Selling my Vintage Boss ROD-10, mini rack unit, made in Japan. I am unsure of it's age, I bought it used in '96. Works perfectly with no crackles or other untowards problems - I have recently had the case of and it's fine inside (I am an engineer so do this as a matter of course). Please note that it does not come with a power supply but requires an adaptor supplying 9V DC @ 50mA which isn't difficult to find. Cosmetically it has a few minor dinks etc. but looks nowhere near as bad as it does in the photographs (they always show up dirt etc. that you simply cannot see in reality). The sounds you can get out of this unit explain why it is always in demand by studios / recording artists etc. It's very rich and very flexible especially the fuzz (and to my ears at least) the distortion. Not actually tried it for this but I have been told is as good for bass as it is for other inferior stringed instruments £40 collected, £45 posted - not bad for 5 Boss pedals.

With a sign on it saying "Genuine '68 P-Bass, please feel free to try me".

Cheers guys, the Tonly Levin OLP looks the b*ll*x, I could just do with finding one to try.... I can try the Yamaha's and the Ibanez's out at a local shop to see if I can 'gel' with them - I am very fussy about finding a neck that I like (I didn't like the 4 string variants as much as a curbow).

Been playing bass now for a whopping 2 months (or so) and really enjoying it. However, most of what I play in anger are Church songs - and for these I am playing music that wasn't intended for a bass guitar so I find myself running out of depth (I know I can simply play higher up etc. but I feel it would be better if I went deeper instead of higher). With this in mind are there any sensibly priced (say less than £300) 5 stringers I should consider. Current bass is a Cort Curbow, which I really like and get along with. I also dont have the worlds longest fingers so skinnier necks should be borne in mind. I dont mind SH (in fairness I prefer it as I am getting a better deal) so what would you recommend? TIA.

So come on, what are the essential bass riffs that are almost a legal requirement to bang out when you walk into your local shop to try and sooth your gas?

What 1 question to any bass player would you ask?
Two Stoke icons: The Black Horse and Ian Kilminster Harry, are you a Potter? Mart
A clayhead born and bread. My old man grew up just up the road from the Black Horse. Nice to meet a fellow Stokey (I presume going off of the photo). -

Oi Lemmy, you still owe my dad 5 bob from the Black Horse in Hanley in 1969, have you got it? -

Love machine. Why, oh why that made it onto the set list in the first place I will never know, but it will haunt us to our graves. -
Hi Guys, Got me a Cort Curbow 4. I tried a few and they played nicely, bought one of the web (instead of paying the extra and getting one that played fine) and it's not all it could be. It's buzz heaven, so I need to get it sortd as it's driving me nuts. Any tips? The action isn't too low (I don't think it's low enough anyway). I have set plenty of guitars up, but am new to bass so thought it best to ask first. TIA.

There's hope for me yet. Phew

I bought a Crate BT-50 for under a ton, new, from sh!tecontrol. It is pretty good for a first time amp, and has enough wallop for small gigs.

My brother sprays cars for a living and has done a few guitars, he isn't a backstreet garage kind of guy and his work is absolutally first rate (he does Porsches, Mercs & BMW's etc.) I live in Leek, he lives in Stoke, so if you know what it is you need then let me know.

There doesn't seem to be any logic to what actually happens, I have imported rifle stocks on several occasions with values of several hundreds of dollars, sometimes I have to pay up to the R&C guys, sometimes I don't. I have also imported other items where I have had to pay despite the value of the item being small - go figure. Because it's Revenue & Customs there is not a lot you can do if you disagree with them (in reality) - bar stewards It really seems to be a case of go for it but be prepared to pay a fee when it lands. This is based on my experiences of the last 10 years or so that I have been shopping online, I don't know if things have changed recently.

Tokai Breezysound, kind of a metallic grey silver colour, cream edge binding to the body. It's a Jap one so tip top build quality and decent wood used etc. Fitted with a set of EMG TA active pickups - please note that these have the alnico magnets and not the inferior ceramics. Ideal for home recording (won't pick up any interference from your PC etc.) Ultra quiet but still sound nice with a good tone, don't have quite the ice pick treble attack of traditional tele pups. Also comes with a Wilkinson compensated bridge fitted. Condition is superb - the only fault I can find is a 'dink' in the top of the body, I have tried to show it in the pics but it is hard to show, the finish is unbroken. Absolute bargain price of £300 plus post - those of you in the know will appreciate the bargain that this is. I know I am a Newbie but I am happy to provide 'references' to other forums where I am fairly well established and known as a good guy to deal with (non bass). My Evil bay ID is marmatemarrow if you want to check that out as well. Hi guys, I have come to the decision from trying several basses, that skinny jazz style necks are the ones for me. As the choices are quite bewildering to a newbie can you please start suggesting a shortlist with a max budget of £300 (£350 if it's really really good). It doesn't have to look like a jazz, or sound like a jazz, it just needs that skinny jazz style neck and have a scale length no longer than 34" (can't manage a 35" - guess what I currently have - but what do you want for free and £25 worth of parts and strings). TIA.
+1 to all that. He just needs to take his foot off the gas sometimes and let the songs breathe a bit.
I take it it works the same as with guitars players then; The good players instinctively know what to play. The great players instinctively know when (and when not) to play. Not that I am dissin' flea, I am too new along the bass road to have a worthwhile opinion.
Haha, it's a familiar tale... Welcome to the low end, it's less hassle than guitar and more enjoyable!
I expect that's how it happens for quite a few guys (and gals). I did put up a fight (took me 6 months before I got around to repairing it) but now I am happy as I was always more of a riff monster than a chord player on the guitar and this suits me just fine. Struggling with the reach though between the frets but I'll se how I go before I decide I need a short scale bass (which seems to be the knee jerk reaction from everybody).

Hi all, I have just started playing bass semi voluntarily (friends need a bassplayer and I inherited and old Tanglewood rebel that needed repair) but am finding I am really enjoying it. I have been playing guitar for the last 17 years (but have been on sabbatical for the last 6) so I guess I am starting afresh (yes I really have forgotten 80% of what I knew, which wasn't much). Latterly I am the sound tech for my brothers band (Noise & Confusion) so I spend much of my time fixing equipment (The Who didn't break so much kit when they trashed the gaff), setting up live sounds and running a lighting rig. Just ordered a Crate BT50 from soundcontrol (£90 all in which seems cheap enough to me) to get me going and I'll see where it takes me. Work wise I am a design engineer in the automotive industry (Aston Martin, Bentley and Land Rover) - which sometimes can be as cool as it sounds Cheers me dears. H.
