Any idea whats wrong with my ABM Combo?
HarryPotter replied to HarryPotter's topic in Repairs and Technical
Well, finally got around to trying it, it's deffo the amp and not the speakers. Ran my Warwick Profet 3.2 through the speakers and it not only works fine, I'd say it has a lot more grunt that the ABM ever had (and I wasn't running it particulalry hard). Had the head out, there's nothing obviously amiss. Time to go back to Ashdown to see whats what methinks. -

Right guys, I had this up here a while ago speculating for trades but then pulled it after my ABM Combo went pop until I could figure out what was going to be needed to get up and running again So basically I'm looking to get a Bass Cab of some sort to get myself going again while I get the ABM repaired (I already have an amp head). So the specs you can get anywhere if you like Or here if you're bone idle like me Condition wise I've had it about 2.5 years, it's still boxed (and complete with UK power supply - it wasn't a grey import or anything like that) and seen less that 10 hours use. The tubes work fine (checked today) and it's in excellent condition - the signs of use are limited to a scratch underneath (it wasn't always boxed) and a small (a few mm) scratch at the corner of one edge - I can take pics if you like but you'd do well to see them if you weren't looking (the one underneath is noticeable but when it's in use you can't see the bottom, unless you play in some odd places). I don't have the original manual for the unit (I can provide a printed off copy of the online one if you wish) - I don't remember where I put it - DOH! This things built like a tank and is heavy for an fx unit (metal casing and pedals etc.) The reviews are always positive for this unit, I'm just not going back to the dark side anytime soon and it's not getting used. OK, so I'd sell for £150. I'd also post at additional cost (and I mean purely at cost, I'll even send you a copy of the receipt) to mainland UK or I'd trade against a bass cab (with cash either way as appropriate).
I've played probably about 6 or 7 now, and no, they're not particularly heavy. Sadly they have a tendancy to be good or bad IMO. When they're bad, they really suck. When they're good, they're the best jazz basses in the price range, and punch well above their weight.
Think I was lucky enough to get a good one then, the only basses I try that actually feel better than mine are in the £1000+ bracket. For me it's the neck, it's wonderful.
Skinny p - but not like a jazz. I think I know what you mean - sounds like the neck on my Scavenger, which I am guessing is going to be very similar overall to the passive Thunder 1 with just the one split coil pup. Thanks Harry.
Yep that's right mate, totally not like a Jazz. Think a shallower P and it''s about right (if memory serves) and I mean compared to a really meaty club like P
Exactly the hands on appraisal I was looking for - thanks Chris! One more question - neck width and profile - skinny or fat?
The 1A I had felt like a skinny P if that makes any sense. The only reason I parted with mine is that after playing for an hour or so it would make my wrist ache in a way that wasn't good. Aside from that - fabulous basses.

which detuner machine head fits a marcus miller?

As title basically chaps. It's for the japanese 4 string one - so its a japanese fender, with reverse geared machine heads on a 70's style neck. Looks like it could be any one of 3 or 4 on hipshots website. Any ideas? TIA -
Ashdown are talking about doing a limited run of 100 Little Bastards, hand built in the UK by Dave Green. With a £100 premium for a hand built amp, they will be first come first served, delivery in early March instead of waiting for the China made amps. expected in April. Anyone?
So is that hand built from chinese components?
Youy see a good few Trace Elliot combos about going dirt cheap. Heavy (hence the cheap) , but imo often louder than their rating.
Yeah, that's be where my money would go - on an old heavyweiht combo. Sods law says there will be none around when you want one tho.

I have a crate bt-50 I could let go cheapish, it can (just about) keep up with a quiet drummer etc. I think its a part of the ampeg group as it has the same built in tuner lol. It's not an 8x10 but its a start.
It's not a Marcus Miller neck sadly, it's just a maple Mighty Mite one. Taking it to the shop to have it fitted on Friday.
Damn, the Marcus Miller neck is simply one of the best ever (for me). I'd buy one just to build a guitar around (especially a precision). Thanks though.
