1. Hang on, Have people missed my post where i said this post was massivly useful to me?! No Its not going to be useful on a one cab "shall i buy this" solution, But even through a camera mic, Through whatever speakers, there is a comparison in tone between all four cabs. And i managed to work out that the Fender has more mids, The bergs have the Sizzle, The Aggies have a very smooth sound. All this i would not have kown if i hadnt had personal experiances. Jeeze.
2. If you could find a Little Giant, then maybe a second hand Hartke 2.5XL cab, or two! You might find that although together they wont be much lighter, being more modular might make the world of difference and the Hartke cabs get great write ups.
3. I have to fight Papa Roach's side here. I still have a massive soft spot for this sort of melodic aggressive soft metal. I dont know what it is, i think, well, I think it has groove?
4. If Alex Claber and Bill FitzM met do you think they'd create some sort of sonic boom?
5.
Why can't I do that?
Try doing that on an EUB, Laughs will ensue!
6.
Ste, I have a feeling you'll love the Vintage. What amp are you using?
Shuttle 6
7. You see to me, That was a VERY useful video, Thanks! The tone you got from that sadowsky is exactly the tone im aiming for (and getting) a lot of the time at the moment, And the Bergs are what i would have shot for if i was in a funky band. But< im doing blues and rock and roll, After talking to Alex for a bit we decided that the slight roll off on the highs of the vintage (Or lack of any peaks up that end) would stop it sounding like i was building a shed at the same time. If your telling me that the vintage can do both, then well, I'm going to be a happy bunny! Thanks so much for that!
8. I gigged outdoors last weekend with an ashdown after 8 combo and a guitar cab plugged into the ext out with a lead that looked like it had been made out of the remnents of an 80's matsui hi-fi... And, it wasnt mic'd or DI'd. When i questioned this i got the reply "Bass aint directional mate, you'll be fine". Ignorance would have been bliss.
9. In three years of gigging i have to say, Its been VERY rare that ive not had at least petrol covered. Who's talking to the promotors?
10. Ive been there Josh, i didnt get quite as high up the scale as you (Bongo, Bacchus and Lakland where my "high enders") And all i can say is dont fear! Whenever i got a new bass i'd sit down and fettle and toy with pre-amps and new strings and all sorts. however, I got into a band i simply enjoy playing music with. This changed everything! I bought a mexican 75RI Jazz because it felt lovely. I had a grand to play with but this 450 quid beauty was it for me. The big deal for me now is that i can turn up to a gig and plug into any old piece of crap and i'll enjoy playing. Cos it feels nice and because i enjoy the music! For recording I knock the action a bit higher to round off my tone and thats about that. So i suppose what im asking is what are you doing playing bass? I dont even nearly want to put you off, but are you just sitting at home playing runs and getting frustrated that you "dont have that sizzle at 1.3k" or something? If you couldnt hear yourself on stage or couldnt get your bass to sit in a mix i'd understand, but it seems your getting frustrated over what is essentially tiny things, maybe its time for a break? I couldnt ever imagine having a bass to play to myself all the time, let alone a 3 grand one! If your happy doing this then fair play to you, but more food for thought i guess!
11. Alternativly shoot them an e-mail and ask! Ive found Elixer to always be very accomodating with enquiries.
12. depends where the heating vents are on the amp tbh. Ive seen plenty of 2u amps in 2u racks and theyve not overheated or anything. Plus arnt rack tuners fairly shallow? So they wouldnt take up much "breathing space" anyway. Get a 3u and shove thecables in the back!
13. Eugh, Well, Aside from meeting my old man for the first time on saturday night, the gig went really well. Bar the other band... The Lead singer and guitarist for these guys desided that THREE fender de-villes was utterly undisputable for a room that was about 15x50! very deep narrow stage and he wasnt mic'd up at all so it really was just a wall of (very painful) noise. And the bassist, Oh my lord. I've quite a lot of patience for bassists that dont know all that, i realise that although this is a massive forum those of us that are even slightly technically minded are still well and truly in the minority. However, he had a Roland Rig of sorts, Big 15" combo with a 15" powered extension. I saw this and thought oh, this guy knows what he's doing! alas, he was running a big muff on full tilt, into an SS pre with the gain on full and the bass and mids, yup, you guessed it, on full! between their guitarist, the bassist himself and the soundguy they couldnt work out why the DI was so hot! They even had an interesting conversation about weather or not his bass was "one of them double pickup" models. So alas, eventually i went over to politely make a few pointers, And was swiftly accused of taking away from "his sound" so i left it at that. By some crazy coincidence the signal was fine and actually sounded very nice when i was playing. We where on before these guys so i thought it only polite for me to put everything back exactly as i found it
14. Sorry all, been meaning to update this. The Mic and Monitors went locally. Only have the Interface left Will be eBaying soon so im looking for £90 + p&p
15. Might be making this up, But im sure i read somewhere that he winds his own pickups?
16.
Not this one is it? http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=54442 Tried a very similar one to this (was natural with a lined body) and it was very good, although i don't think the shop knew what a setup meant The £45 aria i've just bought off eBay is sweet as a nut too
That the one in tower music? I saw it today, looked nice but i could limbo under the strings...
17. I'd want it to come with James Jamerson for that price.
18. we've had three or four gigs cancelled in pubs recently, but all have said its down to the economic climate. Im not sure wh ythat matters as we'd be bringing punters in, weather or not they want to risk crediting the PA and sound guys or not like, i dont know!
19. Ooft, Make that into a single coil, then add another at the bridge, the offset the body, maybe put the controls onto a chrome plate and make the neck playable and you'd have one hell of a bass! Hehe, Im kidding, Im slowly beggining to feel like a P might suit my live tone better, but i just cant bring myself to do it!
20. I cant speak for the other guys, But i find im much more in control of my picking hand that high up. I cant pull off the mutes as well with it low!
21. Well, Its a chance for you to see me in all my glory! Or, possibly, see me at a time before i realised drinking a bottle of Jager before going on stage wasnt such a great idea... I live and learn? It gets a bit cringy towards the end when we do the rock and roll speedy up bit. It sounded good on stage but looking back, perhaps not so much! Nice to see what you think about the rest though! Horrible bass tone. Just DI'd. I'll stop making excuses now. The Locals at T
22. I've found having a very formal, to the point bio with a good section regarding media and gigs is great, But a Tailored - Maybe even hand written intro note goes down very well. Be a little cheeky. I even once sent out a pack with a post-it on the front. The company put our pack through to the bosses because i'd written something along the lines of "I dare you to listen to the CD before you decide we're all ugly as w**k and put us on the 'no chance' pile" Winking smiley and all!
23. Sort of a weird one. We have a manager that sorts all the gigs and that but i find myself naturally running the band on a more day to day basis, making sure everyone knows where and when theyve gotta be places, If they're claiming for any gear etc. Ive only been with these guys about 2 months, maybe a should stop
