  1. DR Hi Beams all the way!
  2. Great experience... Pierre is a gent, answers emails or FB messages almost immediately... he threw in a really nice Maruszczyk padded leather strap and two sets of new strings (one flats) for me as part of the deal... packing and shipping were first class... he is also affiliated to Bass Direct Japan if you fancy some of their basses... genuinely highly recommended 🙂
  3. Have this little beauty for a few months now so time to post a pic or two... I wanted a light weight Precision due to having alot of shoulder and neck pain recently and I found this nice demo at the Bass Freaks online store with a good discount... its only 3.1kg (6.8lbs) so feels like wearing fresh air... simple passive no frills P bass with Delano pickup... sounds great, plenty of bite and bark but can do old school really well too with flats... I've become the regular bassist for a busy blues band and this is the perfect bass for the job... its so light and comfortable to play that I'm finding myself grabbing it now for all my other gigs as well (pop & rock covers mostly)... overall I'm very impressed with this lovely instrument, I never thought I'd buy a red bass but I must admit its really grown on me 🙂
  4. Lots of interest in this beauty but still here...
  5. Barefaced Supercompact with a Quilter BB800 head does the job for me on a variety of different gigs with different basses and without PA support, I'm thinking particularly of a pretty loud blues/rock band I play with occasionally where I thought the one cab would struggle but it handles it effortlessly... The SC is just 10kg but it feels even lighter... I'm really pleased with this rig!
  6. +1 on the BB800... mucho punchy!!
  7. One of these might solve a problem for me too... thanks for sharing mate
  8. I am selling my beautiful CHB-1 semi hollow short scale bass, absolutely stunning looker and plays like a dream too.. Bought on this forum about a year ago with plans to use in a 50's band that never happened in the end so the bass rarely gets played.. All the technical info you need is here on the Chowny website: http://chownybass.com/product/chb-1-2018/ the weight is only 3.1kg (6.8lbs) making it extremely light and comfortable to play.. Chowny have confirmed that this is a unique one off colour which makes it it quite rare.. honestly its even nicer in the flesh! The bass comes with a lovely vintage cream custom fitted case by Gator, top quality... This little video shows the huge rang of tones you can get from these basses.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=houaxTxFCiQ its not me playing by the way... wish I had his chops though!! A new CHB-1 will set you back £500 these days and this one is absolutely mint, like new, so grab a bargain! I am located in Eire but shipping to the UK or EU is no problem... Thanks for looking...
  9. One cab now sold...
  10. I put a set of GHS Crossovers on my CR4M a few months back but for various reasons I haven't been playing the bass much since.. first thoughts.. compared to the stock D'addario's they seem to have more depth and punch to them and the bass sounds a bit more upright'ish which is a plus.. mine still feel a bit tacky to the touch and I agree that they are not nearly as smooth as the original strings which are basically just a flatwound... the one big difference is the lack of sustain compared to the D'addario's which I had gotten used to and came to really like, especially on the G string, the mwah factor is nowhere near as pronounced.. I understood from the description of the Crossovers that I should expect this but there is quite a dramatic difference... so the jury is still out for now, I have some upright gigs coming up so we'll see how they feel with a bit more gigging time on them.. the 10 year old D'addario's may go back on yet!
  11. I am selling a pair of Phil Jones Bass C4 Compact bass cabs. These are fantastic cabs, great punch and volume for their tiny size and weight. (13kg) Rated at 400w @ 8ohms, loaded with 4x5 inch Piranha custom drivers. The cabs have had very little gigging time and come with fitted covers, original boxes and packaging. No issues, only 6 months old.. As per the pics one cab has black cones, the other silver... obviously PJB decided silver was prettier but they sound identical to my ears! In terms of presence on a gig think in terms of a good quality 1x12 but with alot more definition. Dont let the 5" drivers fool you, these cabs pump out lots of deep powerful bass. Genuine reason for sale... Happy to split... Price is per single cab... I am based in Ireland. For shipping to a UK address add £20 per cab... other EU will cost slightly more... thanks for looking.
  12. great amps... I love mine
  13. I'd like to echo all of the above, just sold a bass to Zbynek and it worked very well, good communication and prompt payment... highly recommend
  14. Bump for price reduction... now £550
  15. Yes it was manufactured in Japan in1974 so it is 44 years old, sorry if some of the previous comments are a bit confusing, during the mid 70's the Japanese manufactured a variety of 'copy' basses mostly based on Fender or Gibson type designs and legal action ensued eventually which is why that period is often referred to as the 'law suit' era... opinions vary on this subject which led to some of the previous comments... the bass is in lovely condition, has all the tone and feel of a good 70's Fender Jazz and it has aged beautifully.. I hope that clears it up a bit.. if you have any other questions feel free to ask...
  16. Very interesting thread. We have just dissolved a band where I owned half the PA, conventional powered EV tops etc... the old rig has now been sold and I am looking at buying something neat and tidy of my own mostly to use with a little 3 pce pub covers band, bass, drums, electric guitar and 2x vocals... most of the places we play are small so we dont need a big loud rig, the drums wont be mic'd and the bass and electric guitar will just use their own amps so the PA is really just for vocals and occasionally an acoustic guitar... The whole line array/column thing looks very appealing... I've lost count of the number of times punters (drunk and sober) have tripped over the normal PA stands and almost landed in on top of us! I sometimes dep with a band who use the RCF EVOX 8 system mentioned earlier, its a fairly loud 4 pce and the EVOX 8 works brilliantly but its not cheap and the bin weighs over 20kg... I'm looking for something much lighter and cheaper to be honest... years of lifting heavy PA cabs onto poles has taken its toll on my 52 year old back so the lighter the better these days... there is no shortage of stuff available but its hard to strike a balance between the specs of the unit and the price... in my trawling I came across this unit by ANT who are a fairly new kid on the block but when I checked them out they are part of the larger RCF group which is a positive because I like RCF stuff... https://www.thomann.de/ie/ant_b_twig_8.htm I like the price and the weight and the specs seem pretty decent... its 500w RMS which is a bit more than most of the other column systems in that price range so it might just keep up with the drums, hard to know how it would perform without trying it I suppose but I was wondering if anyone else on here has used this unit or something very similar with a drummer and managed to get by?
  17. Agreed... made me finally get off the pot and order a Super Compact
  18. No worries mate, its all interesting history anyway
