1.
I know, sin car isn't the best but I hope to learn. For now I need a small lightweight no I can lug on/off buses and trains.. I understand some sacrifice is needed in power output, so if I could find a 300/400W single driver lightweight solution that would be great.
it's not the power in specs that are of interest- it's the amount of volume that the cab can give out with that power....
 2.
My memory of the 80s is that Tokai was the brand that finally pushed Fender into the arms of Japanese manufacturers. I think the first Squires are actually re-bedged Tokais. In other words, 80s Tokais are actually early MIJ Fenders. P
Fender Japan was from the greco factory - not tokai
 3.
Heresy! Burn him! Burn the witch!
Only if your cabs weigh more than a duck!
 4. I loved this bass. Does it still have the agiular circuit - just I think it had quite a rare/expensive Fishman voltage doubler on the power clip.
 5.
It depends on if you want one big cab or some smaller ones? And how loud you need to go. Walkabout into one Two10 won't be exactly quiet!
Something to try then!
From the logical engineering perspective I thought we'd solved most bass guitar amplification challenges as well as can be expected - but if there are more unsolved ones then I'd like to know and I'll see what I can suggest!
from an engineering perspective maybe - but it's the design problems out there that are interesting. If I had the $$ a powered cab with DSP and a couple of preamps for it would possibly be the way I would go
 6. the 4x12 you mentioned sounds interesting. out of interest... if you had a mesa walkabout... 300w at 4ohms, 160w or so at 8 ohms, can push it to 2ohms if needed... which barefaced would you suggest? the retro 610? two retro210. It might be as interesting to ask peoples problems and see if there is a barefacedsolution to them (which gives you more engineering latitude than folk predetermining that they want a certain size driver or so on)
 7. 250k you're sticking the pot in the pickup side of the preamp- after your blend pot, it's going to be a variable resistor going to earth, your signal from that will then going into the preamp and straight out to the jack.
 8. This one... powersoft digimod amp module. Big warm tight bottom end. Think clean valve amp tonewise The new one icepower amp module (like most other bass amps) tighter bottom end - more like markbass but with a better sound further up the spectrum.
 9.
Sure you're correct but just want to confirm that the amp is definitely 500w into 4ohm minimum and not 2ohm into each channel . The only one I can find on tecamps website says 500w into 2ohms and 350 into 4ohms. Cheers.
its the powersoft version so sounds nicer and is 4 ohms min per channel or 1000w into 8ohms if bridged. Will has it going into a single fearful cab for pretty much the ultimate rig!
 10. I find that the input on whatever amp makes a big difference. Some amps don't like active basses as much I've found.
 11. I know she said you were up for a swap of something or the other. Good if you to drive all that way too!
 12.
You could always sell the Walkabout
that would be a fun one to convince the wife of... so you know how I had all the different bass amp 'boxes'? Yes and I sold them and got that one small one? Yes the green one that looks pretty and is small and light? Yes... well im selling that to try and get something else. oh is it cheaper? No Is it lighter? No Smaller? No... so when youve done that is that all you need? Er no then you need a preamp didnt you have one of them to start with? Er yes.
 13. second time today I've posted "I could have bought that if it were on the market before I got my Walkabout!"
 14.
Yes I do but I can't discuss that here or else I'll break the house rules. The final price is £1250, if you can give me that before Tuesday then it yours!
aww shucks I could have stretched to that a couple of months ago before I got my walkabout.
 15.
I have to agree with RhysP... what can you get for £400 used; likely as not a better combo.
Warwickhunt and I would tell you the GK RB series combos are pretty awesome
 16.
Too loud. Unnecessary!
I dinnae mean that! I meant from each other. The matamp looks nice
 17.
Get hold of one of the older Barefaced Vintage 2x15s if you can, they are nice and wide, and sound excellent! I think yours is the super15, so the vintage is wider -
go on - give us a wee description of how those three cabs sound...
 18. I would have thought getting hold of darkstars was a bigger problem than the body!
 19.
Good points. The typeface for the controls will changed to a uniform style and size. The control spacing will be equal too, I just need to play around with the control names a bit as the longer names screw with the spacing. The Can'd Heat' is an abreviation of the place I live and I thought it fun in a Lynyrd Skynyrd kind of way. If I keep it, the font will change. As for the mute switch, you have caught me out. Front panel mute is part of the design but I forgot to include it on the drawings. I like all three colours in different ways and will try the black one first as my laser printer is monochrome. However I can get the red and orange printed at Staples for about £1
Looks good - the only other thought I had was.... If the jack inputs should go on the bottom level - that war the sticky out bit of the jack doesn't get in the way of the controls and you have more space across the top to mount controls. ?
