1. Iv played the 70s and I found the binding abit cheapy plastic looking, but I think that's cuz I had been perving on one hung in a shop for ages, you know what they say about meeting your heros. I quite fancy a standard mim to pimp, the amount of different Mexican fenders really is confusing though, there is a vintage white re issue (possibly 60s) that looks awesome but can't see how its worth so much more. I know the geddy lee is meant to be the dogs nads but at nearly 900 quid, that's us fender territory
2. Looking for a jazz bass and at the price I can't ignore these modern player jazzes, they certaintly look the part but I can't help thinking why they have put double jazz pickups on them. Will playing one make me extra modern?! Has anyone played one,how do they affect the sound? I guess and wonder if it works well why didn't fender do this the previous 60 or so years the jazz has been about. Any help would be much appreciated Simon
3. Hi mate,iv had my b3 for around a month now. My first multi effects,I mainly got it for the drum machine for practicing at home. I think its pretty good to be honest, don't get me wrong there are plenty of awful affects I can't imagine anyone using but there are also some really good ones. The best overdrive for me is the svt amp simulator, gives a real nice warmth and is fully adjustable thru the 3 or 4 pages you get with each effect. The chorus is another highlight,as is the 'bottom b' effect which gives a nice deep reggae sound. The patches are worth a go too, although there seems to be about 3 million of them, which ain't a bad thing I guess. Definatley worth the 130 i paid. Although I gigged it for the first time on Xmas eve and with my size 12 doc martens I had to be careful what I was pressing. Can't help you with comparing to the others you mentioned but I really do rate this if your a 'part time's effects user like me :-)
4. Second hand musicman sterling? If you can find one they are seriously good basses and the thin neck profile will suit you after the jazz. And I think with the 3 band eq and 3 way pick up selector, probably any sound you could want (certainly is enough for me). What I can't work out about fenders is a standard mex jazz is around 500 and the re issues and '60s' jazzes etc go for £300 more, surely worth getting an American special, although they confuse me even more!
5. I had an abm500 which was meant to be 575w. I ran it thru a 1x15 and a 2x10. Now I'm no expert but was surprised to have it quite abit past the half way point on the volume,in 200 capacity venues and thru the pa. Our drummer is extremely loud but I thought it should have been coping a lot better. It died not too long after so may of had problems. We play with a band quite abit and the bassist has an old abm300 with a Marshall 4x10 and he seems loud enough. I have heard a lot of people say ashdown are a 'quiet' *** watts. I now have a lh1000 and 8x10,which never goes above 2.5/3 (yes I know totally over the top but playing infront of a 810 is something quite special!) *edit* to actually answer your question yes I would definatley go for 500w mate, least you know you have the power if you need it. And sods law one day you will

7. you up for courier collection mate? after having to take my 8x10 for a half hour set,i need a small cab!! your abit to far away though :-)
8. When I had it I'm pretty sure it was (looking from above when playing, left to right) neck vol, bridge vol and overall tone. Although id never played a jazz before so all seemed normal to me
9. Just sold a bass to Keith, quick payment and comms. A pleasure to deal with Enjoy the bass Simon
10. Bump for some jazzy goodness.....Mmmmm nice!
11. That advert was a joy to read! Glws Si
12.
Also musikraft.com. The necks aren't cheap but the list of options looks impressive. Beent threatening to buy one off them myself for a while now.
They look nice, don't see a musicman option but guess they could make one up
13.
Try contacting bass chatter Henry norton, he's priced stuff for me before and I would have every faith in using him.
Cheers mate, any idea of his user name? Not sure how I would find him without. Thanks
14. As above really, have been toying with the idea of getting a new neck custom made for my sterling, same as original just in a really nice maple, birdseye sort of thing. Just wondered what I can expect to pay. Have emailed a few local luthiers but no reply as of yet,and don't wanna waste their time if we are talking high 000s. Thanks! Si
15. Hey there, decided to put my 3 week old Squier 5 string Jazz in natural/maple. I brought 3 weeks ago to give the world of the 5 string a go,and obviously it hasn't gone well! Beautiful bass, seriously can't tell the differences between this and my old MIM precision quality wise. I played her at my first band practice with her on Sunday and playing fast ska punk with 5 strings kinda blew my mind,I know I know I will get used to it but just thought I would see if anyone has any trades, for a 4 string obviously. Looking for a jazz really or a presicion with narrowish neck,am willing to put money into it. I have a mm sterling so a narrow neck is quite important. For sale I would say £260 delivered,I paid 291 from PMT in northampton a few weeks ago and it is MINT! 16. Beautiful bass. Someone buy it,I love mine
17. Proper 'road worn', love it. Such a dark rosewood with the black looks so good,3 ply black plate would look goooood imo
18.
I stayed on the 5 only for about a month then started to play the odd song on a 4, now I'm fairly competent (or equally as incompetent) on either. If I didn't love my '82 pre EB so much I might of ditched the 4's altogether though.
It's that (eb) mm magic,I havnt found a better bass so far
19. Good advice there.I must admit the total mind blank people get when playing in shops was doubled when I picked it up,felt so strange but I soon noticed how good a low note here and there can sound. Just don't wanna get hooked and leave my mm sterling 4 behind
20. Going to pick up a 5 string tomorrow....I gave in! It's a squier vm in natural, a lot of bass for little money. Will see how I get on....
21. I agree, someone buy this in one piece, its way too nice to part out. I must resist
22. Is this the series with the jazz neck mate?si
23.
Apparently the first runs of the new Geddy Mex necks were used for these
What is that and why don't I own it?!
24. Seems there is a trend emerging here.... So all you 5 string converts, any temptation for 6 string,as if one string made you convert surely 2 extra is the way forward?!
