1. Roscoe Century Standard 5 with elixir long scale strings. 100% neck pickup most of the time slight bass boost and tiny mid cut on the bass. Into Markbass sa 450, tone controls are slight bass boost again, low mid swept to the sweet spot for cutting a bit of mud, high mid just boosted a touch in the sweet spot for a touch of growl. Through the focusrite compounder with gentle always on compression about 1.5 to 1 ratio, threshold set to get absolute max of 3dB of compression on the peaks on the open E when I really dig in. Bass expansion on just a touch so the low B doesn't get robbed of fundamental byou the compression. Limiter set to catch the biggest peaks on the low B just. You really can't hear it woring except in the mix where it just makes it a tad easy to remain present in the mix without overpowering anyone. Then an assortment of funky flavours on the board but they aren't always on so they're not really core tone....

  3. FOTN absolutely one of my favourite bands of all time ☺☺☺ Seen them many times baclick in the day. Brilliant band live ☺
  4. Because my current rig sounds better than any TE rig I played through back in the day or Eden rig for that matter. And it weighs so much less....
  5. We start with a 40 minutes 4 track magnum funk opus that starts off super quiet and builds and builds to a crescendo. We explicitly don't care if no one realises when we started it, at some point they all realise we are what they've been listening to for the last n minutes. We are an ultra niche band though, 7 piece instrumental cinematic funk 😆
  6. Depends on what you want but I'm trying to get some cymbals and hats as well as toms out front, evenly balanced. It's the easiest way to do it if your drummer can play. The snare mic is pretty carefully treated, compression, eq and a touch of reverb, the over head is almost dry. I'm not adding a lot to fhs, but it's a 7 piece band with a percussionist, the drums need to be the backbone .... And yeah we're loud 😅
  7.
OH - Over head? One mic for everything else?
Yep if your drummer knows how to tunew and play his kit it will balance perfectly if you place the mic over his right shoulder about a foot above him, pointing at the center of the snare. In a pub stereo drums are pointless ime...

    Demo mastering

You don't need spacific mastering software. You need decent ears, room and monitors. You need to be able to tell what is right and wrong in a mix, ie what is best fixed with a mix tweak rather than a mastering chain. That kind of critical listening is impossible for a piece of software to achieve currently, possibly ever. You will probably make use of two or three different compressors, at least one, more likely two or even three eqs, a mid/side processor or two, at least one or two saturation tools and certainly one maybe two forms of brickwall limiter or similar. In my experience.
Dude mastering is the easy part of the process, it shouldn't take you more than 15 mins if you have the right plugins. Check out Graham Cochrane's video on how to master in 10 mins it's great. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0Jx2h-lQkA
I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry 😅
  15.
Good thanks Si.. Still crap at setting up my dbx compressor, but otherwise all fine! Looks like the Berg is about to leave the building, which is good.
Excellent Tell me it ain't so bro keep playing with it, you'll get it in the end (matron!) Hope so, it needs to go to a good home and be used!!
  16. Eldest son's Hartke LH500 has ceased to be a loud thing and I'd like to find someone to fix it. Any recommendations in or around Brighton???
