The original Schecters from late 70's to early 80's are outstanding instruments. Custom shop level and quite innovative for the day (coil tapping, etc). They were USA-made and still command a high price amongst the small group of collectors. The newer stuff pales in comparison and has a 'metal' aesthetic which doesn't appeal to many. It's a shame really as they could probably cash-in on their original heritage, but it's likely a very slim market. I think things such as the "Machine Gun Kelly" signature guitar would probably alienate older, more traditional, players like myself.

Hi all, I picked up an Ashdown CTM30 in tweed over the weekend and I'm currently running it with two Ampeg SVT112's. I'm looking at picking up a couple of the Ashdown CTM 1x12's as they each seem 5kg lighter than the Ampeg, plus a matching tweed rig looks cool. Has anyone compared the two, or have any thoughts on the Ashdowns? I know some people aren't keen on Ashdown cabs, but would be interested in anyone's experience. Thanks!

Hi all, Moving on my Ashdown ABM 600 EVO IV head. This is a UK made custom shop head with the dual VU meters. I've had it for less than 12 months and never had any issues with it. It's in great condition. It can be carried in the handle, or includes all the bits to be rack-mounted. Also comes with the Ashdown footswitch, although I have never used it. It's super-loud. The loudest amp I've ever owned, so it's wasted on me. Needs to be with someone out gigging! Not looking for any trades and collection only I'm afraid. I'm in between Leek and Stoke, but get down to Birmingham a lot with work, or up to the NW to visit family. Happy to pick up any queries! Thanks all NOW SOLD!

Hi all, For sale is my 1986 Gallien Krueger 800RB. This is the OG version with the horizontal switch. I've had it about 18 months, and it was bought from a guy who used it as a backup for his other 2 800RB's! It has just been serviced and given a clean bill of health. Had a grounding issue so a little bit of hum, and one of the 4 ohm outputs didn't work. There was a bit of corrosion on the socket and now all good. Sounds great, can demolish buildings if that's your thing. Ticking over nicely for an amp nearly 40 years old. I bought some aftermarket rack ears for it too so it can be put in a flight case. These will be included. Not keen on shopping so collection is very much preferred. I'm in ST6 in Staffordshire, in between Leek and Stoke. I usually get down to Birmingham with work every few weeks and venture up the M6 to see family quite a bit. Not looking for any trades thanks! Happy to pick up any questions

I'm not aware of any available covers for them. The coverless thing was kind of their schtick! Rio Grande Muy Grande's would be a good call. They originally looked like the Schecter pickups (no covers) but they changed them a while back. Quarter inch pole pieces too.
-
The Schecter Monstertones are my favourite pickups! They should be quite hot already - their resistance won't be massive (maybe 6k ish) but the big chunky ceramic bar magnet underneath boosts them up a bit. SD Quarter Pounders will have the larger pole pieces if that's your thing and they should be hot enough. Not sure if they have the coil tap abilities though that the Schecter's do.

Who has rack ears (edit: and knobs) for vintage Gallien-Krueger 400RB's?
umcoo replied to ossyrocks's topic in Amps and Cabs
Is your 800RB a proper old one with the horizontal power switch, or a more recent one with the vertical switch? I tried to find some knobs for the former a few years ago and couldn't find any. I always wondered if someone could 3D print one, or buy a non-working example from the US and use it as a donor amp. -

Hi, I had a similar issue with my 80's GK800RB. I found these rack ears on eBay and bolted them on the inside of the amp's case. They've worked great. Cheap too. I have linked the 2u ears for the 400RB below. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/165973127952?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=V7TM5Eg_SQ-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=TN_QcJMCSYy&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY -
I love those old GK RB heads. I've got a 1986 800RB at the moment which sounds so good. I've heard very good things about the 400RB's too. Looks like a great rig, enjoy it!
-
Yeah, I saw you had them for sale. I'm surprised as they're a great, affordable way to get a reasonable sized gigging rig, fit in back of the car, easy lift. Picked mine up a couple of years ago. Good luck with them! Need to get down to a practice space and crank the ABM.

I joined this group yesterday, picking up an ABM 600 Evo IV DR. Holy heck, this thing has some volume. Still dialing it in, but sounds great so far.

They might be the ones that belonged to the chap earlier in this thread who was selling 4 of them at once. I'd love to try a Longhorn but I'm 6'3" and can't help but think it'd look a bit silly on me. I'm fortunate to already own 2 late 90's Danos. A "Commie Red" DC59 and a Hodad in blue sparkle. Both have flats and sound superb.- 168 replies

Looks like you did a great job. It's always satisfying to work on something yourself and get the desired outcome. Bass looks fantastic too!
-
I've followed a few of your builds over the year @kevin_lindsay and they always look spectacular. Love the pastel colours too. Great bass.
-
Yep, lusted after these as a spotty teenager. They also came in Olympic White and Natural too.
-
Yeah, I've tried multiple basses, cables and cabs. Just needs a competent tech, I suppose.
-
I'd be interested if you manage to get this resolved. I have an old Peavey valve amp which is making a similar noise, and previous techs have not found any issue with it. Rather frustrating.
