But there’s something about the production of it that doesn’t match the lyrics - I don’t know how to explain it - also having looked up the lyrics I think the Trite illustration of the content of the video massively makes the lyrics seem trite. Listened to without the video it’s a lot better. but it’s the best video featuring children’s TV set since that Radiohead one (also a comment on the state of the world) - I’m guess thst one doesn’t get played by many wedding bands though?

Or the “stadium rock ready” version of Mumford and sons

I've just found this bass on your website... it looks amazing ... what do all the knobs do? there's like extra wood ones beneath the bridge?
-
I took that as the switch below. This is @EBS_freak so it will be some fiendishly clever integrated solution for something.... maybe it raises and lowers his bass riser?
-
I'm guessing you don't have the stomp yet .... the power input on the Stomp is marked 9V DC 3A - centre negative. It doesn't look like anything on that will give 3A

and what's the secret little black knob do? Is that the encoder to send midi signals to turn both your and the guitarists effect to the next snapshot, the light show to move on and also the smoke machine to turn on?

There are electrical differences too - two volumes uses two 250k Ohm (or whatever value) pots... a blend control uses three 250 Ohm tracks (in two pots). The pots at 100% in the centre are labelled MN One of the main selling points of some of John East's preamps is he uses active buffered blend so each pickup isn't effecting the other.

What did you order?

I think it's been one of those things where the basses with the emotional attachment to have been replaced by something else. By the time they have been sitting in unplayed for a year or so, objectively unless I want to own lots of basses, I may as well let them go someplace else. Or in the case of a couple I've let go, the bass the cash allowed me to get was far more valuable than the emotional value of the bass to me.

A very very late new bass day...and first foray into fives

My J bass is 36mm nut, the 5 string has a 46mm nut. Previously I’ve played 44mm P basses so the top of the neck doesn’t feel offensively wide. my uneducated view is that I have found that if you focus on using a Good left hand technique, thumb in the centre of the back of the neck and not having anything strained you should be ok. I also use a variation of sliding thumb, there is a muting learning curve still -

I think I'm lucky in that my 5 string has about the same string spacing at the nut and bridge as a 4 string, so feel wise it's ok, so the only times I get really messed up is when I over think not thinking about it. I think I've probably started thinking about the lines I know how to play loads based on the G string down, rather than the E string up. -

Update from me. this week I tried to learn a new song. It took me a while as I’m so out of practice. oddly I found it as easy to practice it on the 5 string as the four. (The Odd low C instead of F excepted) i don’t know if I’m a “5 string player” yet, I can now move interchangeably from one to other, i will play across the strings a bit more on the 5. Lockdown and staying at home with no playing means I’ve practiced on it more and not had the “arghhh fingers strings WTF” moments mid song that would have put me off. I guess I’m now adequately mediocre on both four and five strings. If anything it’s how this particular instrument sounds that I like, it’s so fat and loud sounding. -
I’ve had one a year and a half. Jury is still out but it’s growing on me

and @Booga13 - you should defiantly buy it!

it's a BB1200 - an early 1977 one. I had one and it just had Ymaha and no model number on the headstock

is the Yamaha DT250 a bike?

My life is far too short to get into pedals. Its like one of those games they play at Games Workshop - looks like it would be fun but it's going to take over your life
-
I’m not sure about that - but I think there’s probably a link between blokes of a certain age and certain bracket of disposable income getting into things in a certain way - could be fishing rods, hifi, golf clubs, road bikes or basses. Then the marketing is good enough for enough of us to buy into the upsell...

SVL?

to be fair half of that statement is a relatively new!
-
I made the money saving realisation a while back that the 'I want a new bass' feeling often coincided with my strings getting old. new strings are cheaper than a new bass!

I am currently dabbling in the world of 5 strings. I have one sat next to me currently. I'm not sure what I make of it. Pretty sure another 5 string isn't the answer to the question! is this the sort of thing you wore for Yamaha bass t-shirt? https://www.ebay.com/itm/New-Yamaha-Short-Sleeve-T-shirt-White-w-Front-Pocket-w-Yamaha-Logo-Back-Bass-/233634030345
