  1. I always wanted to try one of them - no knobs on the fretless?
  2. Given that the tracking doesn't seem to work... how long should a Thomann order take?

I had a DHL no-show last week, despite being informed of a 1hr delivery window. They tried the next day and the drop-off point supposedly refused the guitar. The drop-off point was recommended by DHL.

      It's in Thomann's hands now.

I am getting the feeling the answer was and is in the future something that rhymes with “Chase Effect”

I hope they eventually delivered your Thomann order. Mine arrived today undamaged, which is not bad at exactly 5 working days since I ordered it. Unfortunately, the main part of the order, which was a Guild B-240EF fretless acoustic bass had clearly not been through proper quality control. The nut and bridge were cut much too low. The first string was practically touching the fretboard immediately after the nut and it rattled horribly. The fourth string wasn't much better. It had quite a noticeable bow in the neck. I think that, rather than send it back for a new nut, the factory QC just slackened the truss rod a bit to make it almost playable. If I had tightened the rod to get less of a bow, the top string would have been touching all the way up. I am not sure if it is because of this but plugged in the middle two strings were much louder than the 1st and 4th.

I have started a return/replacement request but assuming it is collected on Friday, I am probably not going to see the replacement for another two weeks. This is the second time I have had to return a faulty guitar to Thomann. I suspect they just take the boxes out of the warehouse and post them without more than a perfunctory check. The battery was still in its plastic wrapper, so clearly it had not been plugged in before being posted and how anybody could think the setup was acceptable, I don't know. It is irritating but then I have had similar experiences with Andertons. It seems quality control is not a priority for the volume box shifters.

  3. this thread I guess - but the OP has already found that...
  4. No idea what it is - but it looks lovely!
  5. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1979-Wal-Pro-Bass-RARE-Plain-Face-Earliest-Example-/185252436855?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 I’ll leave this here, this lot often seem to have Japanese basses at silly prices - this time it’s a couple of Wals - this one complete… well I’m sure it’s a reasonable price for what it is 🤪
  6. Me too!
  7. actually I retract a little of what I said previously about letting it all wash over you.... It's amazing. It's hilarious- at what point of learning an instrument do you only tune half of it?
  8. Well done all - by tomorrow lunchtime you will be 3% of the way there 🤛
  9. Stalin, Hitler, Mao, Mussolini are all dead.
Lukashenko, Kim Jong-un, Putin and Erdogan are still in power. This is a dictators update

I prefer the term 'trouser-spuds', though.

  10. sometimes you just have to step away and observe other peoples madness from a zen type place. I used to do some PA stuff for church, and some professional design. I chose to stop doing PA and now just look with amusement at some of the things going on... And in my last church a rebrand happened, they obviously knew more about design than a professional designer... and now there is a church in leeds with a logo that doesn't work very well on websites or ppt or display screens... who would have anticipated that?...
  11. Possibly, but in some off topic thread I didn’t read... - but I don’t get the point of your post tbh - if an economy is dependent on slave labour then it is a both/and situation rather than a either/or…
  12. Made me think of that 1975ish Cimar jazz I found for £30 and you helped me out with a tuner brushing for - honestly one of the most fun basses I’ve ever played. I picked it up for a mate who needed his first bass. It still gets played regularly by him. I should have kept it!!
  13. To be fair you don’t really need to limit it to 80s - any Japanese fender …
  14. have you just agreed with yourself?
  15. £80ish I think , sound about right?
  16. So mine works - but there’s a gremlin where if you bypass the preamp the active pickups seem to pick up noise from the preamp still - so really it needs passive pickups… but I can’t decide if I’m going to keep the bass, would I be better to sell it on now, or find a cheap set of passive PJ pickups and then maybe sell it on… or get some decent pickups for more money and then maybe sell it on (or keep)
  17. Ooh I saw that when it was for sale - good buy
  18. If it were me I wouldn't go new. Buy wisely secondhand and like WoT says you are less likely to loose money on it.
  19. Congratulations to @Sarah5string for the status update status update 🤘

  20. As you’ve obviously carefully chosen the parts what made you choose Electrolytic over tantalum like the early rays used?
  21. Agree totally - I find too many options and switches takes the joy away for me. Ild rather a bass does one good thing well than 20 meh things. I also find that having too many basses leaves me parallelised with choice too much
  22. won't tape fade/yellow over time? I've used waterslide paper in the past, just print directly on... https://www.musikding.de/Decal-for-laser-printers-108x139cm
  23. I realised I didn’t say a massive thank you!
  24. Life’s too short, let it go. or alternatively if life isn’t too short the world is crying out for more of your opinions on barefaced gear again.
  25. pretty much 60% of YouTube adverts I get served are Scott Devine. I did find it annoying till I considered what the alternative adverts would be... he's alright - plus he lives next village to me!
