1.
I just got home from work, had a play with it for 15 mins. I think I have achieved perfection. I had it Bi-amped lows into the 15" and full range into the 4 X 10" ( I should have put the 15" underneath but I was on y own and couldn't be arsed to lift it). It is SO clean and so punchy, can't see me needing another amp for a long while. Here's another crappy phone pic, it's not racked yet but will be on the weekend.
Be interested to see what you think about the differnce it makes being bi amplified and un-biamplified if you get the chance to fiddle!
2. Okay, not long now, bump!
Wow that is a shock. I remember some great posts of his. I'd like to celebrate that he shone so brightly. Peter
I hope you dont mind me echoing these sentiments exactly Peter! Very sad news.
4. this is one of the reasons i love using my Jazz now opposed to all the fancy stuff ive had in the past, I can be well rock and roll with it knowing itll be fine!
5. I gas over Ass gear two. Maybe we need a sub forum?
6. Ive sent a bass abroad through the forums before. No hassle whatsoever. Make sure you phone your bank to check the money has fully cleared before you proceed though! I'm sure i heard some story about how theres a period after youve been given a cheque/transfer where you can "see" the money but its not fully over yet and can still bounce?* *I might be lying, or have dreampt it. but im sure i heard it, really, i am!
7. I think whats easily forgotton is that most of the players we've mentioned so far are also a part of bigger and invariably more "listenable" projects. I wouldnt be surprised if all the bass gymnasts started off with their solo bits purely as a bit of a home hobby and then some people have seen and gone "wow, you really got something there!". So in summery, IMO it is a little futile for all the reasons above, but its not like the players are wasting themselves, moreover just enjoying themselves!
8.
Crazy money,
If this where the standard SVT810 I'd agree, But its so much more!
9. I found a set of DR sunbeams that i bought ages ago lying around the other day so decided to put them on my Jazz, Gotta say they sounded good but ive had one practice and one gig and they seem to have lost their shine already. I'll be sticking to D'addarios and Elixers thanks!
10. Just to throw another angle in, If its not a specialized music school and theyre just taking lessons on the side, There's a fair chance they've gone in, turned their nose up at the theory and technique side and said "i want to play like Flea!". Unlikely being in a jazz band, but food for thought.
11. I'd shoot for the Villex passive stuff myself
12.
the first thing you need to know is why James Jamerson played like he did, and once you figure that out there's really not much else worth learning.
To be quite honest, I think that in itself could take a lifetime of practice! Not as easy to most as it seems!
13. Yeah, we should give up 99 times out of 100, but for that one gig where the PA is massive, the crowd is pumping, the choons be flowing. Thats worth it for me!
14. I think i speak for a majority when i say; Phwoar.
15.
I just noticed EBS classic line 4x10, 1000 watt cabs now available for £559 at the Gallery, anyone had any experience of the Classic cabs? Cheers Tony
I think JakeTenFloors would be able to give a decent review of these, if he doesnt pop up i'd shoot him a PM
16. Oh, and if you have a decent spec PC just download and give reaper a whirl before you spend too much on a mac, might quench your thirst without draining your wallet
17. I did this Al, when the band went tits up bought a load of home studio gear to keep me entertained - and it did! Incidently, Im now selling all of that on again to fund the new band, but it really is great fun!
18. Are any of you scottish chatters attending? Theres a festival pint in it! (About £30 innit?) We're playing the BBC introducing stage on the saturday. get on it
19.
But only if you were using square speakers. For some reason, the number 3.1416 keeps flashing across my brain ...
Im glad these guys have put that to bed, It was playing on my mind also but i didnt want to say...! Mr Claber would have pointed it out by now
20.
Also, is there any way of displaying more than about 20/25 posts per page? I guess most people are on broadband now so 50 or even 100 wouldn't really cause a connection issue. Cheers P
If your using firefox you can download an app called AutoPager Which will automatically load up the next page on most websites - so you can continously scroll down and it will show the next pages content. Very useful!
21. I've played this bass, its *insert suitable explecitive here* brilliant
22. Barefaced Bass! Save yourself a good 30 years of chronic back pain, and some pennies too!
23. definately another "stick with it" from me Al, The sorry truth is that as bass players, generally speaking we're not much without a band. I dont know about you but i can pick up my bass in my room for about 10 minutes before i get bored and put it down again. Give me a drummer i can go for hours, Give me a well arranged band and im out for weeks! I'd stop looking for bands that are going places and find a few guys that are playing that crappy little hole of a place - but playing music you like. You'll progress further and faster this way, you can trust me on that one! Best of luck withit Al, And if you need someone to babysit any of your gear while you reflect, let me know!
24.
For under £100 perhaps try the Tannoy F1 Custom from Richer Sounds (£90). Apparently, and I say that as I haven't had the chance to judge myself, according to the SOS forum there is little to distinguish entry level hi-fi and monitors. I am after a nice pair of speakers to reproduce the sound I get when I practice through headphones using guitar rig, so many choices I haven't a clue what to go for!
Ive also heard the JBL one series are good for monitoring in a simlar vein.
25.
No I don't think so, I've been using D'Addarios for years - phosphor bronze on my Acoustic, lots and lots of sets of XLs for electric guitar and a set of half rounds on my Precision - never had a problem with a set until I tried these banjo strings and had no further problems with the replacement set. I had a set of Rotosound flats, one broke out of the pack and another was dead - again the only problem I've had with Rotos, but issue sorted quckly by Rotosound and was very happy - wouldn't stop me buying either Rotosound or D'Addarios in future
The fact i can deaden a pair of rotos in two gigs stops me buying any in the future, but i feel thats for a seperate thread ^_^
