  1. Beautiful colour. Just checking, you’ve got all the paperwork to ship the Brazilian rosewood?
  2. So the next question is... what you building with it?
  3. Is this my old one? I saw it and am tempted to buy it back too!
  4. Anything Yamaha will be quality and good value for money
  5. I would have thought that would have worked quite well soundwise
  6. nutool or something., made in Doncaster I think... but someones stuck a new 240v motor on the back. I needed to drill 30 really accurate holes in a banister - at the time I only had a plug in SDS drill so the argument was that buying that pillar drill for £75 or whatever was worth it as it would still be worth that much when I didn't need it. It's nice though! Putting it in the car was fun, we put the stand in first so it was just behind the drivers seat - hadn't considered the fact that that left most the weight hanging off behind the rear axle ... a very odd drive accross Bradford ensued.
  7. that's actually a really sad story Dr Das pulled it off for Asian Dub Foundation
  8. I got my bench finished yesterday... no clamps though... Upcycling Ikea unit for the drawers
  9. And here starts your career as a YouTuber ...
  10. I’ve done that before. Been miming some crazy flea impression with the bass off....playing with my teeth....“can you turn it down”

Does it sound like a jazz too?
  13. I had come from a indie pop band and had the shocking idea of playing quavers with the odd passing note. That church’s band was not Prepared for that...
  14. The truss rod cover was a very early and very expensive way they designated either custom instruments or ones for special players (eg jack Bruce). It’s a massive slab Of mother of Pearl and goodness knows how much the materials would have cost. so factory fitted early “custom” bass - what we think is custom (we being John me and HP wilfer via email) is the pickups and bridge saddles. it’s a lightweight one, under 9lb as John said and for a short horn one (“I designed it wrong” HPF wilfer told me) it balances well. the tone is amazing, bell like Piano tones which is a bit more open and less compressed that a typical Thumb bass - which makes it a bit more versatile. It was my ultimate dream bass and I only sold it as I was playing my other Warwick more regularly in the band.
  15. Just randomly listened to my old bands recordings for the first time in year. I really want a '57ri precision again.

    1. gjones

      gjones

They do sit nicely in the mix.

  16. I hmm I loved the wood on my old Thumb co incidentally if anyone wants to owns this bass warwickhunt is currently selling it...
  17. "You just need to play the root notes, and only four times per bar."
  18. American brand/maker everyone likes on Talkbass this month is infinitely better than the equivalent brand/maker from the UK
  19. At the start of this, for some reason I got into my head this was a simple clamp you were building!!
  20. And that’s before pedal GAS hits
  21. And then you will add a vt bass Di or equivalent For the Di capability I’ve spent £440 odd already With no connecting cables, no footswitchable drive HX stomp is £470 and will do way more... is smaller and fits in the front of a gig bag...
  22. HX stomp - everything you will need plus - the same for guitar if you need - interface - no need for a pedal board or power supply - by the time you‘be got them, a tuner and 3-4 other pedals it’s probably not even the expensive option.
