1.
Nobody here ever seen a GB Rumour then??? Not only beautiful but well balanced and superb tones...probably why you don't see too many used examples for sale.. Put Bernie Goodfellow's name up there...
great looking bass... but for folk like me who are too young to have been around when they were in fashion... can you explain what's so great about them? And what does Bernie do that pushes the design of bass forward beyond Alembic which to my eyes it follows?
As much as some of it might be minor innovation, I still think the EBMM company as a whole are like no other bass/guitar company in that they: - Don't just mass produce - virtually everything is ordered by a customer; - They attempt to make everything in house; - They try new ideas, all the time, and their electronics are, IMO, faultless. E.g., Bongo 4 band EQ, neo pups in the Bongo/Big Al, crazy switching on the Big Al/Reflex, and the Gamechanger bass; - Ergonomics - they just 'work'...; - Bongo bass shape and overall idea - pushing the boundaries and still pleasing a lot of players despite the shape and style; - Truss rod wheel. Every bass should have this; - Never letting things stay stale; - Armada Guitar and Majesty Guitar.....
I'll give you the Bongo... though perhaps BMW should take credit for that one, but I'm not sure the rest of it is innovation in bass design (beyond what Leo did while there) more than a very good business plan and attempts to try the odd new thing out.
Michael Pedulla - for his buzz basses, beautiful and distinctive. The necks on his instruments are amazing.
I've seen Pedulla's for sale, was offered one in a trade once even... know very little about them - care to elaborate a bit more about them please?
 2.
Going to head down there this morning. Just in case. You guys are no help with GAS btw
we want photos!
 3. The main place I play at the mo has gone all in ear, with our own mixes. It's good - and I did wonder when buying my last cab if a decent set of IEM would have been a better buy. The thing I would be worried about is then not being able to pick up other gigs where IEM isn't an option.
 4.
I can feel a visit to PMT happening early next week.
I might go have a look at your new bass tomorrow. BTW if you ring them they might put it to one side for you.
 5.
Dingus - it is a 2012 spec one with the CS pups. As I say, I didn't give it a full inspection but it looked pristine. And their sales price is the same as everyone's online. Doesn't look like there are any bargains to be had outside haggling. But then I like a good haggle.
ermm... I'm going to throw a curve ball at you you might not have factored in. Firstly PMT leeds, it aint a bad shop so I doubt you'll get bad service, they have a wee bit of flexibility on prices when I've asked about things... if how long it's been on the wall bothers you (it would be of no issue at all to me) then they seem to have a fairly quick turnaround. secondly... Fender basses (in my experience and opinion, and as reflected by the view of a fair few folk who write on forums like this) are fairly inconsistent in terms of sound, feel fit and finish. What I take this to mean in practice is that if you want consistency get a sadowsky or something... but while there are a fair few uninspiring and dead sounding Fenders out there (in all the ranges) if, when you find a good one.... my word it will be good. So if you've found a good one... that fits you... then don't expect the same model from bass direct or gear4music or whoever to be the same bass. If you've found a good one - jump on it!
 6.
My EBS fafner after not being used for what seems like years was brought to life the other day. Scratchy pots galore. Cleaned with switch cleaner but still some of the pots need some attention. Broken xlr output.. This must of happen when I moved house as I've found the bits inside the rack case.. It's just the clip on the top that's broken off. Still a fantastic amp and I would love for it to have a service as I haven't the time or the inclination to start messing with it. I live near Leeds, West Yorkshire... Does anyone know of anyone who might be able to help. Found quite a few hifi repair specialist near by and wonder if they might be able to assist. Many thanks from a guilty owner. Ben
I've seen the guys at Northern Guitars on Call Lane move a bundle of amps around to get serviced, no idea if they are any good but I know they do amp servicing. But.... the Fafner's supposed to be a great amp - if it's sat around not being played much what on earth do you use as your main amp!!!
 7. too many drugs and ebay on the mobile?
 8. look in the accessories and misc forum - theres been a few threads on the subject that may help ya
 9. arrghh you've kick started my wanna-build-something-and-cabs-would-be-good-GAS! Few questions... why did you choose the 3012lf over the 3012ho? and convince me I don't need to make one of these!
 10.
Cheers Bassman 7755. xgsjx- I'm currently running a 650watt rated amp through these cabs and it is sometimes a struggle to hear myself above the drummer and our 2 guitarists in what is quite a small rehearsal space. I'm just guessing that 2x185watts will struggle a bit. I don't tend to go above half volume on my current amp though so we'll see. I'm also guessing that the stereo power of the amp at 8ohms won't have enough oomph to get the best out of the cabs I currently have. Again, until I actually try it out I won't know. Wanted to check the bridged daisy chained operation for safety more than anything else.
I think the volume would more likely be limited by the cabs than the amp, try it you may be fine! (the H&K cabs?) if it doesn't work out and you wanna see if chucking more power at it.... I think you're only across the pennines, and for some reason I've got two rigs still (mate, oh I deff want to buy that off you at your low low mates rates, ill get in touch.... months later....!) if you wanted borrow my Ashdown APM1000 it chucks out 500w per side into 4 ohms. The other alternative is tell the guitarists to turn down a bit!
 11. (I realise it wasn't called the cricket bat, but I don't know what it was called!)
 12. So I've been thinking... The Greatest Bass Designer of All time.... Leo Fender, possibly unanimously - even if you don't like them the Precision, Jazz, Stingray, L1000, L2000 et al have pretty much defined the electric bass.... so that's part one done. So who's the second on the list? My suggestion... Ned Steinburger, The old cricket bat, headless composite... the Spector NS (as copied in Warwick's Streamer), his EUB and the lovely radius. discuss!
 13.
I'm having similar thoughts at the moment - do you keep gear that isn't getting played (well, on rotation) or do you move it on so that somebody else gets to put it to use?? I'm not sure when to start with downsizing my collection as I love all my gear for different reasons...I'm sure it must be the same for many other BCers.
what would happen to secondhand prices if we all started downsizing??! prices are odd at the moment - we've already had Genz and now TC do massive price cuts on their new stuff.... are not enough people buying bass gear at the moment?
 14. If i were you... sell the big rig if you can - or at least the cab.
 15. speaker leads... as in the ones between a amp and speaker.... not needed with powered speakers...
 16. are they a regular around here, check their feedback talk to them, get an opionion of them, not just what's the precision like, but what kinda music they play, what bands etc... not only will you find more about them but it's friendly and you might make a friend.
 17.
good thoughts guys, i gues s i am a collector of beutiful things, only reason is to let someone else enjoty the ones that im not playing :-)
guess that's the thing- If you can find someone that want's something you're thinking of moving on and you could use the money for something else then, I guess that's a nice sale. Otherwise the long drawn out tooth extraction of bumping a sales thread, fighting off tyre kickers and trying to find THAT buyer who both wants the bass, has the funds to play for it and doesn't live in outer mongolia or wherever.... I take the view that the stuff I've got now is pretty good- most the stuff won't be moving but the few things that I wouldn't be utterly opposed to moving on I would only do if the trade or money from a sale could be used for something else better. So unless you're wanting to get an upright, your dream sei, a veryreasonablypricedHellborgpreampinthesalessectionsuitsyousir or something specific then i don't think you gain much from culling for culling's sake.
 18. what dingus said. very very low price for this!
 19.
I'm a bit late to this one. Like the specs on the bass. The therapist in me looks at the facing wood and wants to ask the question; "what picture do you see in that"?
If you follow Alpher on Facebook that game seems to be played a lot!
 20. I like Warwicks Artisan - was going to ask how it compared to mine (based on a super fast trial you had!)
 21.
You could say the cost of having it delivered is the price you pay for buying something without trying it first... I don't think there's any 'should I, shouldn't I?' argument, it'll sell for whatever it's worth. Whoever buys it won't know (or care) what you paid for it. I bought a little Vox T-25 combo a little while back from eBay. I paid £54 iirc, and collected it from the guys house as it was 'sort-of' on the way home. I sold it recently for £100 + postage, having decided on a whim that I wanted something LOUDER! Result. I was very very happy indeed to sell it for more than I had paid. I advertised it honestly, presented it neatly and it found it's own value.
The Vox T-25 was my first ever amp - bought it brand new at £90 or so from sound control - when I went to move it on I found it going secondhand for £150 on ebay! odd item! I gave it to a mate as a wedding present in the end.
 22. doesn't the SVT preamp have about 7 valves in it? how they fit all them and a power amp in there? Caitlinbread SFT is quite a good little (solid state) version of the SVT
 23. The thing about Carvin is that is you look at the prices in US dollars and they are very competitive... look at the prices over here and they cost a bomb. Pick something of their's and google the model name- the top hit tends to be the American page- look at google's cache of the page and you get to see the US prices.
 24. someone paid the postage! 300 including postage would be a bit cheaper if you picked it up. even if it wasnt for the cheap price of postage you get to try something out. imo creeping the price up to cover the postage cost is a bit cheap.
