This is what those syth dudes are getting up to behind our backs And this is even scarier
do you think the keys player will want to sit peddling the root note for half a song ever? Makes me think of Mr bean in the olympics opening -
Today I tried a few basses....why can't shops set them up?
Frets lifting is often a sign of the wood drying out due to too much warm air in the shop
yeah, did kinda put me off buying anything there. I did wonder how much it would cost to keep the shop more constant in temperature. -
SOLD Tecamp M210 (neo version) 4 Ohm - Price drop to £350!
LukeFRC replied to LukeFRC's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
I realised that it is wider, I was looking for match as the other two are 8 Ohms, joined = 4 your cab = 4 three Cab bass rig max power. Aesthetically i need the correct width of the XS range, but at a premium of course. Good luck absolutely brilliant cabs, at this price a steal..... A 2 x 10" for a 1 x 12" price c'mon guys. Bumpette
you could make a pyramid style structure of speakers, (put your strings inside to keep them fresh?) oh and bump -
I realise this is a crappy excuse but it's not a good time of year for shops who do bother to set instruments up As it starts to get properly cold the overnight temps in a lot of retail environments fall and then there's often a nasty dry hear circulating during the day. This can cause havoc with tuning and neck relief. I help out at a local guitar store now and then and often set instruments up. I had an Alleva Coppolo perfectly set up, for me, recently with a really low action and when I played it this week it was rattling and buzzing like crazy. I had to give the neck more relief and raise the bridge a fraction as well. I now need to go round the walls and re-set everything for the winter Actually I quite like setting things up but a whole shop full might knock some of the fun out this week!
I found this in guitar shop in scotland when I asked why some of the reliefs were so out. Apparently quite warm in the day and then plunging to scottish winter temps at night - apparently one winter some of the necks were moving so much in the expensive guitars at the back the frets started lifting out.... which isn't great. You wonder how much it would cost to keep the room at a constant temp/humidity? -
Id say you are in a massive minority with finding a sharp edged bass the only comfortable bass, I know you had told me about it before but in reality virtually everyone on bass chat will find at least a rounded slab like my classicray more comfortable, even I prefer the full contours of my other stingrays bodies. Like lots of things we get to know more about we learn that not all things are the same for each model, which stingray profile didnt you like for example, the early deep c shape or the early flat D shape, the ebmm clubby shaped one or the jazz width Slo special for example
I tried a rickenbacker today for the first time. I wasn't blown away but I also had no problem with the body... thinking about it.... when I'm playing my arm doesn't ever touch the body on most basses..... how does that happen - I find it impossible to even play touching the body without putting a kink in my wrist.

why are Rickenbacker basses such a touchy subject?
LukeFRC replied to -Virtue-'s topic in Bass Guitars
I tried 2x18's 4004 today. It really confused me - I couldn't work out what I thought of it. It sounded nice enough I guess but felt very odd design wise. -
I was about to write "maybe you've over priced your bass" then went to look at what bass it is.... and man £1250 of a MM5 is the cheapest I've ever seen one! I think Warwickhunt had a good bit of copy in his latest sales posts - basically "try me for trades but don't be offended if my idea of the value of your bass is less than your value" - BUT i think with trades sometimes it's best to evaluate value to yourself more than what it sold for however long ago... I did a trade last year with a fella on here, one of my items for 3 of his- on paper I lost out - but he got something he wanted and I got one thing I wanted and two things I could easily sell - so we were both happy. If I were you I would write down a list of everything you would be interested in trading for and not trade unless it's something you really want/need/would use. I'll end with an interesting story about perceived values.... and how basschat doesn't really reflect the real world all the time.... a guy I found on Facebook was showing off his new bass. He had a Warwick $$5 that he had for sale at about twice what you would ask on Basschat. He ended up doing a straight trade for a USA custom 5 string spector.... which would sell for a lot on here.... both parties were happy. It's all relative!

Now as I understand it DSP can be used to programme your signal so that you can get the most out of your cab - multi band eq and compression so that, for instance controlling the bottom end of the signal, flattening out any Eq spikes and so on. That's how I understand it anyway. I know Funkle said he liked the way his Berg iP cab had a big fat bottom without farting out. So clever technology - just wondering if you had the knowledge and know how would it possible to programme this as a preamp to do the same thing.... ? http://line6.com/tcddk/
I thought this would have been started by Billy Apple and that folks would go OT and the thread end up pear-shaped.
ahh Bill the cockney?

why are Rickenbacker basses such a touchy subject?
LukeFRC replied to -Virtue-'s topic in Bass Guitars
it's cos this is called basschat, and they are too trebly with not enough low end. (We all like Fender's here, except BigRedX who says he doesn't, but is in denial. We're helping him through it) basically in the 70's and 80's, before Rickenbacker had european patents or trademarks (might be wrong on that) some nice people in Japan made copies of Rickenbackers for cheaper and in many cases better than the original. Some of your favourite famous rickenbacker players had japanese made ones... Nice basses - rickenbacker later stopped production of them and other copies - as is their right. However, with little or dubious legal authority (in the EU), and many threats people with these old secondhand copies are not alowed to sell them secondhand without Rickenbacker getting angry with threats against Basschat, ebay et al.... Rickenbacker can afford more lawyers than Basschat so can't argue with them.... But to save you the time, they look pretty but are outdated rubbish basses designed before 50 years of progress on the electric bass, SquierLemmyLeeMacca were all wrong and modern basses are much better nowadays - although Leo (blessed be his name) got it right first time.... or something.... -
Good God, that's the bargain of the century! You want to sell it??
£305 it cost me! and nope cracking bass - I'm really enjoying playing it at the mo.

I bought a yamaha BB1200 from 1977 cos my low bid was the only one. Not quite £50 low but pretty low

I was even working out if point to point would be feasible!

mind you perf board isn't fun to make at all (vero I like).

anyone here make their own PCBs? This may have been asked before but search didn't turn up anything. I want to make something but don't know how hard it will turn out to be, I know maplin sells a starter kit for photo etching.... and a lazer printer will apparently do the same job.... but it's a fair outlay... (oh and something to drill the holes with) for a one off and something so simple - is it worth doing or is perf board a second best option?
Hi I am actually looking for a power amp rather than an amp. Do you know if the preamp can be bypassed in this? Thanks
Yep, plug in the effects/line in socket at the back and turn the effects blend knob all the way to wet. I've been using it this way a fair bit at home and just plugging the ACG preamp into the back. It sounds good! My plan B for my rig was to keep this, get a barefaced or other full range cab and then get a valve preamp to run into this, and have the choice between the relatively uncoloured tecamp pre and the valve one. To be honest that's still a great plan, it's a great amp this and if I think too much I do wonder why I would have stuck it up for sale on here! -
Hi there do you have any sound clips at all , finger style, slap, etc , many thanks paul
I'm sure richardd will reply in a bit... I used to own this bass so can give you a wee comparison I did at the time... the closest thing I found to it was a sadowsky US I tried in the shop - I think the will lee model. Soundwise they were both similar, the valenti having a little more sparkle in it, and the sadowsky a fraction more mids (I think) but the sadowsky and aguilar pre's are pretty similar. Passive was where the difference came out - disengage the preamp and the valenti has this brilliant full passive tone. The sadowsky sounded very flat and dull by comparison. My conclusions were that the Valenti was the better instrument in terms of passive tone, I love the pups it's got, but in active mode there's not much between them. In terms of finish and construction, again not much between them, and both the US Sadowsky and this Valenti IMO were nicer than the Sadowsky metro's. It's a very very nice modern jazz bass, even across the fretboard, with a lovely tone. I for some reason didn't get on with the narrow radius corners on the body otherwise I would still have it - but for me this and an alembic I tried were a wake up call to how an electric bass can and could play and sound. If I thought Richardd would be interested in a trade of something i've got then I'ld think about having it back off him myself!
