  1. It's not generative AI. Generative AI is what powers things like ChatGPT or Dalle and can be thought of as auto-complete on steroids. Whilst I don't doubt some people are using them to build recommendation engines, recommenders are traditionally using something like collaborative filtering
  2. I love my 750, great underrated head from the era of amazing TC bass gear
  3. It's a bit like Amazon's recommendation engine: "Ah I see you bought a new TV. I guess that means you like buying TVs, so now I'm only going to recommend you TVs for the next few months"
  4. The online course option really drove me forward in terms of motivation. Specifically Jaymes Bass Academy because there are monthly challenges that keep me interested and give me something to work on for the month (as well as the courses). Jayme is also reasonably active on the forum giving feedback etc.
  5. I keep meaning to come down to this, hopefully I'll drop in in the next month or so
  6. Yeah, I mean if you've ever been subjected to his videos it's clear they've been pre-recorded (not necessarily a bad thing, but it makes you start to question). When you listen to his bass playing, it's so even and note perfect, I suspect it's been recorded slowed down then sped up to the original track (I refer you to the video I posted on the previous page)
  7. As a current owner of a Sadowsky, the preamp feels special because it boosts in ways that don't feel oppressive. When I boost the treble, the bass sounds sweeter and more modern, but I don't fear it getting "brittle" or harsh. When I boost the bass it just sounds bigger, but not boomy and I don't lose any of the articulation. I just get to decide how forward in the mix I'm going to sound, and it just feels very well thought out frequency response-wise
  8. I feel like I've missed something
  9. Here's what I managed with my L2000 re: Justin Chancellor, best listened to on headphones as I tried to volume match the original bass
  10. I think @TheGhostofJaco was making a play/joke on the clickbait titles of SBLs videos, and said as much in the first line of his post:
  11. They did a video recently (ish) talking about Warwick, and despite calling the section "Warwick Thumb", they only showcased Streamers, which felt like a bit of a disservice
  12. It's also called Empress Wood. My Spector is made of it and it's absurdly light
  13. This is exactly the video I was thinking of when the discussion of plagiarism popped up. Great watch, well worth the nearly 4 hours
  14. Any pickups should be compatible, the active part is essentially just a preamp that the pickups plug/are wired into
  15. Oh was that the one with the black back panel? I did wonder why that was there
  16. I initially disliked him due to his blatant "fake" videos (e.g. he would play different parts of a song on different instruments with looping, except it was clear miming), and I noticed that most of his basslines were covers (Vincen Garcia for one). But releasing other peoples music on Spotify is just plagarism and 100% not acceptable. *EDIT* This is the video in question that made me have an instant dislike. Smug gurning over a pre-recorded track (guitar starts playing before he even gets his hands on it), not really making it clear that this is a note for note cover of Vincen Garcia etc.
  17. Glad my opinion of him is basically validated
  18. These are phenomenal bits of kit; I remember when they were must-haves for pretty much any studio
  19. The carving on that bass is stunning
  20. Psh, 32% is loads! We're not in danger until we hit single digits...
  21. True, but even as someone from Guildford, I always enjoyed popping in when down there; they always had some more obscure stuff than Andertons (i.e. Phil Jones Bass amps)
  22. That was essentially the whole deal with the original Japanese line. They were built by his protégé in Japan to stock specs, so you couldn't get a fancy top, or chambering (or other custom options), but were otherwise "off the shelf", hand built stock. I haven't tried the German Metro series (and I'm sure they are excellent too) but I do feel like they've lost a bit of the small boutique magic
  23. This is the earliest video I have if myself, about 18months into playing bass. I was 17 and obsessed with it and would regularly play/practice late into the night. I think I made more progress in those 18 months than I have in the last 18 years!
  24. I'm enjoying learning/transcribing No Way by Alain Caron:
