for the stupid amongst us.... what's tension bracing? I've seen a few types of cab bracing around. I don't know the proper names! Fearful seem to favour using wood on the panels to stiffen it - a bit like a acoustic guitar top. Bill Fitzmaurice seems to advise a grid of dowels pushing out, I think Andy at ACME does similar. And Barefaced seem to (possibly) use some simple matrix type bracing.
I have found that Warwicks favour nickel rather than steel strings, for me it seems to bring out the characteristics of the Warwick tone best. I have used Dr, D'addario and Dunlop strings to great effect.
Kev... you've had a fair few people agree with this... and warwickhunt too also used nickels.... can you expand why you find they work well with 'wicks? Just I'm going string shopping soon and always gravitate towards DR Full beams which are steels

A lot of these decisions are automated- and not actually a human looking at a case. -

Thanks to the European Union, Yes, Yes it would. Just one more reason to avoid UKIP
I use Google Chrome and the ad blocker programme is free although they ask for a donation. It is good. I have to say I don't think it is *that* embarrassing - it is 2014 and people use online dating. And the other thing is this only predicts trends so you often get offered things you aren't remotely interested in.
she's possibly old enough to be my mum! predicting that might be interested in 20 years maybe? -
TC Electronic is definately better than Markbass !!
I think Alex Claber kinda summed it up for me in an earlier discussion about TC heads and the power/loudness equation: "Just because some bassists think that doesn't make it true. If you like what the TC amp does as it runs out of power then you'll think it's loud. If you don't then you'll think it's overly compressed and lacking in deep bottom. It's just like how a lot of people think 300W valve amps are really really loud but personally I find them lacking in clean oomph. We have lots of happy customers using the TC amps but I don't recommend them universally because of the sound of their APM system. Clever technology by TC. Disappointed by their marketing" I'm firmly in the 'overly compressed and lacking in deep bottom' camp (and I'm not alone) but obviously a lot of people like their core tone and how they sound at the top of the output range - of course, it's a good think we all don't think the same way or the world would be a much duller place
i guess it also depends on your cab - I imagine a RH750 through a sealed 8x10 or some other vintage cab would feel different in the way it uses power than through some modern designed cab (like barefaced). I do wonder how much of the compressed sound of the TC stuff is the power section or the preamp - anyone stuck something else into the power section of a TC amp to see how it does? -
When i started a 15watt carlsboro combo was my amp. Prospect of 200watts of trace Elliott and I'd have been frothing at the mouth with excitement. Nowadays we talk 500watt heads like its totally normal. Has something changed?
it is odd really like someone (alex claber?) was writing that to double the volume of a 100w amp you would need 1000w or so. So I do wonder exactly how much we need - like until I manage to sell it I've got a separate pre and power amp set up... and most PA power amps would blow my speakers if I went more than half way up.... so we have more efficient neo speakers, more power in our heads.... do we all play that much louder? -
So it's only twice as powerful as the RH450 then? And 20% cheaper Sorry - couldn't resist
I do find it bizarre really, when I started I thought about 200 trace elliot watts would be all I would ever need. -

by the time you've bought two pups, and routed out whatever body.... you might as well have gone and found... a G&L tribute L2000 or a Peavey T40 -
reading what you say about the sound... have you tried rasing the pups a bit?
I've switched from MB to Genz and TC now. The RH450 always felt like it had more grunt than the LM3, so whatever the power management does, it works. Clipping is the issue with some MB heads; they never did improve the limiter from the LM2 to LM3.
Genuinely interested (and a wee bit surprised) you're using TC stuff - what model you using? and why the switch from Genz? -
True, Aguilar for me I know I'll hate the treble roll off, and the puma, it's quoted 600watt at 8 ohm is tempting, plus it's tiny, but anything with a knob like 'taste' puts me right off.
I never used it, it's similar to both the filters on mark bass, just one on each half of the knob. I preferred it in the middle.

the rebel head - pretty awesome head if I could get over the power managed compressed sound it give off. I wanted to like it. -
I'm looking at a new amp myself to go with my Super Compact. I've just move on a Genz shuttle 6 on to get something with more power. Budget is £500-£700 and I'm after something with 500watts at 8 ohms. And struggling to decide what to get.
you like preamps... go for a pre/power setup?
-
My amp is flat at recording, intake a pre amp EQ at gigs to the desk and everywhere else when relying on my amp and cab I change the EQ to either cut or boost the bass to help with room acoustics etc. So I play 'flat' but the chain at the end represents next to not a lot from the signal source, although in the chain is a clean blend that makes it through.
out of interest... what's the amp at the end?
What you got? Haha
a really good one! glowey lights and full of transformers and induction coils.
