  1. some of the guys at church had some idea to run the midi out of the keys via a iPad, which got upgraded to a laptop to add extra quality to the sound. However they we'ren't following the @BigRedX checklist of dedicated ideally osX based output and it just wasn't reliable enough or simple enough by a very long way.

Yes a pedalboard with 5 different pedals is simpler - but it's also fairly reliable, and reliability is important.

I was asked to take pics of the innards.

In answer to your question, I think it does. It has a good usable drive, and a very flexible EQ section.

I've used it as a preamp and as a distortion pedal.

@stewblack - I very much appreciate you taking the photos!

Yes not a bad thought - so the bass needs to be a bit more scooped with an acoustic guitar in the mix whereas a low-mid boost works better when it doesn't clash with the guitar - but quite a big change achieved entirely due to EQ which makes me wonder why we spend so much on different amps etc. when the EQ makes the biggest difference - although I suppose that's why everyone has started raving about IEM and ampless setups.

IEM and ampless setups is all about reducing stage noise and letting the FOH do the work without needing to fight against a backline/foldback reflections.

Why do we spend so much on different amp? well with a IEM setup you end up doing the same with preamp/di! What EQ, what compression, how it sounds ....

...tis a mystery... same drummer but only keys plus vocals this week (so not guitar) which certainly gave me more space in the mix. I have a Genzler Magellan preamp pedal that I bought specifically as it has two curve (EQ) presets that you can toggle between, meaning I can sweep them relatively quickly to find what works (perfect for the zero set up time at church). Three weeks ago "Curve A" at 3/4 sounded great, this morning "Curve B" at 3/4 which is a whole different profile seemed to work, along with cutting around 250Hz on my graphic EQ. But no rhyme or reason!

CURVE A (Blue): Provides a variable pre-shaped curve that boosts lows and highs while simultaneously cutting mids. The slopes are fairly gentle which keep the tone shaping very musical. This curve covers a wide range of sounds from flat to classic to modern depending on the position of the independent CURVE A control.

CURVE B (Amber): Provides a variable pre-shaped curve with attenuated high-mids and highs, a low-mid bump, and a slight roll-off of the lowest bass frequencies. Again, the slopes are fairly gentle which keep the tone shaping very musical. This curve is intended to provide sounds in the range of vintage amps and vintage cabinets that do not have tweeters. An independent CURVE B control is provided for this filter.

You took a guitar out the mix- with it the scooped sound gave the guitar space about where a typical dreadnaught resonates , without it you wanted low mids and put the high mids and highs to help the keys ?

Why is it that you can use exactly the same kit in exactly the same place with almost the same number of people in the room on two separate Sundays and it sounds totally different? Luckily I have lots of EQ options to fiddle with but sometimes I just don't get it... humidity, air pressure??

    Caffine?

Kit has just turned up today - Unfortunately minus the BBS enclosure which is on backorder 😢. Hopefully won't be long before it arrives.

In typical German style everything looks top notch, all labelled and bagged into different part types. They've even included pre-cut hookup wire with the insulation part stripped which I haven't seen with a kit before. The PCB itself from Aion looks really nice, well laid out and has a nice satin finish, again a first for me as I've never seen a PCB with that kind of coating.

Might do a little build diary!

BBS the deeper ones? I might have a Hammond one unused somewhere

    There’s two things…

analogue circuits - which you can’t copyright or patent

so fair game for behringer/jhs/joyo/demonFX to copy. In diystompboxes / freestompboxes world some things from smaller makers sometimes get left alone, but then there’s a few pedals out there where the diy community mods then get sold back to people as a “boutique” pedal…

design and trade dress - which is absolutely protectable under eu/uk/us law- where you take the design and copy it. This isn’t cool and where DemonFX probably overstep the line, but there’s a fine line - as Aldi packaging aping the premium brand is on the right side of the line…

counterfit is where the pedal is trying to copy the real thing and be indistinguishable to it - DemonFX aren’t doing that.

Also to be clear I would be uncomfortable having a DemonFX and would want to sand off the Aldi like branding

Thanks to @ezbass looks like the truss Rod cover is in hand.

I know with it being a commemorative model, seems sacrilegious, but it’s just my brain.

awaiting the 2025 gigs to recreate this…

I'm intending to do gear abstinence next year, so unless I can convince the abstinent massive that purchasing what I need to fix things is within the rules, then my JC will be mothballed for 2025 :(

that's stupid - gear abstinence and not mindlessly purchasing things in a GAS fueled capitalist frenzy of consumption is a good thing. Part of that is fixing the things you have.
If you chose to buy less clothes thread to mend your socks would defiantly be allowed.
