The poles in the neck PUP of my Squier Jazz Bass fell down, and when I opened it up, the glue holding it to the cover has lost its grip. I wouldn't mind trying out new PUPs, so does anyone have any recommendations for some relatively cheap (>£50) Jazz Bass style PUPs? I don't really have any particular sound in mind, and i'm open for a bit of experimentation.
Ah, I wondered what those knobs on my amp were for. THANK YOU EXPERT VILLAGE!!!
i'm turning the knobs, but my amp still isn't making any noise. Maybe if I dropped it off a cliff, it'd work. I wonder if they'd encourage that...
Well, what would you expect from an "Expert Village" video? Famous for their ultimate "String Stretching" exercise: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3k7igz-Pmkw
i can't believe anyone would be stupid enough to do that! I've only been playing bass for 4 years now, but I know that you NEVER stress a string like that. I'm not letting that guy anywhere near my Squier, let alone my Fender.

that's gotta be the strangest looking guitar i've ever seen... at least it can be a long or a short guitar. I hate it how you can't make a guitar long or short with the press of a button.

i don't know why you'd want a cure for GAS. My GAS has only just started, and I love it!

sweet... How much was the S1 switching hardware? I'm interested in doing it to my Highway1 Jazz.

looks like it could be swaying towards a good idea... 7 votes, currently at 100% yes yeah, sounds rad. I'm probably not experienced enough to contribute, but I'll give it a shot. I'll definitely use the resource if it's available; anything that improves my playing must be a good thing.

What 1 question to any bass player would you ask?

Jaco, why did you chuck your basses into the bay, and why the hell did you give that bouncer lip? -
i would keep it natural if the wood looked any good, but it's fairly rubbish, and I don't really care about tone in it; it never had much to begin with anyway. I suppose my goal isn't to make it look gorgeous in any way, but more to make it a piece of art. I won't be doing anything to it for a about 6 weeks (end-of-year exam revision ), so feel free to keep the ideas flowing. Thanks again for the input

There is Primus, Les Claypool and the Holy Mack, and Les Claypool's Frog Brigade, and i'm sure there are more

Is there a bass line that you just couldnt do?
low note lee replied to Bass_In_Yer_Face's topic in General Discussion
YYZ - Rush. I can't play that with a pick, let alone fingers. -
Have a look here for some trippy looking basses. If basses had a roadworthy equivalent, very few of these would pass enjoi

my squier jazz bass is great. I'm really impressed with the sound of it considering it cost me about $250 AUD (about 104 pounds). Even though i have my gorgeous Fender Highway1 Jazz Bass, i still use the Squier on occasions.

The Perception of Bass Players
low note lee replied to bass_in_ya_face's topic in General Discussion
I did a gig at school a few weeks ago. The rythm guitarist couldn't move because he had a broken wrist (it was a wonder he could play at all), the drummer was headbanging all he could, and the lead guitarist had a mic in his mouth, and pedals at his feet (that was excuse, anyway), so all the movement was left to me. I was jumping around like a maniac, and that was what got us the kudos after we played -
If you were starting again as a beginner . . .

i would have learnt left handed bass at the same time as I was learning right handed bass -
There are some killer Tool songs for bass, such as Lateralus and Disposition (from the album Lateralus), and if you feel a bit more adventurous, take a stab at Schism (Lateralus) or The Pot (10,000 Days). Tooltabs.net and TOOLbassplayer on youtube are both awesome resources.
BC Rich styled bass. OMFG those things are ugly. Bc Rich in general make the ugliest guitars possible. Then again, i hate the really angular ones, i like my classics.
damn straight, those things are awful. They look awful, they feel awful to hold, the feel terrible to play, and they sound even worse. A mate of mine got a BC Rich bass with a transparent purple body because he was going into a heavy metal band, and thought they looked cool. He loved it for a week or two, then the novelty wore off, and he realised just how shithouse the thing actually was. He ended up breaking even and got an Epiphone Thunderbird

i wish I was Geddy Lee Or at least his roadie

There are some good ideas coming through. Keep them coming! When I took it apart, I gave the scratchplate to a mate's girlfriend to draw on. They broke up, and I haven't seen her since, so she's probably still got it. I was thinking of making a new scratchplate for my Fender anyway, so i'll use its which scratchplate on the Squier. With the current suggestions, I'm thinking of doing the top half with paper (cartoons, manuscript, phone book pages), and the bottom half with the car spray paint. @EdwardHimself; funny you say that, I was going to buy a maple neck with black block inlays

My first bass what a Squier California series Jazz Bass, which looked something like this when new: I decided black was too common, so I would re-finish it. I took it apart, and sanded the thing down to the wood, so no it looks more like this; I was going to cover it with Astro Boy cartoons, but I thought I'd put it to the community of Basschat to decide a new finish for it. If you were to re-finish a bass, what would you do to it? The person who comes up with the best idea will have their username put wherever they want it. Go nuts! Cheers, Lee
