This is a bass I got on ebay a few months ago for a project which fell through, so strictly speaking its not a new bass day, more of a fairly new bass day ! Its a bit of a mongrel really, but I like it so much, I'm gong to keep it and mod it a little bit, tastefully of course ! The bass is all Mexican, the body pre-dates the neck by some years, its from 1998/9 if I remember rightly, the seller said that he gigged the bass for some years but then the neck got damaged and he bought a new neck from a site on ebay in the US, Stratosphere I think, and then replaced the original damaged one, but gave up gigging The body is pretty mint, all the parts are Mexican and marked as such, but the neck is the bit which has me confused It has a Mexican 2013 serial number, it has a gloss finish rather than the usual satin finish found on the Mexican guitars, and it has a vintage style spaghetti logo on the front I have casually researched other Mexican basses, but haven't seen any with the same gloss finish or logo, the nearest I found was a P bass deluxe model, but that has the word deluxe next to the Precision script Can anyone shed any light on this for me ? Assuming it's fretless? (Can't remember any fretted ebony Wals) I'd double check with Wal, but I used to do my Wal gently with 0000 wire wool, or if you have a sanding block of thr right radius, then 1000 grade wet and dry, again, lightly, just enough to clean the surface up. Oil if you wish, but I don't bother on my current fretless Lucky man, look after it! Harry

A number of years ago I used to live in Findon, West Sussex, and every year I'd go to the Festival of Speed at Goodwood. One year I was there with a mate, in the paddock which is open to everyone to mingle with drivers, celebrities and priceless cars, unlike just about every other racing event you could mention, and I was on a mission to get a good look at Nick Mason's Ferrari 250 GTO I noticed there were only two blokes around it and so we made a bee-line straight for it, one of the two blokes was stooped over, looking into the car, oblivious to everything around him, and as I zoomed in on the car, he stood up and I literally bumped into George Harrison. We both apologised at the same time, me automatically saying " Really sorry George" then immediately turning to the car, not really registering fully who he was, he just grinned and said "It's beautiful isn't it?" and sauntered off, it took a few seconds before I said to my mate "That was George Harrison", my mate, not much of a music buff said " Yeah, but this is a 250GTO"
