Here's another vid you might find useful. It includes footage of info from Robbie Shakespear.

Oddly it contradicts Gapiro, sorry mate.

Haha don't worry I am by no means an expert. Just my observations that feel right to me. Always open to new ideas.
How does he play eith all that bling on though ?!

2. A couple of simple reggae tips :
You play on the beat, offbeat is guitars(or whatever, but you always play on the beat). Do not get sucked into lpaying on the off beat, as it screws over the guitarists ;)
The backbeat in reggae is on the 3. Often you will hear a note on the 1, then something faster on the 3 and 4

My favourite reggae thing i've ever done, was at a jam session, a couple of guys I hadn't met before had this idea of Take 5 in 4/4 and reggae beat......(see bad quality recording at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cHaBy3_wSk&list=UUWHSVFROuxV6JdNsWtpLDpg&index=9 )

I don't think its CD or Vinyl, more a case of new techniques versus old techniques, modern music is being produced in a different way to that of yesteryear, for those who haven't seen this vid check it out, makes a lot of sense once you've watched it!

That is very good. And makes a lot of sense. I see the error of my ways!

Used to do this but drooped in the current line up as too much programming for the keys player which is a shame.
Currently doing hungry like the wolf which I find a bit trickier.
I think that this has been discussed here before; two bass parts and Duran Duran don't play it all live as per record or something.
Rio great fun to play though.

Our keys loves it because he gets to use his "arpeggiator" on it.

Hungry like the wolf has a darned wierd rhythm on the verse, good fun though!

ive just had a look and it does have a pre / post switch. so will it need to be in post, then i can alter the master volume without it effecting the sounding at front of house?
Post and Pre usually means the EQ.
If you want any EQ changes you make to affect the FOH sound, post is what you want
Pre if not.

I can't check the manual for your amp, website is blocked at work :o

7. This is currently our show ender in my 80s band.

I love the song , and hadn't even considered they were ghost notes until now , ( had the rhythm but played them fretted)
The video by zuma sounds slightly out on the octaves on the 4th phrase of the chorus. I thought it had the stuttered type rhythm there too ?

Marvin, do you go to see lots of local bands? If you want to meet musos in your area, that is often a good start, as there are usually some in the audience. Of course you need to be outgoing and willing to both start conversations and steer them over to whether folks play anything, but if that isn't something you find especially easy, you can bet it is a lot more comfortable than auditioning random ad responses can be! And buying someone a pint is an infinitely better start that sitting examining them in a rehearsal

Networking is the way forward. I met my drummer through local jam sessions and we formed a band with his old sax/keys player from their old fiction band and a mutual guitar friend. Singer was a problem but we found someone through our extensive network after about 5 months.

Really think the best thing to do is be out there either listening to music or playing at jams or generally getting involved in the community. I did go through a couple of terrible bands ( psycho country anyone. .. Naturally that involved all other members having copius amounts of drugs ) first where people invited me to auditions though.

9. Mini rant about GAS :P

We rehearse in a school music block (our drummer is in IT there and our singer a music teacher too)

Halfway through a rehearsal we go for a little break.
Wandered into another music room, and lo and behold, a Double Bass, and a couple of banjos.

Anyway, cue a country style version of Billie Jean and now I really fancy learnin to play double Bass properly. It just felt so natural in terms of fingering and play style.

Anyone else made the transition on a whim? I'ts not likely to happen yet to be honest, given the cost of a DB, and then lessons, but something for the future I reckon.

There's no excuse for that either, you know!
 :D
Me and my mates started an 80s tribute band, very very very fun stuff. Cheesey as she goes.
I just wish I hadn't got rid of my steinburger clone :( (Although I found it hard to play such a short scale bass)
