Unfortunately, this IS genuine. Paypals draconian new rules mean that sellers (again) are automatically in the wrong until they have a certain number of transactions under their belts, and yes, they do hold funds from the seller until positive feedback is left, or several weeks have passed without any claims being made against the seller. This means until you leave feedback, or let weeks pass, the seller will NOT receive any money from the transaction. Paypal protecting the buyer at the cost of the sellers rights, as usual. GO FOR CASH IN HAND EVERY TIME!

Ric-O-Sound kit (complete - mint)
robocorpse replied to The Twickerman's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
3x jack sockets, .0047u cap, hammond style metal box, neutrik TRS plug and 2m of cable. Total cost £11, labour 20 minutes. Rub in the magic snake oil and add vintage looking logo. Result £79. I shall look into making identical units, advertise them on ebay, and wait for the insults to start flying when they claim I have "stolen their design". I hasten to use the word "stupidity" lest I annoy the mods, but really... -
One of the worst eBay adverts

He could have cleaned it before posting 100 photos of it on the net That fingerboard is filthy. Nice bass for 165 though, someone got a bargain. -
To be horrible blunt. if its Genesis, its unlikely to be that complicated. They tend to think in one bar patterns and don't cross bar lines much.
Except for the love it or hate it solo section in "Robbery Assault And Battery" which is an absolute pig when the drums go to stabs while Tony plays that organ run that sounds like it was nicked from "won't get fooled again". Its either staying in 13/8 and going out of time with itself (likely) or Phil's trying to do something clever and fudging it (likely) but its wonderfully confusing listening to Genesis after Phil decided to try his hand at Jazz Fusion. I like to think of it as a happy accident.

CARDIACS - It's A Lovely Day Nice example of 15/16 in the intro.

The over-dark photos and lack of description are offputting, especially as you can see the back of the bass looks (imho) pretty rough in the light reflections in the second photo. Is he a crap photographer, or is he trying to hide something?

Heres a little something I rebuilt and refinished several years ago (when Watchman was cool the first time round) I wonder where it is, and if the current owner has refinished it?
SS73 and robocorpse..... Seriously guys, lay off the insults please or you'll find your warning level going up......
I beg to differ. Do you not agree that these boxes go for far in excess of what they are actually worth, purely because they have the magic "R" on them? If I started knocking up "Rob-O-Sound" boxes and advertising them on ebay for more than a tenner, I would be laughed off. I say good luck to Twickerman, the more money he gets the better, if people are willing to get into a bidding war for it, thats their lookout. How is that an insult? -

There are plenty of Rick fanatics who are stupid enough to pay 100 quid for a stereo/mono splitter box as long as it has Rickenbacker stamped on it. To be fair, what if it said "ALEMBIC" on it? or "WAL"? -
Apparently, according to a geordie friend of mine, Charvel were sold in woolworths years ago as before hair metal took off ,not many people had hard of them. They seem to have a good reputation .
Is this a failed attempt at humour? Your mate is thinking of Top Twenty, Kay, Columbus, Satellite or (shudder) Encore. Seriously though, refer to above Charvel/Jackson stories.
I contacted JD and he said he noticed nothing. But saying that, if he only set up the bass he might not have plugged it in. Sorry to say, but I think something is well dodgy here. I've seen photos of the wiring and it's an absolute mess.
"Kevin" said in the original FS post that JD was replacing the scratchplate. Bearing in mind the plate on the Stingray 5 holds all the electrics (and they have to be removed to change it), thats about as close to the wiring as you can get, so it MUST have been noticed, or done afterwards. And if so, why? Heres a quote from Kevins original FS post...
The bass is currently with John Diggins being set up, I get it back sometime next week. He's also fitting a new black pearl pickguard to it.

Unfortunately I am the bearer of bad news as I bought a stingray 5 from Kevin (kinda foolishly) trusting that the bass was functioning correctly. Having later proudly taken it to show a friend who knows stingrays very well he pointed out that it was sounding terrible on two of the three pickup settings (compared with what it should sound like..) and needed attention. This was a costly and timely process which resulted in the discovery of sellotaped wiring connections, plus cables not soldered on at all and all pickup wires soldered to the wrong connections... Kevin described this problem as having "developed"....I've never come across wires that have the ability to re-solder themselves voluntarily but hey
"Lowfer" advertised it here on October 25, and presumably sold it to "6stringbassist". "6stringbassist" (Kevin) advertised it on Nov 19th, mentioning the plate was being changed by JD, then posted the bass was "SOLD" on 28 November, so he had it at least 2 weeks. The way I see it is unless Kevin did the dodgy wiring himself, then the fault may partially lie with Lowfer (JD wouldn't have done that). The fault could easily "develop" if the wiring is sellotaped instead of soldered. The old advert for the bass mentions John Diggins changing the plate while in Kevins ownership, so I am surprised this wasnt brought up in conversation with Kevin and JD, so I think Kevin knew all along, and just let it go as is. Somethings wrong here, JD wouldn't have let a bass out like that without telling the owner, and/or offering to mend the wiring. Rewiring a Stingray aint exactly rocket science...
Oddly, that isn't quite as funny as some of the real audiophile sites. These people have gone beyond parody. Things haven't changed much since the 1950s. http://members.optusnet.com.au/pennywyatt/...0a%20Hat02.html
True, but at least in the 1950s, a lot more people understood what was going on inside the box, and a large proportion of hi-fi buffs actually built and modified their own gear, the cutting edge was new and devious ways to add a resistor here, change a coil there and properly tweak gear in search of better clarity, which was (on the whole) much needed in the earlier days. Thats how the term "High Fidelity" was coined, as most equipment back then was not capable of reproducing speech or music clearly enough for you to think you were in the room with them. Now, its all back to snake oil as even the hardened audiophiles just want to see pretty design, and be conned into buying stuff like those wooden sound cones and green CD pens. +1 for the Flanders and Swann stuff, ahh, the old days -
Over years my bass has slowly migrated from dangling down by my knees to just below my rib-cage. That's been over the space of years, can't say there's any movement during any single gig!
That'll serve you right for washing and tumble drying the strap after each gig
