  1. Nice - what are the blue and gold p basses? - and still got the Pino?!
  2. I think we’ve got a UK specific problem here. Typically the US has a culture I think of more small scale manufacturing And also a real positive nature to how they speak about things. They tend to be good at promotion. In the UK we are more used to larger scale production and also can tend towards being negative and moaning. So some now producer starts making a bass or cab - in the US there starts being a load of Talkbass buzz and the snowball effect means that there’s enough sales to sustain and let the producer learn and refine. The buzz grows and soon we are importing them over here and raving about them on basschat. here we tend to be more negative and less forgiving about our producers, one bad experience gets spread over basschat for years, constant moaning about handles Etc and we don’t See us in having a role in supporting and encouraging smaller scale Producers in the same way. on price alone I doubt there’s much difference between a £6k Sadowsky and an Overwater costing half that amount. We import boutique pickups or strings from the US despite us having exceptional pickup And string makers here. and so on.
  3. Shall I ask next week what you’re looking for in trade? or would it be easier to wait a few weeks and let @AndyTravis buy it from you and then buy it from him?
  4. So you’ve got a Sadowsky which is kinda a Fender copy, and a Fender copy of a Sadowsky modified Fender?
  5. I don’t believe you. let’s see some pics!
  6. No comment on the bass- but brilliant video - really enjoyed watching!
  7. Artistically you could even make that a trio... The Bends> Ok Computer > Kid A I think Kid A was probably the most musically influential on everything that came after it though (and it hardly sold nothing)
  8. http://orchid-electronics.co.uk their DI box is v good, and not just for the money
  9. Depending on the gig... an Orchid DI box will do everything the sound guy wants... the Eq on the desk is more powerful. I've done that and then ended up with an HX stomp for the amp modelling
  10. my input is that I tend to wear cheap socks. Then a friend won a competition with Bridgedale and won a weekend away for them and us... and a load of socks. They really do make a difference, even just padding around work in normal shoes. obviously few of us are 'just padding around work' at the moment but you get the idea!
  11. BIN price the same, no reserve ... bloody clever idea if it is a new feature. Nice looking bass too shame about the wear of the finish
  12. for some reason I didn't get an email telling me. Are there a lot?
  13. So I'm watching a Tokai jazz on eBay. Not going to buy but at some point stuck it on my watch list. Log into eBay for something else and the seller has sent me an offer with a lower price in it! Not something I've seen before - is it a new feature?
  14. so update on this - a few months on, a few conclusions 5 strings: not life changing, not awful. Switching now from 5 back to 4 the "oh this is simpler" is now mixed with "oh there's not the notes where I want them." Glad I am trying it out! This bass: jury is still out. The instrument itself is amazingly lovely, but not loving either/both the preamp and pickups. I understand why prominent 55-94 player @lowregisterhead had switched them. I find the preamp just a bit annoying. Whereas my two other active bass have a great sound passive and the active lets you tweak that in a nice way this 3 band seems a lot harder to coax nice sounds out of.
  15. It’s just two weeks ago if someone had asked me what basses Andy Travis played I would have been able to give a fairly good guess. I wouldn’t have guessed one Marcus Miller!! (not really bright colour enough for you?!)
  16. surely the one on the right is an interloper who has sneaked in.... is that two Marcus Millers??? Not one, two.
  17. give the seller his due he has apologised in a status update. BTW where in NE UK are you @Mike Rennie? Aberdeenshire?
  18. I got my first 5 string last year. I expected to either hate it, or find it life changing. It's neither. It's an extra string and a few more notes Mine has similar string spacing to my 4s, and I've a reasonable right hand position so I found the change to be really easy. It took a while to work out which string was which without looking but simple enough. Muting strings is a bit more challenging.
