Pre eb are my personal favourite, we compared a real pre eb a few weeks ago to my classic 5 which also has a john east preamp, the pre eb blew mine away.
ouch, was that painful to find out?

oh and a shade over 10lb, and possibly, if they used the serial numbers consecutively, the 134th Yamaha BB ever made.....
How did it go Luke? Just over £300 seems to be a very good deal for someone.

That was a steal, £304 for a BB1200? The world's gone mad.
good price for someone there.

Can somebody check my understanding please? (DIY speaker)
+1 Suit you, sir! I'm always amazed at the low price of BFM cabs second-hand. Must be because they don't have any evidence of 'branding' on them and thus are seen as 'home-made'.
-
So thinking.. options... 1) Berg IP or equiv. - powered cabs designed for bass with compression and DSP etc. can easily find other folk who've used them for bass guitar 2) PA speaker, fullrange with DSP etc - often designed to be used with subs so might not be suitable for bass guitar 3) Fullrange bass cab, 2-3 way speaker... not as high tech obviously... barefaced being one example - what others are out there? Theres a BFM omni 12 tallboy for sale on here for not too much, what are they like? Bill stuff has a good reputation hasn't it?

or buy this..... http://basschat.co.uk/topic/213386-l180-bfm-omni-12-tallboy-2x10-full-range-cab/ what you want, or better than spec- more or less on budget, can be used with either of your amps... and without you having to learn to build a speaker yourself! -
they don't say what the actually are - I mean I guess the ones with 12 in the title are 12 inch drivers, and 15 15 inch and so on.... but I'm confused
I've used mine with: Genz shuttle - sounded vacuous and displeasing Acoustic Image Focus II - sounds crisp and beautiful MB MLII & III - sounds rich and fruity while still retaining the clarity All through an EAD Foundation 212 cab which is lovely and transparent and puts out exactly what I put in! I also had a Barefaced S12t before that but the EAD is clearer in all respects
it's interesting how the amp makes such a difference. I'm kinda torn between a cleaner than clean amp for it or something more trad and rock

So right up there with are Fodera's to much, does it work with metal and what bass is best..... another highly subjective thread containing no absolute truths, just opinions! So all you ACG users.... I have an ACG pre in my main bass, massive wide warm sound is how I would describe it- it seems to bring out the harmonics and sounds great.... But what amp (or amp type) do you find it works well with? I've tried woolly valvey stuff (ashdown) big sounding solid state stuff (tecamp puma 1000) and recently found it sounds good plugged straight into the poweramp of my puma. What do you find works, sounds good - and why?

he's also got an interesting looking early overwater. He's had it up for sale for over a month so may be open to offers.

I want to disagree with the framework for this question posed by the OP.... firstly you're writing music or basslines. So I'm going to presuppose that you have listened to some music in your life... secondly... your noodling on a bass guitar... I'm guessing you can actually play the thing. And maybe even learned some songs written by other people? So before you have started your noodling.... you've got an in depth knowledge of western music, esp the use of bass guitar across different genres, you have learnt to play your instrument, will know through practice where each note is and... the tonal relationships between the note you're playing and other notes on the fretboard, you have a muscle memory of where notes are, you have a sense of rhythm gained from listening and learning your instrument and practice. So you wish to suggest you have no musical theory to your noodling... well you may not pass any exams at music school (I wouldn't either) but you've got some theory there.

"It would sound better if you only played the root note, just once per bar"
Gotta echo that to be honest. That, and Ritter threads. If you aren't the target audience, don't worry about it. Seriously though, Fodera make instruments that are clearly different from your average off-the-shelf bass, and even other custom builders to a degree. They're selling them for what they think they're worth, and if people are buying them, they must be doing something right. In fact, if you compared all basses in the £1000-£1500 price range, you'd find many people would be able to pick out the overprices ones.
well this thread is getting rather silly isn't it? But if someone will sell me a fodera for £1000-1500 I'ld be quite happy to play it for a year or so and report back a definite answer to this thread. Wanting to open another tangent on the OP, say I had £1000-1500 what's the most underpriced bass I could get for my money (new or secondhand)?

gibson size - 5/16 of an inch The metric equivalent is 7.94mm when I had one I found a 8mm sprocket tool designed for remote control cars and bent the rod till I could use it. If it's going to be turned reguarly source a 5/16th tool (stumac or somewhere) if you're only going to turn it once in a blue moon then you may be able to get away with a 8mm too.l..

I don't think Fodera's are overpriced to be honest, never played one mind. In the guitar world I've never understood the appeal of PRS. The entry level US models yes... but the AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA grade updates and so on..... ?
Definitely more like a Les Paul than an SG. I think these were a cutaway LP despite the SG name. A mate of mine has an SG2000 from the early 80's and that is the best guitar I have ever come across (Early Santana and Jake Burns). Another mate has an SG500, again another great guitar. I have a Yamaha Studio Lord 360 which looks like a Les Paul but sounds uncannily like the SG2000. Good old Yamaha in the 80's. Love em..
thanks, its amazing how many folk presume it's a copy of a Gibson sg. Oh and the sale fell through at the 11th hour so this is available again. 399 or trades for bass stuff

well I can afford a wee bit more than the current price so going to have a wee bid on, expecting to be outbid.
I have been off work for nearly 18 months long story so wont bore you all with that but yeah the pills and potions they give you certainly have knocked me for six I feel like a druggie lol I must admit I am bored silly I cant do lot but Christ being at home all day everyday is so boring I am used to working at least 12 hours every day and even though I would say the job I had was rubbish it was work and gave me a meaning to get up in the morning do a days graft and live a normal life. I try to keep myself busy the best I can at home but it is hard with being ill blah blah blah its diving me mental but like FinnDave I am not going to give up and go down the self pity route I am just going to concentrate and try and get as well as I can get and try to find some suitable job I can do I need to do that for myself but mainly for my family I want to show my kids a good ethic regarding work and family. I have even been pondering going to church and reading the bible I don't really know why as religion has never really appealed to me before and I used to think it was a load of BS but maybe it is because I need to find some faith and something good to believe in? right that's my deep and meaningful over lol
tip don't start at the begining. Start at matthew. And sorry to hear you're not well. Are you able to get some bass playing in? that's my musical escape while not well .
That's not good, I had it two years ago, had to have about three months off work and horse doses of strong antibiotics. Used to cough and exhale until my throat locked up, if my wife hadn't been around to slap me on the back and make me breath in again I'd be gone by now. Several times I really thought I'd had it, and I am not given to self pity or dramatics. Take care!
well I havn't started the whooping yet and on the anti biotics so hopefully it might have been caught before the thing kicks in for good. Had all these odd symptoms (i'm pretty healthy normally) and then remembered a good friend had recently had it and the symptoms matched. Need to convince Mrs FRC to get to the GP's now!

oh and medication for possible whooping cough....
Don't suppose it makes you feel any better about letting it go if I say I love it to bits already, does it?
awww makes me feel all glowey inside funny when you can't afford them you cannae move for cheap good basses, when you can.... they all dry up...
