  1. There's reasons for that though. To patent a shape of a body etc in the USA (and I think we're actually talking about trademarking) you have to demonstrate that it is unique to your design and that you have made efforts to protect the IP for whatever you want to patent. So by the time Fender (CBS or whoever owned them then) tried to trademark the shape of their guitars it was determined that they hadn't tried to protect them previously and that they had become 'generic'. The headstock they could trademark... Conversely Rickenbacker were able to show they had made steps to protect the shape of the body and headstock of their instruments.- so they could protect them. One of the consequence is that to keep them protected they have to show that they are continuously making steps to stop people using their trademarks fraudulently.... hence why they have to threaten small bass forums in the UK......
  2. You would have liked I think
  3. Did you try @owens Felix at the bass bash?
  4. Nope - blocked as unsafe
  5. My phone flags up a warning for that link
  6. I got my UE 900s what only 2 years back, and got a good deal with them at about £100 or so... it's crazy to see how much the initial cost barrier to entry has dropped and something half good costs less than a set of decent strings now.
  7. Happened to me... pet hate is that "what's your best price" question... almost as if I didn't put an advert up with what my best price is. I flat out refuse to negotiate on price if asked that question. Had a guy buy a bass off me... spent ages trying to talk me down, got it and it was on eBay within a couple of days.
  8. Plus people don't take into account that that 20% of the new cost was VAT anyway...
  9. Not comment on any noise of otherwise, badly worded question wondering why you use that model with its tone off.
  10. So I’ve played with the Avalon with tone off on my B3n and after a while couldn’t work out what it was doing to the signal compared to not having it on
  11. This is the least basschat thread ever... ”you know the thousands you spent on your pedal board” ”yep, I replaced it with a big multi fx board - it’s amazing” ”I m thinking of getting the small stomp box version of your big multi fx board as I hear it’s amazing” ”oh it is amazing, it sounds great” ”that what you use?” ”nah, check out this £60 Zoom pedal, tbh I don’t need anything else”
  12. The what? I’ve only ever known 7
  13. I'm 5 years older than my wife. When we first started going out I she went to live in Berlin for a year (not because she had just met me) - I started telling her excitedly about one of my first memories ever of watching the Berlin Wall come down on Newsround on the TV and how exciting I found it even though I had no idea what was going on.... "can you remember?" "do you remember?" I asked.... ... "er I wasn't born then" was the reply
  14. yeah but the 80's way almost three decades ago now.
  15. It’s odd how so many of the “treasures of the future” are essentially either from the 80s, designed in the 80s or builders who started in the 80s
  16. Conversely your job as a bass player isn’t to f up to he mix by fiddling with your feed to the FOH - that would be amateur
  17. Obviously the suggestion to clean the jack sockets was a separate one to opening it up, not some ceremony to be performed before you open the amp up!
  18. Sometimes switched jacks can get corroded and not register correctly leaving an open. Not promising it will work in this case, probably won’t if hitting it reconnects the signal but another thing to rule out as the cause....
  19. how has this one not sold yet?
  20. plug and unplug jacks into the effect loop input and output many times... then open it up and check nothing has shaken loose. If that's no good and it's going in the bin I'll have it!
  21. +1 (Though some of the tiny 15w bass amps can be a wee bit depressing to play through)
  22. Conversely IME selling on basschat is harder but if you’re open to trades you get offered some really nice gear
  23. Prefere the sound of the B3n but the function and features of the B3
  24. If you’re not going to play in public for a while something like a zoom multi fx pedal would be a cheap way of giving you more sounds and tones. New strings are nice too if your sound sounds dull. If you want to get playing with people, then a secondhand rig from here would be good. Combo or head and cab is your choice based on how much you have to spend and if you want to carry bigger heavy things- there’s some good gear at low prices in the amps for sale forum at the moment - it all depends on what’s around for sale near you.
  25. Gus - I think the further from Leo fender we get the more we will appreciate the designs. Mind you apart from seeing a photo of @BigRedX with one, and prince I’ve never seen one in real life.
