  1. Aye I saw that!
  2. Early Tecamp Puma did, used their Digimod units. Sounded great. I've always thought of it linked to how the amp supplies power, solid state amps with big old capacitors in the power section are better equipped to supply power too to shift big bottom end. With many class D we can see that they have the initial burst power and then it drops off. In theory that's not a problem, but I wonder if it affects the way we perceive it. Mind you I think that's based on design choice rather than topology as the Tecamp Pumas with the powersoft units seemed to be way more low mid biased than some of the other units I've tried with the high mid bias that @Dood just mentioned
  3. So cHambered MDF with alder top and back- makes sense if you’re going for lightweight.
  4. To me too
  5. I used to play at a church with a big old Allen and heath desk and loads of ME1 boxes to set your own personal mix. Quite good. Anyway a year later we’re going to a different church which is much smaller - and they have an smaller Allen and Heath desk and the monitor mix is controlled from your phone via a Qu-you app - this is amazing! Not only do you get to group things and have easy sliders to change volume, but you’ve got master eq and compression for your monitor mix... it’s pretty good and I think simpler to tweak live. Anyway - half relivent to the topic
  6. Dear Doug I have no idea what that all means, but look there's a code tag you can use to keep all your formating!
  7. Well jel
  8. I’ve been renovating my garage and clearing out the previous house owners junk found the remains of a carbon fiber fishing rod - boy is that stuff stiff and light. I started thinking that one could use carbon fiber box sections as a framework to stiffen cab in a lightweight way... but by the time you’ve done that you might as well make the whole cab out of fibreglass composite panels and having enough stiffness that you wouldn’t need much bracing.
  9. But a bit of colour can look so nice.... https://goo.gl/images/KQb5Kq
  10. Natural or with a colour stain?
  11. How do I never find these ebay auctions!
  12. I for one have appreciated your input
  13. 12cm on the width then. My take would depend on How narrow the stairs are. If wide enough I would build the tried, tested and measured simplex design and invest in some good handles. If narrow I wouldn’t. I had a lovely GK combo for a while but it was literally was the width of the staircase and had no room for your hands.
  14. How much off is the simplexx size wise for what you need to do? The beauty in using a design someone’s already done is that you can build it and never need to think about port end correction, or baffle step or anything like that...
  15. What’s the mechanics behind it and being able to quantify it? I’ve read so many cab build design threads and never seen people discuss calculating it. Like the 2/3 of ‘dead weight’ plywood on the spinning Barefaced model I’ve always took as how they have engineered in using 9mm panels
  16. Approach 4 is to make it out of composite fibreglass and it will be rigid enough not to need much or any bracing...
  17. I think there seems to be a few different approaches I've seen to how bracing is used. Approach 1 is like Fearful cabs, where they use 12mm ply and then use the splines to stiffen individual panels. Which are then joined. Logic I think being that the panels themselves are braced and you're making up for the lost 3mm of thickness vs 15mm. It makes me think of an acoustic guitar top but less scallops... Approach 2 is like I think I've seen you recommend in the past where braces run from opposing panel to opposing panel. I've seen dowels used in that kinda thing before. Simplex, and Mesa use the corner ports as bracing too. Approach 3 is when you go a bit crazy, build some matrix structure, a shelf port too and can use 9mm ply. This should be an image of someones fearful build (found here: http://www.sumitdas.net/fEARful_build1/) This should be a simplex 210 (designed by bill) and found on a random site: Barefaced bracing
  18. I have a Zoom B3n I typically don't use much in the way of effects. But do use compression and the amp and cab sims. My only gripe about the B3n is how difficult I find it to set everything for unity gain in my patches. (Mind you I probably end up adding way more than I need to patches 'just in case' so it's not like it's a 3 block patch) (Why don't more of these boxes have some kind of visual signal monitoring like a digital desk?) Based on that kinda use... worth the extra you think?
  19. So erm my wife is my favourite person in the world, and she is generally ok with my “I’ve just spent our money on something from a guy on basschat, oh and I’m going to take half the weekend driving half the country to pick it up”... she’s great. however I explained to her what I was thinking of doing and she had a fairly strong reaction about liking this amp (see the title wasn’t a lie) and also pointing out that our house might not be big enough for my plan... so I need to think this one through - I’ll be asking a mod to lock this thread shortly for now...
  20. quote of the year!
  21. @Rick's Fine '52 would be the resident expert on a quick view on things like this I would have thought. Vintage Ferrule expert that he is!
  22. Maybe? I think the cab has been around basschat a bit @Oldman and @TPJ I think have owned it. I was supposed to be selling a combo to mark at old chapel in Leeds @mark_ir and he let me have a try of a whole pile of amps and cabs they have there, including a Mesa m-pulse 600 and two walkabout heads - I ended up giving him money and taking this home with the head I preferred the sound of.... I’m almost talking myself out of selling it here.
  23. @Warwick_Official still post in here? They should know
  24. Oh and I’ve got the original Mesa cover too
  25. SO one of those threads where I'm floating it out there to see if there's any interest in an item because I've got GAS for something else. To be honest I'm not 100% about selling this as I love the thing, but thought it's worth trying. So what is it? Only one of the most iconic bass amps from the last 20 years, small, compact but packing a punch of old school solid state tone, with it's big old valvey sound. It's a really early one. Go look at the threads on Talkbass and you'll find chat about the older ones being brighter sounding than the later ones. The early ones were also unofficially stable at 2 ohms. (But obviously if you need something that runs at 2 ohms, read up on it as it's officially 4 ohms min) Amp rated at 300w solid state watts at 4 ohms. I had a problem with it a year or so ago, and the power transformer melted. The original Mesa Czech made transformer was replaced with a official Mesa USA made part but Mesa's authorised tech in my part of the world. (not cheap) - but it means it was serviced within the last two years. Oh yeah, it's got a late 50's or early 60's Philips ECC83 in valve position 1. I got it and it sounded way nicer than the stock Mesa valve so it stayed in there. If anyone wants me too I can open it up and check what it is. And this one has a lovely green cab, with basket grill, and brown leather handle and corners. I can actually leave this in the front room and not get complaints cos it looks classy. Compact enough it will take up half the boot of a Mk7 Golf and fit under the parcel shelf. Price includes UK postage/delivery etc. If you're outside the UK delivery costs will vary obviously. Probably not feasible to post outwith the EU. Offers will be listened too; Trade offers... well I have plans for what I would replace this with but sometimes Basschat trade offers are where the exciting discoveries are found...
