1. The ECC82 was nice too, but obviously I had to crank the gain to get the same volume out which wasn't ideal.
 2. Yay NPAVD that's New Preamp Valve Day! So for a while I've had a Mesa walkabout - love it. And been kinda interested in what other tubes would sound like in it ... but put off by the sometimes silly prices old valves go for... anyway saw someone selling untested NOS valves on eBay and thought why not... ended up getting two - an ECC83 and a ECC82 - I know I don't have a use for the ECC82 and don't know what I'll do with it... but... Left to right... Telefunken ECC82 (probably actually made by siemens as no diamond on the bottom?) if the code is correct made June 1953 the Mesa 12ax7a pulled out the amp... Phillips Miniwatt Ecc83 from the 3rd Week of April 1969 I think. First off - I bought these not knowing what really they were... and not knowing if they work... they do, and I think I've worked out what they are... but I've no idea if they are any good as old valves go... Obv. the Telefunken isn't the right valve for the Walkabout, I put it in to see if it works (it does) but the Phillips is amazing - first off it both valves look like they've been built in the future compared to the crude looking modern valve. It's hard to describe how it sounds different - it's clearer sounding, the attack is punchier, and most of all the high mids are a lot lot softer. There seems to be more harmonic stuff going on, it sounds more musical whereas before it was angular and harsh. So all in all a good punt!

 4. Soul funk and motown type stuff rather than kings of leon covers it what i meant...
 5. Typing quickly while at work... so that may not have made the most sense
 6. Soul dancy function bands.... pro quality for corp event. .. any recomendations to add to list?
 7. I was in kirkliston this weekend - doh
 8.
Its coming home with me this Sunday, can't wait!
good! Im currently about ten miles away for the weekend and was likely to get in trouble with the wife
 9.
.... the only possible change I might make to mine would be to have it headless but it would be sacrilege to do that to it now. Just means that if/when I sell the Ritter I have to resist not commissioning one. I highly recommend them and believe that they're very underestimated. If you haven't already tried one - you should.
I think 2-3 times I almost bought that bass.... and then you come along teasing me by flashing photos of it....

 12.
I have a Mesa walk about for sale including combo and ext cab over in the amps/ cabs for sale section..... A snip compared to this price An absolute mini mister of a rig
I know I keep looking at it and wondering what a 2x15 walkabout sounds like!
 13.
After owning the T90 for about a year and using it it various situations I'm still impressed. Ive done +5000 venues with it and it kicks some serious s*#t. I don't think Ive even had it past 3 or 4 on the volume. Its way louder than my fender baseman 100 was for sure. ANd the DI is Great BTW!
What cabs are you using it with. Plus 5000 venues in a year is seriously impressive - what's that 13 gigs a day?!
 14.
On hold pending pickup
thankfully!
 15.
There's been a long standing discussion about the 12" version being preferable to the 15". I've owned both and whilst slightly different, I think 'better' is not a word that comes into the discussion, it's more of a horses-for-courses issue really. I would certainly think very carefully before you traded one for the other, because whatever the reason for letting the 15" go, that reason would almost certainly still apply to the 12", unless it's a non-musical thing such as the former won't fit into your car boot but the latter will
briefly what are the horses and courses?
 16.
That's your starter Luke, kiss goodbye to the green goddess
wasnt what i was thinking!
 17.
I'm seriously questioning what I am doing here..... Would trade for Mesa walk about 12" version .....
i would concur - what are you doing?!
 18. I used to get paid to go to gigs as a student... so I saw a lot of live music. Generally I would make sure I caught the bands, whatever the genre... Fightstar however I went into the basement of the venue and sat with my fingers in my ears till they finished.
 19. It's japanese, probably fender, rebadged. From the auction we have no way of knowing if it's domestic market stuff, or the more desirable export stuff. If I had an early JV but someone had changed the logo I would be letting people know it's a JV00xxx serial - that the seller isn't, and the winding on the tuners would make me seriously doubt it's a 1982. My guess would be a later export JV at best. If it's a good bass it's a good bass- but it's not going to be some vintage collectable bass with the value to match - so if you're buying it on the basis that it's a good bass to play that's fine - if you're after a cheap way of getting a collectable and or nice bass - there's more interesting basses out there in that price bracket IMO (speaking as a former JV owner who loves them!)
 20. Glockenklang
 21. I quite like the looks - the T bass was first bass I had GAS for - never actually played one mind!
 22. Please someone before I drive up that way....
 23. I did that - planned to learn guitar - got a guitar... and never felt like I used it/played it. So I sold it... and missed having it around so went and bought another one.
 24.
Another benefit that occurs to me of going with rounded ports is that altering the cabinet volume becomes a lot easier than with a slot port. It should be a fairly simple job to recalculate the port lengths for a (slightly) smaller box using the usual free software.
That was what I was thinking... if the the plans were for 18mm and someone bought 15mm ply then it's a relatively simple set of calculations with tube posts - with a shelf port it's way more complex....
 25.
Yes, the 18mm slotted which is the green one on the graph. Stevie's initial thought was that it was the driver, since the volume of the box and the tuning were the same. It now looks like it is something about the box which is creating the resonance. Frustrating but I'm glad we found it before publishing the design. We are investigating..... I'm hoping it is something simple.
forgive me for daftness - and maybe it's something simple - but maybe the ports and 15mm are a better method of construction? (and lighter)
