1. I owned a 1212R, and used it with both a markbass LM2 and a Gallien Krueger 1001RBII. Out of those two I would definitely recommend the GK. The LM2 was very warm (even with the biting tone of the 1212) but the GK gave a great growl and slapping through it sounded fantastic!
2. Its amazing how common these are (relatively speaking) but how few you see for sale. I think that says something! Good luck pentode, If I had the dough, Oh if!
3.
Actually, this might be useful to keep hold of. Hence withdrawn
If there was a prize for the most amount of for sale threads that end up withdrawn! How deep are these just out of interest Clarky? They look massive on photos?
4. You're awful max! Although I have to say that new Les Paul you've got looks like it would suit something a bit, Meatier?
5.
IMO no, because if you haven't heard a 15/6 or 15/8 you don't know what you're missing. As 15/6 and 15/8, and for that matter 12/6 and 12/8, are still primarily the domain of DIY and custom builds few players are aware of how well they work. Most who do have them also tweeter equipped find that they prefer the tone with the tweeters turned off; those who don't have tweeters for the most part don't miss them.
and where would something like a Trace Elliot Bright Box come into the mix? Sorry, I quite enjoy picking your brains! ^_^
6.
Tweeters and fifteens result in a response hole over an octave wide between where the woofer stops and the tweeter begins, and that's on-axis. Off-axis the gap is closer to two octaves, and it's those two octaves that are most critical to tone. Fully two thirds of the tweeter frequency range is above where it offers any benefit with bass. For that matter tweeters and tens or twelves aren't all that good a match either, unless said tweeters operate down to at least 2kHz, and few do. That doesn't say that tweeters bring nothing to the table, but mid drivers bring much more. The primary reason why tweeters are offered instead of midrange drivers is cost.
From a bassists point of view Bill, Could it be said that tweeters could be "enough" to add sparkle to slap pieces if your happy with the overall tone of say a single 15?
7.
What are they worth?
£50 for the pair and I'll take them both! ^_^ if your not sure ask in the Bass Guitar section, There will be a lot of people in there with more knowledge than I!
8. Hi Wally, Unfortunately its forum policy to list a price for anything your selling, could you please put an amount on the hohner and Egypt? I'm sorry its under such circumstances you find yourself here
9. Ive never played a Quiet one! I dont know how linear their volume pots are but Ive never had to push them to get a good stage volume.
10. I had one of these as my first "real" bass. Chuffing loved it I did. Those Wenge necks are beautiful.
11.
oh dear.. round and round we go. It doesn't matter how it works, it matter how it sounds to you, and it helps if that person has half a brain or a clue. Use your ears. If it works, you buy it..if it doesn't, you wont. The rest is highly amusing. Leave the science to the people who have to justify it to sell their product..they'll enjoy that, I'll use my ears, I think they are good enough. Nobody is going to buy a cab because it reads well on paper unless the sound to their ears backs it up..... or nobody in their right mind. Sometimes you wonder though..
Everyone has different experiences though. Untill recently the only 410's I'd heard where Warwick and Peavey, I thought both sounded appauling! However, It would be silly for me to say I dont like 410 cabs based on that. Have the people who are saying 15's are slow heard many reasonable quility 2x15 cabs I wonder?
12. I'd be really interested to see (no pun intended) a blind test on a load of different speaker sizes/configurations and see what happens - just to put this argument about "slow" speakers etc to rest!
13.
I would not worry about missing a beat when you have a track called Rimmer..!! Having a listen at the moment. Garry
We're rubbish at naming songs, Im pretty sure it wont be called Rimmer in its final incarnation
14. Just wanted to get a few first impressions on this one off all your critical ears! Its the first take, we wrote the entire song on the day - Our lead singer seems to think we're The Beatles or something. Im quite chuffed with how its turned out! The bass on this one was recorded via line out on my trace twin valve and a mic on my Mesa Walkabout Scout Cab. P.S, Im aware I miss a beat going into the guitar harmony section!
15. I'm lucky, I managed to get my MIM 70's "classic" series for the same price as one of these, and with blocks and binding that seems much better value. However they also have upgraded bridges and more colour options. Generally speaking QC seems to be much better than in years gone past aswell.
16. SlyStewart, You've posted this thread at a bad time! You may well find a lot of useless responses follow this but there is a list of amp techs stickied at the top of this forum, Give one of them a call and get them to look it over, it might cost you but I wouldnt tinker around with a valve amp unless you really know what your doing. Anyway, back to the obvious reply - I dont think you can fix and SVT2, they fix you. Edit - Its stickied in the repairs section, here http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=198
17. Chris, I have some of the Grado SR80's as suggested above. If you want me to send them over so you can give them a whirl just let me know.
18. find yourself a trace twin valve! It cant weigh more than 10kg (although im yet to weigh it) and it sounds suberp.
19.
Cheers mate, re cans for mixing, I think it's another reference point really, especially given how much music is listened to via that media these days. Might be wrong for sure, I know the old conventional wisdom was 'never mix on cans', but I don't think there's any harm in referencing what you've done on them. C
I think I'd just be worried about tripping myself up on too many mixing mediums. I dont think I'd be happy with something that sounded great through the monitors and not through cans, Im sure you could get a mix like that to sound great on both but you'd have to have the patience of, well, a studio engineer! Here's hoping!
20. Its such a shame... Really! Barefaced Vintages and Valves work a right treat, There are at least 4 of us on here using this formula. Trust!
21. the Sennheisers you have should be fine for tracking. But thats about as much as I know on the matter! If you have 2 sets of monitor speakers, do you need headphones for mixing? (Open question, I dont know the answer myself!)
22. Maybe markbass little mark 250? you might be able to find a little mark 2 for a little over £300 if you look super carefully! From my experience they do precisions a good bit of justice considering they dont use valves.
