  1. wow what colour?! Please don't say white. Are you swithering on the purple? Green would look nicer with chrome hardware which could save you some money. But a bit of a different statement whipping out a purple bass compared to a green one.
  2. a point of view that has saved you a bundle!
  3. I'm pretty sure there are people on here who play their bass in a new band in order to justify buying the new bass that the new band *of course* demands. And then get another one to put roundwounds on. then the band folds after two practices This poor fella just wanted to organise and look after his tools
  4. As someone sitting waiting for a build that is pretty much ready (though technically it's not a custom build for me in this case) I can say I've expereenced nothing but anticipation and frustrated energy waiting for it. Going into PMT is WAY easier!
  5. I don't think you're the only one! I always find it odd when you find a "I'm getting a build made" thread the amount of things that people focus on that are random aesthetic and not functional... or are led by "ooh this is a cool option I should do this". (or worst when you see people trying to crowd source the specs on a bass forum).
  6. Some of the journey is the trying things too... you might spec the perfect bass, and not know it cos in your head you want to try a stingray or something. So you sell it, buy a stingray and then a year later realise that the stingray dream you had wan't actually what you wanted. (I just borrowed a PreEB for the last couple of weeks to scratch that itch)
  7. Sorry. I’m a millennial so it went over my head.
  8. Waiting list on a Wal is 4 years
  9. considered anodised aluminium?
  10. I see what you're doing - and it looks really good!
  11. I've not seen those Mavericks things for years. Never saw anyone playing on either
  12. Schwartz, Rot ... Gelb??!
  13. I've had a bass with some expensive Nordstands in, and they were very nice. But the concept of pickup winding is so simple I don't really know how much difference there can be between some pickup made in a factory or one made by hand by a one man band.
  14. He’s got a 4 ply one too
  15. I like red basses... and your house looks massive!
  16. He’s not, it’s a really high end preamp, it’s done properly.
  17. live near a shop with Dingwalls - go and try some. Try the stuff you are interested in too. decide for yourself after playing it. Maybe they are right, but if they aren't I doubt they will complain if you go "I tried them, the Stingray 5 was way better, then I found this one secondhand" or something. If they do have problem with that, then maybe they aren't that great ppl to be in a band with.
  18. having read the thread... Did they sit you down and tell you "you need to buy this Dingwall" Or did one of you start a conversation about upgrading the bass you've got and the inner gear nerds in your band thought that some cool Dingwall would be a good idea?
  19. the venue's PA team is more than ok with you lugging in your old amp and 8*10... before taking the DI from your bass, sending to the digital desk through CAT5 cables and then sending it to a rack of class D amps powering Neo loaded arrays/self powered Neo loaded arrays....
  20. What I was going to say
  21. End of 2019 I see a bass advertised that looks nice but discount it as it’s a 5 string. It’s also in the next village from where I work. So my first 5 string. Was really struggling with the preamp (to the point I was going to sell the bass) but liked it enough to try switching in a East Uni pre which transformed it. It just sounds great and for the same level as my Sadowsky metro sounds a lot louder - big wide warm low mids with a lot of harmonic richness coming from the bartolini pickups
  22. ins't it a good thing no one is forcing you to buy this bass then?
