  1. Maybe the best question would be - I’ve got £800 (or whatever) - show me the best secondhand jazz style you can. (With links) that way you’re going to get folk recomend stuff that’s a wee bit more unusual but good
  2. +1 Don’t automatically presume that more expensive = better. also look on here secondhand too
  3. back when that was made (pre 1989 I think) they didn't have a custom shop... everything was a bit custom shop...
  4. this is a brown bass ... https://www.andybaxterbass.com/collections/music-man-basses/products/1978-music-man-stingray-walnut I also have played it twice and it's one of the most amazing instruments I've ever played. Stunning. So much so you can forgive it it's colour
  5. Possibly - although this morning was mostly spent with Zinser Coverall and this afternoon I'll be taking the little one to a farm I think. I'll do it slow and steady like everyone is suggesting. When I first got it I was having to hit it quite hard with a mallet to slot everything in for a dry fit... a wee bit of sanding later and it dry fits together perfectly without the mallet needing to be in involved. Lightly sanding the shoulders of the rabbets and it gets rid of a lot of the bowing problems - I think a lot of that is due to the CNC cutter seeming to having a very slight angle on the cuts. I honestly think I could slap glue on the joints and do it in one based on how well it fits together and self squares itself.... Slow and steady is recommended though so I'll do that.
  6. Question- and I should know this - As it all slots together is it best to glue the main bit of the cab appart from top and bottom all in one go as it’s self squaring - or do the braces first and let it dry then the sides etc? I’m thinking all in one go (must remember the T nuts! )
  7. Is this your third or fourth CMT100?
  8. @Merton do yourself a favour and keep this one
  9. I use them to send to the PA and go on the basis that the cab sound will fit in the mix better than a clean sound. Having said that the cab collection built in does seem a wee bit like the bass cabs some guitar players would guess bass players want!
  10. I’m tempted to build one (probably myself, not a kit) and maybe just run the driver low passed without a horn ... I only say that because I think it was a suggestion of Stevies - while I say that I have almost zero need for another one
  11. Ild just leave it off if I were you or stick it inside. When we were designing them the front badge was a must, the handle badge a “ooo that would be good” and the back badge an added bonus I convinced Stevie we should do (it took a while to convince him to let me put his name on it)
  12. Loving this thread. I ended up in bed sick at the weekend so didn’t manage to do the decorating-that-should-be-done-before-the-cab ... and felt better this eve... so out I went to my man cave to slightly widen the rabbets with sandpaper - mine were so tight I was having to hit it fairly hard with a mallet to dry fit. Much better now apart from the baffle but I’ll fix that closer the time. I was also intrigued by Stevie recommending using sandpaper rather than a router for the roundover - if you turn it down slow enough and are sensible it cuts with a router.
  13. I was thinking of putting an East Uni-Pre in my Streamer Stage one instead of the ACG pre currently in it... but either way it’s mine!
  14. When I was doing the dry fit I thought that might be a risk of the super tight fit.
  15. 4x 600mm sash clamps for £16? eBay item 133184878318 cheap enough it would be daft for me not to buy them. Think I’ve got everything but the screwfix parts now, and there’s a screwfix 400m away!
  16. Yes it is. Except when the transformer went up in smoke and cost £££ to replace
  17. I've been fairly careful with basses and not lost masses on anything, normally where I can mentally chalk it up as the cost of renting a bass for a few years. Number one expensive gear mistake is the DIY bass I made in my profile picture. I was the second iteration and I ended up spending a fair bit on parts. All in I probably spent double what I would get for it selling it as a bitsa - the worst thing is that it's actually an alright bass - just no where near as nice the other three basses I own. It currently lives in a case ontop of the wardrobe and I've no idea what to do with it! If it helps your reviews on here of the MPulse600 and Walkabout helped me when someone I know let me play his Pulse600 and pair of Walkabouts - I left with a Walkabout, so you probably helped me avoid spending ££ on the MPulse 600. It's not that it's a bad amp, it's just....
  18. Yeah well I know I said I would do the hall project first... dry fit, a wee bit tighter than idea I think but sturdy as anything- well done @stevie - it’s a wonder - and @funkle for this build thread which was helpful in order
  19. Can you believe they were hidden under an old carpet when we moved in? It was only as the inset door mat left a little ridge that I pulled it back and found them shortly after we moved in. Lots of scrubbing, learning how to clean Victorian floor tiles (1860-70 based on the factory details on the back, House is older) and repairing just two small patches. You can see the tools in the background- we are in the middle of one of those mental-when-will-this-finish DIY jobs decorating the hall and landing... it would be simple except the fact that I’ve had to dismantle, restore and rebuild in a more child friendly manner the stair banister... the bass cab build has to be priority two till that is finished
