    Ireland is brutal for buying decent bass gear... thats why we spend hours on forums like this and Talkbass reading reviews before we buy blind from somewhere online... price wise the UK aint too bad in general, or the big German stores like Thomann, Musikstore and Musik Schmidt are ok since they offer free shipping.. Buying out of the States is trickier, amps may or may not offer dual voltage but cabs, basses, pedals etc are grand so long as you know the customs boys will be happy to add on a lump of vat/tax when it arrives here..

I prefer the dual voltage switch that alot of recent amp designs have... I'll just wait it out until they start stocking them in 220v this side of the pond...

    Yeah trawling the net is grand but GK amps are single voltage, otherwise I would have bought one out of the States already...but 110v there 220 here...

    The two heads I'm interested in the MB200 ultralight and the MB Fusion dont seem to be in European retailers yet... unless I'm missing something..

    Some of the newer GK heads like the MB 200 Ultra Light and the MB Fusion 500 etc are getting good reviews across the pond so I'm wondering where the best deals are this side of the Atlantic. I'm stuck out on the west coast of Ireland and this country is notoriously poor for decent bass gear suppliers so I'm thinking UK being the closest port of call for me.... I like Mark at Bass Direct but he doesnt stock GK...

    Tough question My first proper bass is my 89 Stingray and that bass has more gigs under its belt and made me more money than any of the others (6 now), for nostalgic reasons I know its the one I will never part with, plus it actually seems to sound even better with age...magic tone... yep 89 ray for me!!

    Yeah the Rootbeer is very cool and it does have more bottom end grunt than any other Stingray I've played, the Sabre neck has been on there forever as far as I am aware, but maybe you are right... its a perfect match in any case, you get all that lovely Pre Ernie Stingray tone with a VERY sweet and playable neck... I am keen to sell at the moment as I need the money, however if things improve and I can keep her I will...

Thanks, Col[/quote] My GK150MB has served me faithfully since 1993, not with a full DB but an NS electric upright...its getting a bit knackered though and tends to flap out a bit lately so I've been hunting for a replacement. The Acoustic Image stuff gets great reviews from DB players, so I just picked up a used Contra EX cab on Talkbass and I will try my Markbass LMII head to run it at least initially... tiny little cab with a downfiring 10" driver and a front firing 5" driver... havent got it yet but will report what its like when I do (next week hopefully)... EA amplification also seems very popular with double bassists...

    Resurrecting this old thread... seems the yanks have this available now in small numbers, first reports are glowing too... I have to say a 4lb GK head with 3 tubes and 500watts is really causing me some GAS problems! I wonder how long it will be before we see them over this side of the pond...ages probably Anyone else curious or even gagging?

    Fewer gigs and a sudden need to claw back some funds has prompted me to test the water with this very nice bass. Serial number B013133 it is a 79 Stingray in Walnut (Rootbeer) finish, with a rosewood fingerboard Sabre neck. I found this link on the ErnieBall website when I was confirming the date etc. [url="http://myweb.ecomplanet.com/TOWN8019/mycustompage0011.htm"]Pre Ernie[/url] Anyone who knows Pre Ernie basses will know that Rootbeer is quite a rare find and for whatever reason they always sound great (must be the beer part!!). Seriously it is a cracking bass with tons of punch and an awesome slap tone. I've owned a few Rays over the years and this one has the most bottom end grunt of any of them but also a beautiful sizzly snappy high end... Condition is very clean considering its age, a couple of small lines on the back which havent pierced the paintwork... the string mutes are fairly worn... other than that shes 100%, great frets and neck, a beaut and plays brill, weight is not bad at 9 3/4 lbs on my scales. I hope the pics reflect the great condition the bass is in. Comes with a fairly worn but functional non original hard case... Price is £1380stg which includes shipping to UK or Europe!!
