12. My local Boots the chemist does prints from memory cards, phones etc., you can either do it via the till or actually do it yourself at a PC type printing machine, I'm sure most other Boots offer the same service John
 13.
You never know. I've got a friends Marshall that looks similar vintage but is only 30W and 2x12, and is really not that good (lots of issues on the PCB, now sorted) but it is loaded with 2 Celestion Greenback speakers, the "vintage" ie '70s ones are quite sought after by guitarists and go for quite good money.
Thanks for the reply, I'll the the back of and check the speaker make when i get a chance. John
 14.
I've had people asking me about buying their first instrument (in the land of the blind and all that). I usually advise them to take a bass playing friend with them to check out the instrument. Basschat might be a place to meet a bass playing friend if you don't already know one. I'm not sure that all the Harley Benton's are rebranded Shines. Some of the 'modern' ones, and the McCartney bass look very much like Shines. But, the new models and the J, P, basses don't match any Shines that I've seen. (Which doesn't mean that they aren't Shines). My policy too. My theory is that beginners should get something that's playable, and not too expensive. Then, worry about getting the 'right' bass at some time in the future when they're more competent. It may be a chicken and the egg situation where you can't choose the right bass until you're more experienced, but you need a bass to get experienced on. What helped me a lot early on is that I was recommended to go to the Lakland site and listen to their bass demos. That showed me what basses of different types (p-bass, j-bass etc.) sounded like, which helped me narrow down the choice a bit. And I heard what good quality basses sounded like, so I could estimate how good sounding a cheaper version was in comparison. 15.
Another good reason to buy a Harley Benton is thomann have a good return policy you don't like it send it back.
That's what I have been thinking as well, seems a good option, think I might leave it a few days, keep checking what I have been watching on Ebay, keep checking on BC and if nothing happens order the HB next Monday Thanks again for all the advice/opinions people, it's been nice to read what people think The search continues John
 16. Thanks for the replies, food for thought !, now undecided what road to go down
 17.
Good evening, John... Can't help with your choice, I'm afraid; I was just wondering if you've already skimmed through the 'Basses For Sale' ads in the forum. Is there nothing there that fits your needs..? You might be able to get a better bass, already set up, for less money. No problem; just wondering...
I have, most I cannot afford and those I might be able to buy are too far away to pick up Maybe I'll just keep checking to see if something comes up for sale in London that I can afford Thanks for the reply. John
 18. Always sad when a talented person like hat passes away so young, thoughts are with his kin and friends
 19. Being out of work and funds being tight I've been saving to buy a bass and get shot of the borrowed Encore P-Bass I've been learning on, I now have enough saved to order a bass and I have been looking at the two below (see links) and would like fellow BC'ers opinions on both, I am leaning toward the HB JB75 because of the pickups http://www.thomann.de/gb/harley_benton_hbb1975_na.htm http://www.musicstore.com/en_EN/GBP/Basses/4-strings/Jack-and-Danny-150A-STBN-Satin-Brown/art-BAS0003160-000#FullDetails Thanks in advances peeps John
