1. Really nice amp heads... Has anyone reading this tried out any of the Handbox cabs or combos yet?
2. Paul S Denman Sades bassist had some great lines... lovely pre-ernie Stingray too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8W0ZWXq6kxE
3.
They've just uploaded a vid of a shortscale Elwood...
That short scale sounds glorious, of course Adrian is a wonderful player which doesnt hurt ... The stock pickups sound great to me, can any Maruszczyk owners tell me if tonally is there much difference between those and the Delanos or Haeussel pickups in a live gig situation? (hard to tell from the video clips)... very tempted to order one of these to be honest
4. I recently bought a pair of used Eden EX112 8ohm cabs and unfortunately one of the cabs arrived with a damaged speaker so I need to replace it. The original Eden speakers are the 'wizzer' type and are quite toppy to allow for the lack of a tweeter in the really small box.. playing the working cab I feel there is enough top in that already that I dont particularly need a second wizzer type so I'm looking for a decent regular 12" driver rated at least 300w, it doesnt have to be any particular brand just something someone has bought and is happy with the sound of... I dont really want to spend too much on it if possible so it doesnt have to be really high end... any suggestions much appreciated and a link to where you got it would be great..
5.
+1 I love 8x10 cabs but know from experience what a pain in the arse they can be. I suppose my journey has been about finding that sound and power in a practical package (regardless of speaker size) and I think I'm close to it.
I agree a good stack of 10s is hard to beat for tone and punch but too impractical for most of us to even consider... I think 12s are so popular nowadays because they are that in-between speaker size that seems to cover alot of ground gig wise for the average gigging bassist who uses his own family saloon or hatchback to get to gigs... many 2x10 cabs (but not all) tend to fall just that bit short of covering louder gigs whereas a 2x12 will probably get you there most of the time... a 4x10 will probably equal or out-gun a 2x12 but its usually bigger and heavier and we have become obsessed with lightweight and smaller cabs in recent years... same goes for other drivers like 5s and 8s etc, you need quite alot of them to shift the same amount of air as a couple of decent 12s so size and weight again becomes an issue.. 15s are generally bigger and heavier and have become a bit uncool lately too so the 12 will remain king of the bass speakers for the time being at least (IMO)
6. I had one of these too and loved the tone but only ever played it through a tiny GK 12MBX extension cab for really small gigs.. I ended up selling it when I bought a TC rig (which is now gone too ) and missed it almost immediately... Has anyone compared one of these alongside an MB500 in terms of the ability to move air on a loudish gig with decent cab (s)?... from what Mark says above when he tried his MB200 with his bigger cabs is sounds like there might not be a huge amount in it?
7. What is the difference between the Classic and the RH450? Tonally are they similar sounding heads? cheers Dave
8. Well one of the 23 made it to Sligo My main bass for most of my electric gigs, seriously great instrument in every way, sweet neck and action and the combination of Fralins and the East pre gives huge tonal range... to be honest the passive setting is so nice I rarely use the pre-amp... I'd nearly buy a second just to have it...
9.
Played through the K212 whist I was auditioning my Bongo 6. Loud, clear, really to my liking! Much clearer than the RH cabs of which I'm not really a fan. The Ks have a much more hi-fi neutral sound. I'd say go for them! Unless you can go Barefaced... Bare in mind this was only half an hour's experience with the K cab so I wouldn't take everything I've said as gospel, but I certainly remember being impressed.
I did have a TC rig before, RH450 head and RS210 cab and I really liked it... I really regret selling it in fact Barefaced cabs are the bomb alright but any of his 12's are pricey compared to the TC... in fact even the cheapest Barefaced single 12 (Midget) is double the price of a K212... the joys of living in Euro land... I'm exploring a few different options at the moment and I have a limited budget but the TC K212 ticks quite a few boxes
10. Either the 210 or 212... very tempted by the price but cant find many reviews yet
11. Does this come with the little transport trolley?
12.
BTW, I was in the Strand Bar a couple of weeks ago. Saw a great 3 girl motown/3 part harmony band. Brakewater Jack I think they are called. Really enjoyed them. Frank.
Hiya Frank.. long time no see.. hope you are well! That band is called Blackwater Jack and they are very entertaining alright .. Yeah I see Thomann have the C4 for €399 at the moment which is an ok price, I've been reading about PJB gear for years now but still have'nt taken the plunge! To be honest from what you say and the quote from the C4 user it really sounds like a niche cab that might work great on some of our acoustic gigs but not so well on the electric ones, unless paired with another C4 and a Phil Jones amp... to do that I'd need to sell some stuff so I'll have to do some hard thinking To be honest if I bought the C4 I was also planning to experiment y pairing it with my current cab (TKS S112 1x12) to see how that sounded but if its the power monster its made out to be that combination might not work too well.. my current amp head is a Kustom KXB500 which is an awesome little piece of kit... dont know how it would match up with the C4 but it sounds great with anything else I've plugged it into... hope we see you in Sligo soon... regards Dave
13. I know its all very subjective, just wondering if anyone uses one of these for gigging as a standalone cab and if so what head you use with it, how if fares in the volume/tone dept etc... My regular gig is a 4 piece covers band, bass, drums, guitar and keyboards (used sparingly)... mix of tunes, alot of 80's stuff but some rockier things where things get a bit louder etc... Current rig is Kustom KXB500 head and TKS 112 cab... works very well and I have PA support, really just intrigued by the C4 and the price is ok compared to some of the more expensive PJB stuff... any opinions much appreciated..
14. I have an S112 (without tweeter) in the latter stages of completion and cant wait to get it... current head is TC RH450 which I really like but lately I've been drawn to the phat tones of the Orange Bass Terror 500 and wonder on the back of the above shoot out if anyone has tried one with an S112? I suppose the reputed sheer volume from the TB and the fact that its 500w into 8ohms might deter people from trying one with the 250w rated TKS... I think tonally it might be a nice match tho
15. Had one... came in a rig deal along with an RS210... I rarely used the cab and eventually sold it, however from the few times I did gig it solo it sounded pretty good, I was using the RH450 head and they matched up well... tonally it was a bit 'boxier' than the 2x10 with more mids and less highs, but it was plenty loud and punchy and struck me that it would handle a surprisingly loud situation if required... the only other 1x12 I can compare it to was an Aguilar GS112 that I owned some years back... the TC was definately louder and more mid focused that the Aggie, but that wouldnt be hard :-)... overall a good little cab if 12s are your thang!
16.
Yep - it's all your fault and I'm very grateful.
Ditto mate... on the back of your reviews I have an S112 in the oven at the moment...
17. I need to apologise to those basschatters who pm'd me regarding a cost to post the cab to the UK... I have had one of those weeks at work and have'nt had time to organise anything... please bear with me folks, I will try my best to get the info asap... Dave
18. Bought this a few years back for an EUB gig that fizzled out as soon as it started (see my NS Design CR4M in the EUB for sale section)... Its the extension cab for the AI Contra combo but will work equally well with any micro head or small combo. I mated it to a Gallien Krueger micro combo and it sounds awesome with electric or acoustic basses (or any stringed instrument). One front firing 5" speaker and one down firing 10" speaker.. has a small tilt stand to raise the downfiring woofer off the ground if you like but I think it sounds much fuller on the floor... rated for 300w and weighs about 18lbs so a super compact light carry. This one has the optional leather Acoustic Image cover and I even kept the original shipping box... located in Ireland.
19. nice bass... what is the action like?
