1. Reaper is very, very efficient...
2. If you play a five string then the Big Twin 2 is the absolute bomb, its not tuned loud in the lows, it just goes waaaay deeper without any eq at all than the S12T. My Roscoe's Low B sounds incredible through my BT2
3. Just off out to see Public Enemy at the Concorde in Brighton, where everyone got so excited about the Foofighters doing their tiny 'secret' gig Its going to be utterly awesome!!!!
4. Simply put, anyone in this thread who dabbles or more in sound engineering is a strong advocate of suitable use of compression. A lot (though far from all) of the bassists dont like it. I'd be willing to bet they are struggling to get a pedal comressor to sound like its doing something they like without being able to feel it doing something they don't like. Which is natural, compressors arent really supposed to be easy to hear
5. Endominiada of the Nephilim by The Fields of the Nephilim Killer album, awesome first track...
6. Tower of Power this evening at Koko in Camden. Awesomeness!!!!
7. Anytime you play through a decent pa live if the engineer has time to soundcheck you will be compressed if you are playing anything but the most acoustic jazz If there is bass in the monitors then that will probably be compressed and definitely limited too. Every time you record the bass will be compressed, usually several times in fact, for different reasons and to achieve different results.
8. On my way to the gig Gonna be awesome 😆
9. JTUK, a question for you... Say you want your notes to have more attack on a song, but you dont want the output to be louder. Now on the next track in the set list you want the attack to be less overt, but you want to be just as loud as before. Using just your hands, how do you do that??? If you play with more attakck you will get more volume, more input means more output. You could try turning the volume on the bass down a bit and playing harder but thats not a very precise solution. For me and all other compressor users who know how to set up a fully featured compressor, thats as simple as using a compressor to change the ratio of transient to sustain in the envelope of every note played at the required volume. Done using a compressor, because thats what the tool is for. Slow attack, medium release, 3:1 ratio, threshold set so you get the right tonality, make up gain to bring the level back. Easy. It wont effect my dynamics at all, since its not going to be squashing anything very hard, and the natural attack of the note isnt being compressed. Some sounds you can't actually recreate without very liberal use of compression (Sledgehammer for instance) other times you can get a sound that better suits your requirements by using a compressor. Its not relying on the device to 'fix' some deficiancy, its all about getting the sound you want with tools that are available. Thats all - for me any way
10. Yes Set a compressor right and it will help you achieve a sound you prefer without getting in the way of your playing at all. If you want to hear the spike set the attack at more than 30ms JTUK, mate ☺
11. Had my ticket for a while now
12. At the same width as a Gator rack case you can walk straight through doors whilst carrying or rolling the big twin.
13. No idea what your current rig is like so anything I say is probably useless ☺ That being said my big twin is a step up dispersion-wise from my Bergantino ae410, it goes louder too, and the ae410 is a seriously loud cab already. Finally it gives the best low B of any cab I've ever heard. It's not got a low end hump like most have instead it just goes deeper, giving a far more even fundamental to the B string than anything I've ever played with. My band immediately thought it a better fit than the 410, and all reckoned they could hear it more clearly throughout the room. Whether or not its what you need I don't know, but it absolutely is an immense single cab solution for bass. You will almost certainly need to rethink your eq to get the most out of it.
14. I work a five minute walk away from Alex's Barefaced Central, it's hard not to pop in more than I do already, always lovely to have a chat with Alex and Bobby and hear about the latest ideas! So happy with the Big Twin I recently bought, truly the first cab I've had that is absolutely even between a low B and a low E, spectacular tone
15. I like free, it has to be something I really need that I can't do any other way. I have a vast vast library of fx but some standouts are:- Rea plugins are fantastic come with Reaper or can be had as a vst pack IIRC Tokyo Dawn feedback compressor Bootsy's Variety of Sound plugins are all good, Density iii, Nasty DLA and the Thrillseekers plus his Baxter eq are exceptional not forgetting FerricTDS and Tesla pro. I use sone these all the time ever mix every master Molot by Vladg on drums in parallel mainly very useful! Samplicity convolution reverb samples are beautiful If you need to priduce DDPs for mastering then Hofa plugins standalone DDP mastering softeare is tge best value for money solution i have found.
16. I saw this when I was picking up my big twin... It's huge by barefaced standards, I didn't get time to have a quick demo but I imagine it sounds rather epic ☺ Still I think it will pale into insignificance compared to some of Alex's upcoming creations.....
17. One of these:- http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_tbone_sc140.htm They're small, cheap and surprisingly reasonable sounding.
18. I put my whole rig on a hopup (big square one from Srewfix) when I was ysing the Berg, got the cab up higher which helped hear the notes a lot. The advantage of that was it would happily hold 150kg so the rig was never in danger of buckling it Now I'm using a Big Twin iii I just leave it on the floor - the dispersion is ace and its a pretty tall cab....

20.
Right you are! ;-p my fat fingers!
Hey mate, for all I know its a Heil I've not heard of and that means I need to get hold of one for a play! I love their mics, PR-28 is my all time favourite snare mic, PR-40 is my favourite low end mic that can be great on vocals too (awesome kick mic, bass cab mic low end of an upright piano mic etcetc).
21.
Heil PR45. Very good gain before feedback.
Dont you mean Heil PR35? And yes they are exceptional mics....
22.
V nice! Pictures please... You know the score
I's love to but I'm damned of I can get that to work on this site anymore
