  1. Like this one? https://thebassgallery.com/collections/all/products/status-shark-fretless-5-ex-pino-palladino my first bass was the active two pickup four string - but the second edition with the smaller scratchplate
  2. I get the feeling that Jamie may be a lot more famous player than I realised...
  3. Ahh good to hear so of it’s history - explains the black in some of the dings too! the finish is amazing it looks beautiful, it makes me want to get my jazz refinished in a colour that isn’t metallic black. I didn’t really intend to buy it but it had sat in Facebook unbought for about 2-3 weeks, and was in the next village to where I work (I didn’t realise Jamie wasn’t) anyway we met in a pub so I could see it... first impression... whoah that looks good, second impression picking it up and playing - woah this feels so light and natural to play... third Impression - oh a b string I had forgotten it was a 5 string! the preamp settings are really really dependent on the sound of the whole instrument- some of them are awful
  4. Yeah, it's Jamies old one. Goodness knows it's been well played, and shame he had to sell it. What did you end up getting in the end? I'm still getting my head around 5 strings, but the nice thing is that even if I end up not getting on with them I can't ever blame the bass or have that whole "well if I had just had XXX or YYY" I made sound clips of me aiming for a Jazz, a P bass and a stingray sound from it in this thread. It can do a lot!
  5. Some point between 1992 (when I heard they had) to 1995 (when Wikipedia says they did) they moved the factory from Bavaria to Markneukirchen in former East Germany...
  6. My fave tones: 1- Pino 2- Warwick Triumph 3- Moolon J-Classic 4- F Bass (though maybe not on this track) 5- Serek (whatever that is, the darkstared one) or the '66 Jazz Surprised me how much I didn't really love the second P bass at all! Most disliked the Mustang, the Matsumoku short scale and the Stingray- which as has been discussed and isn't the fault of the bass.
  7. that's probably where I'm kinda at... The Lakland 55-94 is lovely, but a slightly different type of lovely than my other basses. Though the time before last I played it live it fitted in the mix lovellllyy. It's a bit more vintage sounding than my Sadowsky, even with new strings and Sadowsky's strings being years old and pretty dead.
  8. +1 I find this with my Streamer (also Bartolini pups) the amount of tonal differences I can get is outstanding.
  9. It's Lakland's Classic relic series... just with a 20 year waiting list!
  10. No fear- I think if Jaco were alive today he would be out playing Thundercat on a six string bass! The whole way folk on Internet forums self justify their preferences by demening others choices is lame. There are some circumstances where 5's are the instrument of choice isn't there? I imagine if I were doing covers, or theatre gigs, or some whole genre I think 5 string would be the first option wouldn't it? ( Is the plural of genre, genre or genres? ) I'm super lucky to have such a great 5 string to learn on, and part of my "er is this for me" is probably feeling guilty at having a few pretty awesome basses that far surpass my skill level. I guess if I say - 'this is for me' then this 5 should be the first bass I reach for and the first bass to get played out.... but I'm still working out if it is.
  11. I am beginning to think I might be similar. Three months on it’s ok but it’s not really life changing. I guess also almost all the music I would want to play, and every bassist I would want to play like, used 4 strings. hmm, stuff to ponder!
  12. <Edit> Dave Swift's old </Edit> 5 string Sadowsky P anyone? https://thebassgallery.com/collections/bass-new-arrival/products/sadowsky-nyc-p5
  13. You mean my old one? what a sound. @4000 if I were you (and seeing you play sat down) keep pestering @warwickhunt till he sells it to you (might take a while)
  14. I would imagine it’s thick enough to be ok. The amount of carbon in the neck seemed a lot!
  15. Try the doctor tonelab stuff - it’s worth it. worth finding the video of how he’s got the patch sounding, some things, compression and envelope filters for example are so dependent on the bass and player so need a fair bit of tweaking to get dialled in
  16. I’m liking this
  17. Second time writing on this thread - and while last time it was a bass this time it was some strings. As before a brilliant experience
  18. Just measured my Lakland (USA) and that’s 18-19mm explains why I found it so easy to aw I switch too!
  19. Nut - that’s what I meant!
  20. first that's a great price. And you can probably put "No trades" in every other line of your advert and someone will still ask if you would like a trade. It's the nature of the beast as most folks "bass money" is tied up in basses... but anyway good luck with your sale it looks a lovely bass!
  21. This in my book is a classic design small and ergonomic. The original adjustable bridge too is a simple and good design, I love the way the tuners told backwards on two planes too.
  22. What are you after pick guard wise? I went for tort on mine and it was a fraction of the cost to get bass doc make one over here. From memory with shipping and customs it ended. Up over £100
