1. Surely it would have been better etiquette to offer it on here FIRST rather than just throwing us a line to an ebay ad...
2. The fact that you can "push" a wire back onto its "post" means there is something wrong, and it WILL fail again, probably in the middle of your showcase gig. Get it fixed properly.
3.
Using Dunlop nylons at the minute as can't seem to find Hercos around here - they're not the same though. You get a bit of bite to the sound off them as well with the textured sides - assuming you play with the side of the pick like I do! There's another thought - am I alone in this? Does everyone else use the point of the pick?? I sometimes use the gold Flex 50s as well depending on song. I'm just getting back into using a pick after 20 years of fingers and quite enjoying it.
Im exactly the same, I knacker the edges way before the tips get any abuse, thats my style, and I get exactly the sound I want. Herco Flex75 at about 45 degrees on both planes, LOADS of scrape and zing, and you can dig in as hard as you need to without worrying. I swap to Flex50s occasionally if I want a change of scenery.
4.
since when will you use 300 watts? let alone 400+. too much power!
Nope, for a gigging amp, trouser flapping bass end AND dynamics needs loads of headroom to make it work. Id rather run a 400 watt amp at respectable volume then have all the welly there in reserve if I need it, than run a 200 watt at full pelt and flatten everything in the process. Also bear in mind that doubling the watts does NOT double the volume, and bass needs more power than top end does. Thats why you often see 300w bass amps alongside 100w guitar rigs, and the guitar rigs can still occasionally drown the bass out because they are projecting higher frequencies that are easier to amplify and reproduce, and (crucially) are much more directional. Also depends on the cab. An SVT through an 8x10 will knock people senseless at #5 on the master volume, but through a Hartke 4x10 it sounds a bit limp.
5. Make up a new scratchplate (or have one made), then you can fit whatever the hell you like, then revert it back to stock when you finally get rid of it. Gibson Firebird pickups (chromed soapbars) always look good on Ricks, dont worry about the 6 pole thing, all original Rick "Toaster" pickups were 6 pole as well, and nobody EVER complained .
6.
^ Now THAT's a t-shirt slogan if ever there was one... ;-)
Maybe, but its in my sig now
7. I use Overdrive pedal + Fuzz pedal + OD on the amp in various combinations depending on song, occasional chorus at slow rate but maximum depth, and occasional delay. That does me now I have taken the wah out of the circuit, it wasn't getting as much use as before due to the bands set changing a bit, so I removed it to stop me getting tempted. Might stick a flanger in there for occasional subtle usage, works a treat on the clean stuff. Pedals are player-specific, what works for you might not work for anyone else, but I am also a little narked by the "covering up lack of talent" inferred in the title. Then again, one mans talent is another mans bag of cold sick...
8. Most famous example I can think of, regarding usefulness of scratchplates
9. Thanks for the well meant offer, but I'd rather chew my left arm off than deal with anyone remotely connected with Denmark Street unless its cash straight into my hands there and then.
10. Also Brian Robertson, John McGeogh (RIP), Steve Rothery, Bic from Cardiacs, and the bloke out of the Buggles
11. Haha, already paid for mine, but need Bloodstock ticket as well Actually, I'll accept a Bloodstock ticket as part payment if anyone has a spare!
12. Make me an offer then, I need to sell some gear fast
13. Continuing cash crisis means I am putting anything I consider "non-essential" up for sale (see my other FS links in my signature) 2001 PRS McCarty, special order. This is a custom order, this was not available off the peg in this configuration (plain carved top with birds and gold HW) Stunning condition. Original case, tags, brochure etc in case pocket. This is the best playing guitar I have ever owned. FACT. Nothing has ever come close to it for playability. However, it is a huge lump of cash sitting there not getting played as much as my Les Paul, so one of them has to go. It breaks my heart, but I have a credit card crisis looming, so I need to generate some cash. In light of the custom order rarity and the outstanding condition for a 10 year old guitar, I am asking £1700ono This would cost well over £3k to buy new, and this has 10 years of subtle ageing to help it along. Money can't buy that. I will consider P/X for a quality valve guitar head plus cash, but would prefer a straight sale if possible. 14. Nicely built wooden case with low profile corners, quality catches and rigid handle. Fixed hinges so you can use it to hold a custom floorboard, or you could always replace them with lift-off hinges so you have an all in one solution. Top is lined with blue felt. I have no idea why! Excellent condition, never gigged, just missing one foot (dead easy to replace) Measurements (cm): INTERNAL: 65 x 27 x 9 EXTERNAL: 68 x 30 x 12 (plus handle) 20.00 collected from London, 28.00 posted in UK. 15. I am now selling my project Status bolt-on S-3000 if anyone fancies grafting one of Rob Greens incredible necks onto something. Link is in my sig.
16.
If it's serial number 053, it's my old one. Actually I'd rather not know...
No, its not your old one, the serial on this is much lower, "L@@K R4RE v1n7A63" lol...
17. My Wilkes has an ebony board, it is absolutely incredible to play, almost as good as my old Giffin was.
18. Original SG2000, not the later inferior reissue. Push-push coiltaps, sustain block, all the usual SG2000 appointments, and its in the nicer dark tobacco sunburst, not the reddy one. It is well used and has had Sperzel tuners fitted, some buckle rash and scuffs etc, but its all there and sounds absolutely breathtaking. Will need a setup as it has been sitting in the case for about 3 years. Comes with original hard case with one latch missing. Sale due to cash crisis and subsequent realisation that I have far too many instruments. [s]£1250 ono[/s] £1150 ovno
19. SOLD, THANKS FOR ALL ENQUIRIES. I bought this last year with the intention of re-facing it, then I decided to use it for a headless Thunderbird project, then I changed my mind again, and it has just sat around doing nothing. It has a chunk out of the top where the jack socket got knocked out. The bass still works, and it is currently wired passive with an output jack crudely screwed into the top on the bit that is going to eventually be repaired (so what the hell!), although the original preamp is still in there, and is probably fine. It needs a good setup and a clean to use it as-is as a mutant throwaround, or alternatively, some TLC from a sympathetic luthier to make this into a gorgeous lump of sleek beauty. It is pretty banged around, lots of little chips and dinks on the neck and body, so would be perfect for someone to either rebuild, reface, or turn into some horrid creation (like my Thunderbird idea that never happened) Sale due to cash crisis and subsequent realisation that I have far too many instruments. I'd like [s]£400 ono[/s] £360 ovno
20. SOLD, THANKS! Amazing bass, very much like a P-bass in sound and feel, but with ridiculously over the top styling and 2-tone metalflake paintjob. It comes with a shaped soft gigbag. These are pretty rare in any form, and this one does NOT have bashed up points like do many others do, just a few little dinks, and a scrape on the top point on the G-string side. It is a good 9/10 condition, I would go as far as to say I have never ever seen another one this clean after nearly 30 years! Cash crisis forces sale of some of my non-essential gear. [s]£300 ovno[/s] £265ovno
21. With heavy heart... 1972 4001, dated April '73 (explanation follows). This is one of the last ever proper 4001s that had the complete compliment of checkerboard binding, toaster pickup, plexi TRC and full width inlays before Rickenbacker started butchering them in the cost-curring redesign era. The cool bit is that it has full width "mother of toilet-seat" in the full width slots as they had run out of the crushed glass by this point but still had a few leftover 1972 bodies routed for full width inlays, this makes these examples extremely scarce as they are the last of the 1972 production run being used up in early '73 in readiness for the narrow inlay/plain binding era. It is in good overall condition, and has the original case which is also an early 70s leftover as it has the slightly thinner catches and lining, the case is worth around £300 on its own to hardcore RIC collectors. The bass has no breaks, no fingerboard problems and no neck-wing joint issues. It loves roundwounds, and has had them on for at least the last 15 years with no ill effects. The binding is intact and still strong, no rot or glue fade. Frets in good shape, still enough meat to keep going for a good while. All hardware original except tuners and p/up switch. No bridge lift, no buckling, or big chunks out of the finish. A few minor considerations: Pickup switch replaced, and needs replacing again as its getting a bit loose. Tuners replaced with good reliable Schallers some time in the 1980s (the original stripey back Grovers fell apart as usual, load of old crap!) Minor routing under bridge pup, when I got this, it had a DiMarzio installed, but the owner had kindly left the original pickup in the case, so I refitted it. Hole is invisible unless you take the pickup plate off. Damper missing (frankly, who cares?) 2 holes where a thumbrest was fitted in the dim and distant past. This is basically a leftover 1972 bass that ended up with a '73 plate and non-glass full-width markers. It is a total MANS bass for MANLY players, and doesn't like being "tickled" by gentle, low action afficionados, it responds better the harder you play it and growls like a pitbull. I kept hold of it for a Motorhead tribute band I was going to do, if you are on the Lemmy tip, this is possibly the best original Rick you could want for the job. A couple of people including Cetera played this at the Surrey Bass Bash and commented on this, drooled a lot then ran away before they got GAS... I have been collecting Ricks for the last 25 years, and I am down to my last 3, this was one of the "never sell" basses but I am having a cash crisis and selling off a lot of my stuff. In light of the few little niggles and the fact I really don't want to sell this unless I absolutely have to, I am looking for [s]2300[/s] 2100 ovno. - I have added some more pics further down the thread.
22. Great bass from this overlooked manufacturer, they knock out some really nice stuff under the Fernandes and Burny names in Japan, but us short-sighted Euros are far too busy chasing Squiers to notice them! Couple of dings on the front of the body, and a bit of general wear, but this is a great sounding instrument for the money. This will make a great main gigging bass, or a backup when you don't want to take the Stingray out to the local rough-house boozer. 34 inch scale. Nut width is 40mm (1-9/16"). I'm lookin for 130 quid including UK postage for a quick sale. (RRP is currently a shade under 300, street price around 250) Will consider PX for EMG 35s, Epi Thunderbird hardcase, headless hardware, effects etc
23. I saw something very similar to this a few weeks ago in cash converters, marked "Thompson", it was 200 quid and played very nicely.
24. Speechless at what is either total stupidity, or outright porky-pies on the sellers part. I suspect the latter.
