1. Obviously I've been misinformed... thanks for the education I will remove the offending wording
2. If anyone is looking for the tone and feel of a vintage 74 Fender Jazz bass but is not prepared to shell out a few grand for one, this bass might be just the ticket.. This is a 1974 Fernandes Burny Bass which was made in Japan as a pretty direct copy of a Fender Jazz. I bought this one from Danny Stewart at Bass Japan Direct a few months back and it is a cracking bass. As far as he could tell the bass is original apart from the addition of a battery compartment from a previous owners flurry at making it active... the bass is totally passive now however and sounds just like what you would want from a 70's Jazz bass... phat and funky!! The body is Japanese ash with a maple neck and the fingerboard is bound maple with pearl block inlays... the frets still have plenty of life left in them. The body has a brown Mocha gloss finish that has aged to look almost like walnut, its a very cool colour in the flesh. The pickguard was originally white but Danny covered it with a dark walnut veneer which really suits the vibe of the bass. Speaking of vibe this bass has tons of it, both pickups are super punchy and tonally it barks every bit as good as (if not better than) any original 70's Fender Jazz basses I've played. Weight is a very manageable 4.1kg on my luggage scales. The bass arrived from Tokyo in a cool vintage faux leather gigbag inside a cardboard shipping box with lots of packaging and I still have all of those for re-shipping if required. The bass is located in Ireland but shipping to the UK or Europe is no problem. Please PM with any questions.. Price drop now £550
3. Lovely bass and a bargain at that price! If I didn't already own a Lakland Jazz I'd have snapped this up ages ago!
4. I agree 100%.. A Jazz or even a Stingray can be a bit more versatile for noodling on etc but as part of a band or on a recording stick a P bass in and it just works so well! Theres a reason producers and sound men love 'em
5. Anyone tried both and know the answer? Thinking about tone rather than volume...
6. Ditto
7. Wow small world... is yours a Series 2 as well?
8. Selling my beautiful Status Series 2 neck through graphite 4 string. Serial number 483 dates it to 1987. I am the second owner and I have owned the bass for the last 20 years. The body has a mahogany back with a highly figured maple top. Everything is original and it is in almost mint condition for a 30 year old bass. The original custom Status flightcase is included and it is extremely well made and in perfect condition. The bass plays like a dream with ultra low action and I have just strung it with a fresh set of Status strings. Weight is exactly 4kg so really comfy and perfectly balanced. No issues whatsoever with this beauty, you will be hard pressed to find a nicer example. Little bit of Level 42 history as well as this bass was used on loan by Mark King for a few gigs while he was having work done on his own Series 2 at the time... I believe he left a little bit of his Mojo on this one too! I'm afraid I have nothing to verify this story so you'll just have to take my word but it is quite true. I hate selling this one but I need to fund an expensive recent impulse purchase and the Series 2 hasn't been getting the love it deserves for a few years now... I am based in Ireland but happy to ship internationally as the flightcase is built like a tank. Prefer a straight sale but I might consider a Barefaced Super Compact or BB2 cab in part exchange. Happy to answer any questions by PM...
9. Great little class D head, tons of warm and punchy tone and gobs of power as anyone who owns one will attest to... not getting used since I changed over to Phil Jones gear so its better with someone who will make use of it.. big thread about these over on Talkbass : https://www.talkbass.com/threads/nad-the-best-amp-ive-ever-heard-kustom-kxb500.1094234/ Fits in a laptop bag which is what I've been using and can include if required.. lovely condition.. UK or European shipping will be about £20.
10. Great info Frank cheers... I'll have to get ye a gig in Strandhill and you can bring them all down with you Dave
11. Thats a good endorsement mate... I might be interested if you decide to sell the second one... drop me a PM any time
12. I like the sound of that... and the smaller Super Compact is able to cope with the gigs where you used both Compact and Midget together?
13. Anyone had or tried both? apart from physical size is there much difference tonally?
14. Thats a beaut!
15. Showing my age here but for me the album that really got me listening to the bass was Level 42's debut and self titled album from 1981... still love it after all these years... followed closely by New Gold Dream by Simple Minds in 1982, great tone and playing by Derek Forbes and more importantly most of the lines were simple enough to play along with for a young newbie at the time... I could go on all day but finally I think I need to mention Tin Drum by Japan from 1981... Mick Karn weaving and diving on the Wal fretless... enough said!!
16. The NS design CR4M is a great bass... I have an older one that I imported from the US many years ago.. I almost sold it on here a few times as the vast majority of my gigs were bass guitar and it seemed a shame not to be using it but in the end I couldn't get myself to part with it... tonally (mine still wears the original stock d'addario flatwound strings which many players seem to change out) its really hard to make it sound bad and you can achieve a very tasty warm and punchy tone which though not an acoustic upright, to my ears is still far more DB than fretless electric unless you are using only the EMG's and purposely set the EQ to make it sound like a fretless.. the action is very easy to adjust and I keep mine fairly low because its just so comfortable to play... I pulled my CR4M out of the cobwebs recently to use on a recording and the engineer and all the other musicians absolutely loved the tone which was rich and creamy and just fitted the vibe of the song perfectly... I have both the tripod stand and the end pin and to be honest I'm not mad on either for a standing up gig so I found the most comfortable set up for me is the bass on the tripod but me sitting on a stool about 24 inches tall... I can get nice and comfortable in that position and really enjoy the bass... I'm very glad I didn't sell it now and I have since picked up a regular trad Irish/ folk gig which I'm getting to use the bass on and it always gets compliments on both the cool look and the rich tone...
17.
This.
Yeah the briefcase is lovely but too large and heavy (almost 13kg) to take on board a plane as cabin baggage which is ideally what I would like to be able to do... a bit of poking about and I discovered that the PJB Double 4 takes a DC input and can be powered up with a laptop battery... unfortunately has to be 18-20v so normal 12v batteries are no good but it looks closest to what I am describing and only weighs 4kg which makes it cabin friendly too... bit pricey but might be worth it... anyone got any experience of using the Double 4 in an unplugged session?
18. Bit of a tall order I know but I play bass (electric) regularly with a bunch of trad Irish musicians and occasionally we get to play abroad where most of the fun can be had during down time in local pubs, street busking or in hotel lobbies etc. In those situations a small battery powered combo would be very handy and allow me to join in the fun... I actually did own a little Roland micro cube 5w combo some time ago but found it woefully underpowered in a busy loud pub environment or even in quieter rooms when the accordian and fiddles etc stated to crank up... so I'm looking for something with a bit more grunt but that is still small and light enough to carry on board an aircraft and sounds reasonably OK... any suggestions welcome
19. Totally hassle free purchase, great comms from the beginning, posted pedal that same day, arrived in mint condition, extremely happy overall... highly recommended
20. just spotted this quote on the Barefaced FB page... might make the 210 more appealing to some people ... 'We've bloody done it! Switchable impedance Two10. 4 ohm when you're using it on its own, 12 ohm when you want to make a stack. Just flick the toggle switch on the back' !
21. Top is a bit scratched but he pedal works perfectly, great auto wah / envelope filter for lots of funky bass vibes!! These are 100 euro new so grab a bargain!! Boxed...
22. I'd leave it alone with its current mojo... whoever requested that colour must have been fairly patriotic tho
