Due to family and work commitments I don't get to play any more, and probably won't for a while so moving on my remaining gear This is the guitar I thought I'd never sell, but times change. 1994 (smack in the middle of the 'golden era' for Eggles), Patrick Eggle Berlin Stage T, 24 fret model. For those who don't know much about these guitars they were true luthier build quality instruments from Brum I think, using top quality woods & hardware. The result is a wonderful guitar, beautifully built and massively underrated (although the few that come up for sale are starting to appreciate in value), they are better than any other guitar on the planet at this used price point. Body is 1 piece Brazilian Mahogany (might be Honduran, but definitely one piece), set neck is Mahogany & Indian Rosewood, floating Wilkinson Tremelo, Sperzel locking machine heads, Seymour Duncan humbuckers with a coil tap. The tone of the instrument is similar to an SG, but with epic sustain, and it can do Fender impressions with the coil tap. The neck is fantastic, really wonderful to play and overall the guitar is lightweight and well balanced. It's been mine since new (21 years) and in that time has been gigged - a lot, this means mojo - it has it's fair share of knocks, bumps etc. but nothing serious, plenty of life left in the frets and everything works as it should (only thing to note here is the truss rod cover has one screw and the corner is broken as in the pics - but this is a piece of plastic, so no biggie to me). The guitar itself is very flexible and responds to changes in setup very well (it's been set for slide, had 14's on it during my SRV phase etc.) at the moment it has the trem locked down and a nice medium low action. Comes with a hard case, that's the same age as the guitar so a few knocks but fully functional. One luthier who set it up for me years ago described this one as a 'beautiful guitar' and if I ever sold it to give him a call (sadly can't remember who he was now - doh!). Includes the case, not really after trades but may consider a trade for a P style bass, or an Ibanez K5 (for the same reasons as this thread here http://basschat.co.uk/topic/286258-) Pics are diddy so can mail full size ones to anybody serious. Can ship (at cost) but prefer Face to Face - happy to meet up within 50 miles of B64.

Now reduced to £600, no offers at this price please. Trade value £650. I'm not looking forward to doing this but family and work mean I'm just not getting to play any more, and being realistic, I'm not going to for a while to come. So I'm selling my Marcus MIller Jazz, it's a crafted in Japan (circa 2006 according to Fender). The only modification made over standard is I fitted Fender noiseless jazz bass pickups (I'm an electrical engineer so it was done properly) - the reason for this is I was having problems with feedback on hearing aid loops (played in a few church bands), switching to the vintage noiseless (stacked humbuckers essentially) solved this problem, but didn't affect the character of this instrument too much. The originals can be included in the sale. It also comes with a fitted hard case (non Fender - which isn't a bad things as regards instrument security) which is in good used condition (has a few minor knocks but that's what a case is for isn't it?) Bass condition is very good, not mint but very very good (given it's been my sole gigging bass for some years now - probably seen off 200 gigs or so with it!), there's a small chip on the lower horn (there when I bought it) and a chip on the curve of the headstock, very light marks on the back (I usually wear long t-shirts while I play so no buckle rash to speak of). Currently strung with deep talking flats. So aside from everything you read about these great basses what can I add? Well build quality is excellent, as is the quality of hardware, but what really sets these basses apart for me is the necks - easily the best Jazz neck I've ever tried (includes Geddy Lee necks) - the neck is really quite exceptional if you like a Jazz neck, I'm not a MM fan myself but his bass is awesome. Weight is 9.5lbs - 4.3Kg, so not particularly heavy for an ash bodied bass. £600 firm, includes fitted hard case, can arrange shipping at cost (probably £25 in the UK) but would prefer face to face - happy to meet up within 50 miles of B64. I would consider a trade (I know what's been said at the top, but never say never eh?) - would be looking for a cheaper (but decent please, say £2-300 quids worth of bass with cash my way). Just noticed the pics are really diddy, so happy to e-mail larger versions of them to genuinely interested people. Picture of the pickups is shown so you can see the model - I put the originals in this box, they are not included in this sale. I did have feedback on here, but haven't needed to trade any gear for so long (yes this bass is so good it cured my GAS) that I can't find it :s

Today I played Herbie Flower's 1959 Jazz Bass
HarryPotter replied to Plux_the_Duck's topic in Bass Guitars
Herbie hasn't had a manufacturer make a Signature bass (which is a shame, can you imagine a Fender Custom Shop model with the quality of the Pino?) so I got one built. It's Lake Placid Blue but not as dark as that 59. 7.5 inch radius Rio Rosewood fingerboard. It's strung with Trubass 88s. Pickups are Fralins. The custom switch is a series/parallel switcher. I've since removed the thumbrest.
Does that make yours a prototype then? :-p -
Poll: Which Fender Jazz would you buy & why?
HarryPotter replied to OutToPlayJazz's topic in Bass Guitars
Marcus Miller IV for me. Liked it so much I bought it The neck is just perfect for me. -
Put some lavender oil on it overnight, when you wake up the blister will be gone....

Who can make me a reasonably priced jazz neck?
HarryPotter replied to richrips's topic in General Discussion
Brandoni. Google them for a number. To paraphrase top gear "Some say that they are Fender Japan parts"..... -
I tried on last week and didn't like it at all, it just felt 'wrong', may just have been that one though. It sure was perty though :-D 2 hours later somebody bought it so somebody must have liked it.

If a westone thunder suits your hands its all the bass you will ever need.
Haha I think it was the sticky tape holding up the dress, its sagging a little on the right - the dress not her ass. Tis firm indeed! Could crack a few walnuts...
More of a Denise Lewis man myself, but hey, beggars cant be choosers
Fine..I'd play the bass MM 5 and stop pretending to be Oasis. Don't get me wrong, he wrote a few classics but every band knocks them out and they can be great pub tunes but why buy a bass just to look the part.. But I'm out, as I don't get tribute bands.
Dude I wasn't having a pop, sorry if it sounded that way. But it's each to their own, I don't 'get' jazz myself . Peace
Hi there dude, congratulation on your bass, I have bought the very same bass, (actually to be precise), I have bought all 3 of the Classic Vibe ones: the Jazz, the 50's Precision and this one in the same colour as yours, officially this is Fiesta Red, but I like to call it Salmon Pink, to me that is the colour in real life despite what it looks like in pics. I agree with everything you say about playablilty, sound, neck feel and action. But I am a restless so and so, and I have carried out some minor improvement modifications to all 3 of them. Having hanged around for most of my life with between bands, music workshops and repair gurus I have come to learn that the heart of the sound in a Fender electric bass (or any copy of it) comes not only from the wood but mainly the pickups, the wiring, the pots and even the capacitors. So the first thing I do, is open the control cavity and remove the squier pots, the wires and the pickup and I use period correct vintage cloth covered waxed wirings, I use CTS original Fender replacement 250k Audio pots, an original Switchkraft 1/4" input jack socket and a Sprague Orange Drop .047mfd 100volt capacitor. This whole kit is available for sale on ebay at the link below: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WIRING-KIT-FOR-FENDE...=item5191a8db89 I have tried lots of pickups but if you really want to go for the vintage 60's sound there's none better than Seymour Duncan Vintage SPB-1 details below: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/bass...pb1_vintage_fo/ application Vintage-correct pickup that's great for country, pop, blues, and classic rock. description A faithful reproduction of Leo Fender's 1957 dual coil pickup design. Same hand-fabricated forbon bobbins. Same plain enamel wire. Same hand ground, sand-cast magnets. Same great "warm 'n woody" tone. Comes with waxed cloth hookup cable and non-logo covers.
That's interesting - I tried one of these side by side with a (good) current American Standard. I prefered the CV for feel but it was noticeable that the bass lacked definition on the E string, setup may have helped but to be honest it looked pretty good to me, also the strings didn't line up between the pole pieces properly. Did you find these problems pre mod and if so did the mods rectify this? For the money it's simply a stunning bass though.
And you can easily play an Oasis bass line after a few jars or ale.
Never a truer word was spoken .....
I'd bin the band rather than the bass, personally.
A wise man once said 'opinions are like bumholes, everybodys got one and most of them stink' 10 years ago I hated Oasis, I've warmed to them in the last few years, I used to do the sound for this (covers) band before they split up and now they've 'reformed' again. And it has to be said very few things can get a reaction out of a pub style crowd like an Oasis song going full bore, and a crowd buzzing its tits off is, to me, what giggings all about.
Guigsy had a tele bass on the good stuff.
That's a possibility, I've always loved every tele bass I've ever tried (alright it's only 2 or 3 but the signs are good).

Right guys, I've recently become a part of an Oasis tribute band (stop sniggering at the back!) and my Marcus Miller IV doesn't really fit in with the bands sound. Basically the answer seems to be obvious - a P bass (my MM is used for other bands so modifying / upgrading doesn't really seem feasible). So what I'm after are options and opinions on something that fits the following bill: P Bass style and shape 3TS finish RW neck I'd have ordered a Roadworn but the P doesn't come with a RW neck option and I doubt any Roadworn Jazz owners would want to swop their neck with the baseball bat off of the P Yes, I like the relic look - it kinda fits in with the image of the band, but equally I'm happy to let the ageing happen naturally. Price wise I'm fairly easy, say up to and including an American Standard price, so chaps what should I be considering? Used is an option but I'd need to get a big piggy bank and start saving :-P

Any idea whats wrong with my ABM Combo?
HarryPotter replied to HarryPotter's topic in Repairs and Technical
Bit of an update and a result - spoke with Ashdown, carried out all the checks they asked me to, they decided it was broken, and although out of warranty they would repair it gratis as a good will gesture, all I had to do was ship it to them. Sent it to them Thursday, they got it Friday, I got it back Today. They'd replaced the rear PCB as it was faulty (and they have, the Speakons are diff colours and the board looks different). Works fine, fingers crossed its 'fixed' for good now. Another good result for Ashdown Customer service. -
Superb, great comms and lightning fast delivery. Cheers
