  1. that's probably where I'm kinda at... The Lakland 55-94 is lovely, but a slightly different type of lovely than my other basses. Though the time before last I played it live it fitted in the mix lovellllyy. It's a bit more vintage sounding than my Sadowsky, even with new strings and Sadowsky's strings being years old and pretty dead.
  2. +1 I find this with my Streamer (also Bartolini pups) the amount of tonal differences I can get is outstanding.
  3. It's Lakland's Classic relic series... just with a 20 year waiting list!
  4. No fear- I think if Jaco were alive today he would be out playing Thundercat on a six string bass! The whole way folk on Internet forums self justify their preferences by demening others choices is lame. There are some circumstances where 5's are the instrument of choice isn't there? I imagine if I were doing covers, or theatre gigs, or some whole genre I think 5 string would be the first option wouldn't it? ( Is the plural of genre, genre or genres? ) I'm super lucky to have such a great 5 string to learn on, and part of my "er is this for me" is probably feeling guilty at having a few pretty awesome basses that far surpass my skill level. I guess if I say - 'this is for me' then this 5 should be the first bass I reach for and the first bass to get played out.... but I'm still working out if it is.
  5. I am beginning to think I might be similar. Three months on it’s ok but it’s not really life changing. I guess also almost all the music I would want to play, and every bassist I would want to play like, used 4 strings. hmm, stuff to ponder!
  6. <Edit> Dave Swift's old </Edit> 5 string Sadowsky P anyone? https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass-new-arrival/products/sadowsky-nyc-p5
  7. You mean my old one? what a sound. @4000 if I were you (and seeing you play sat down) keep pestering @warwickhunt till he sells it to you (might take a while)
  8. I would imagine it’s thick enough to be ok. The amount of carbon in the neck seemed a lot!
  9. Try the doctor tonelab stuff - it’s worth it. worth finding the video of how he’s got the patch sounding, some things, compression and envelope filters for example are so dependent on the bass and player so need a fair bit of tweaking to get dialled in
  10. Second time writing on this thread - and while last time it was a bass this time it was some strings. As before a brilliant experience
  11. Just measured my Lakland (USA) and that’s 18-19mm explains why I found it so easy to aw I switch too!
  12. first that's a great price. And you can probably put "No trades" in every other line of your advert and someone will still ask if you would like a trade. It's the nature of the beast as most folks "bass money" is tied up in basses... but anyway good luck with your sale it looks a lovely bass!
  13. This in my book is a classic design small and ergonomic. The original adjustable bridge too is a simple and good design, I love the way the tuners told backwards on two planes too.
  14. What are you after pick guard wise? I went for tort on mine and it was a fraction of the cost to get bass doc make one over here. From memory with shipping and customs it ended. Up over £100
  15. I think I preferred the DR strings, but to be honest I'm listening on laptop so not the best comparison... but more importantly - is that a guitar stand built into a bookcase? genius if so.
  16. It was late, I was tired, I’m not good at spelling and spelling beige was beyond me at that point!! erm no - to my ears the Will Lee is the one I like the sound of the most. It was nice to get the Warwick our again too. I forget how nice it is to play
  17. See I've a theory that people did listen on the phone... and it is the brightest sounding of them too... but now maybe the "warmer" is that classic Warwick growl. The alternative theory is that people listen with their eyes, and don't like Warwicks... but it's a great bass, a lovely 1991 streamer stage 1, Chris at Alpher Instruments sorted the frets for me years back so it plays absolutely amazingly and it's got some brilliant Bart pickups in it. Oddly if I turned the drums off it doesn't sound that good. Sadowsky was without the WL switch engaged. And yes three times. It's the newest and I'm still not 100% about this whole 5 string thing so it was an opportunity to hear how it sounded. Yep, I just need to work out how to play in with the B string!
  18. So for the one person watching (hi @bassfan!) the answers are in the second post. What I wasn't expecting is the Warwick to be the favourite by such a long way!
  19. What settings do you use on it? I need to fiddle with mine as it makes it a bit hissy
  20. As we're snowed under with people guessing I'll stick the answers up tomorrow!
