by the bass and was pausing it to try and see what the bass was - pre-internet remember! I eventually saw that it was a Fender and decided that I wanted one. Needless to say it didn't happen
16. Just measured my 94 MIJ 62RI which is also 1.75".
17.
What was that extra guy doing singing in Madness - terrible. Maybe Suggs does not sing with them usually and the regular guy thought he should be included? I didn't like it.
I didn't see it but was it not Chas Smash? He usually sings one or two songs (if you've heard One Step Beyond you have heard him before) and has been with them since their early days.
18. Had a few bad ones over the years. One keyboard player couldn't seem to get the song intro that he was supposed to be playing. The drummer (who could play a bit of keyboards) got up and showed him. The lad then pressed a couple of buttons and asked if he could be shown again - then said he was ready. He then proceeded to press "play" and folded his arms while the part the drummer had done for him played back. The next one in had forgotten his keyboard: "I knew I was supposed to bring something!! Can I just watch instead?" Also, a drummer who played every single song in a straight beat; one on the bass - three on the snare; with no fills whatsoever although he did occasionally hit a cymbal. Said he didn't like using the toms.
19. I'm selling my Boss ODB-3 as no need of it at present. It's in decent used condition with the odd paint chip and in full working order. No box or instructions. £45 posted in UK Any questions just ask
20.
Nah, just from Tyneside and living in Sheffield. So it's a Tyneside thing if anything.
I've never heard anyone say it before - always pronounced b-ace
21. My first one was an Ibanez Blazer that I got for £120. At the time nobody I played with seemed to rate it much so I didn't think it was very good!! I upgraded it to an Ibanez Roadster which I still have although it is little used these days.
22.
I think the price is in line with other similar signature stuff the Fender CS knocks out, so have no issue there. I personally don't like the bass though. Here's a pic of him with my '52, (with a proper headstock!);
Is that not Billy Gibbons??
23. The T in Tokai is a "T" shape - I would say it's a 1984 as the logo is black. If it was an 81 the T would be like a Fender "F" - like mine!! Nice looking bass.
24. It reminds me of a Gordy Blueshift http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/gordy-custom-blueshift-hand-crafted-bass-guitar/83575626
25. Surprised nobody has mentioned bassassin's rather nice build on this forum http://basschat.co.uk/topic/100767-i-built-a-precision-and-it-went-wrong/
