Here's a question: When I was looking a few years back at using a PA speaker as a bass amp and cab there was only one downside at the time... In PA world the bottom end would normally be crossed over to a sub, so they weren't designed to have as much lows as a more specialist bass cab does. This matters very little if you've got PA support (actually a good thing) but meant that the way they were designed wasn't nesserally a direct like for like substitution for a bass cab.... Is this still the case with the RCF and QSC speakers you're talking about, and which ones, (I guess the bigger ones are fine.)

Out of interest.... what modelling amp/pedal/preamps would you recommend? Both the mega buck end right down to cheapies....

if you need a stopgap while it's being made the Ciatlinbread SFT is worth a look....

by all means everyone go and spend on nice stuff... but I'm no longer convinced that for much of what we do as bass players, the technology that is commonly used is the best for the job.... and I think I've seen too many bands pink torpedo up their own sound cos they don't know what they are doing.... YMMV

I think it's crazy that folk will go drop £1k on a wonder cab to go with their £1k amp ... but then IEM or good wedges are too much... I almost went that way last time but if I ever change my amp again I think something like the setup the OP has is the way I will go.

Why not try it and find out? I mean like all engineering, maths and understanding how things work are optional extras aren't they?

Nice necks JVs - but seriously if you had a mint, big fender, small squier logo export one then that's probably worth a bit .... because there's not many of them and some folk collect rare stuff. later ones - nah not so bothered. modded later ones... not worth silly money. Mind you when I first joined this site the common thought was that you avoided 70s gender cos they were rubbish (except @wateroftyne who would say his '71 ones were the last good ones and they were sunburst so better anyway) now look at the price they make!!!

I only just saw this but thought the same - the transformer on my one has blown so the spare could be useful. BUT the repair guy I took mine too today said if the amplifier board has gone mesa send the whole board, FETs heatsink and all rather than replace one or two parts. (if mine has gone as well and the tranny then It will probably be uneconomical for me to repair)

I've just taken my broken amp into the repair man to see if it's econmical to fix. if it's not I might end up going to something like this and a preamp instead. Fingers crossed its fixable though cos I don't have the money for a new rig at the moment!

Every Fender Jazz bass I've owned, and I've tried a few... Sound brilliant Look even better Love the sound... Play in a band with them and I'm like, "argh where's that nice sound gone?" I want to love them, but can't

I had a really early JV which was all original other than the pickup had been switched for a Seymour SPB-1 or whatever they are called. Managed to pick up an original JV pup complete with the raised A pole pieces - it made the bass "all original" But.... I much preferred the Seymour pups and regretted swapping them, the JV were slightly more vintage sounding but the seymours were far far better sitting in a mix

300 odd quid for a replacement tranny ... plus a tech to fit it .... ouch

[/quote] I took the cover off and found the transformer was still hot three hours after I had turned it off ... and that the transformer seems to be leaking stuff

The transformer on my walkabout went pop this morning any idea where to get a replacement?

it's got an odd sound this one - a naturally scooped mid sound hmm
