1. I have those pups on my new bass.... worked out what the switches do yet? The SD website just talks about the later ones with 2 switches not the 3.
2.
Recently picked up a used (as new) Jag classic 500 amp and nothing not to like about it. A great sounding amp, silly weight for a vintage/tube look amp. The quoted 500 watts is enough for general gigging use. I would advise to stay clear of their previous line, formerly Tech Soundsystem amps (non class D) as these were prone to various reliability issues I understand. Regarding cabs, they changed drivers a couple of times but depending on taste they are up there with the best in lightweight construction. Also the Tech SS line of Neo cabs may be worth checking out if you see used.
With Tech Soundsystem stuff - do you mean the cabs or the amps or both? and what reliability issues?
3. speaker ones - drivers even
4. Old stuff and current stuff is different. Old stuff - Powersoft amp moduals and neo speakers new stuff - Ice amp moduals and ceramic speakers.... reliability - you'll have no problems
5.
For me I wouldn't have bothered chopping and changing gear for a sound that's in my head. The thing you didn't like was something in the cab so you got rid of the amp? Anyway, if the preamp and amp are working for you use that.
yes. stupid of me. I've so far managed not to make that kind of daft mistake with basses - but with amps I seem too.
6. and going on another thread - don't lend it to anyone!
7. bang for buck, old trace elliot stuff....
8. So I've been playing around with my rig... and So I used to have a Tecamp Puma 1000 and the matching M210 cab.... but there was a punchy mids going on in the cab which didn't suit my main bass massively. Ideally I would have a more full range cab. I ended up picking up a Roland D-Bass 210 combo off here. I bit heavier (a lot actually) but sounds pretty good - the preamp isn't the best but the power amp stage has some clever DSP to let a small box kick out a reasonable about of both volume and low end. I ended up trading my Puma 1000 with 2x18 on here for a Hellborg preamp - mainly as I wanted to try it as I had read stuff about it... Hearing the puma 1000 through Will's BFM Omni 15 cab though was a revaluation - sound wise it was much more what I was going for. (To be honest it sounded great!) So got the Hellborg preamp back home and it sounds amazing. I love it. But Hellborg into the roland is a bit cumbersome. Most the time the Hellborg is going to get left at home - which is daft. In an ideal world I would buy a Barefaced big baby 2 and a power amp to drive it. But money doesn't allow.... So should I just keep the cumbersome set up.... or try to sell the roland, use that money to buy something like a Peavey IPR 1600 and use the tecamp cab.... and maybe trade the cab for something I'ld like more, (probably a 1x12) at a later date..? any thoughts on which way to go?

10.
Can I come And live in it ?
only just saw this.... eeerm you would be trapped behind a bike every evening.... that ok?
11.
An excellent summary from Mr Funkle. Does any more need to be said?
no, but it will
12.
I think that direct recording helps a lot to understand how the bass plays I don't like the crude sound of direct input as well, I wouldn't use it then. I also know that recording is a little pain, I perfectly understand if only few of us rec clips to help selling Cheers Luca
IMO recording a bass really doesn't tell you much unless it's compared to other basses you do personally know. Me and Richard and Luke have all owned this bass but I bet if we all sat and recorded it when we owned it it would sound different. Different strings, different interfaces, different set ups and most of all different players. For all we know Richardd might be the two fingered django rienhart of the bass, or he could just about manage an oasis cover.... If you want to listen to things similar.... go listen to youtube clips of sadowsky, then of the slight aggressiveness of an aggy preamp, and then the clarity of nordstand pickups. Quite simply some of the nicest pups I've heard. this may tell you more http://valentibasses6.blogspot.co.uk Let me put it this way, If I had the money, 5 years later I'ld be reacquainting myself with this bass
13.
Luca.I am to old to mess with clips and techno stuff,I struggle on here, Alder Body think it is a Modera board ( I think I have spelt that wrong) but if you look on Nino's site and look at his old basses all the spec's are there.Rich
Pau Ferro if I remember correctly
14.
Thanks, just had a look at BK's website. I'm really interested in doing something like a Berg IP, but lighter. No clue about DSP, measuring cab SPL/freq responses, etc, so probably a non starter for now. I'll have to do more research, I think. The QSC K12 etc are a great idea - we just need a bass-specific version one of these days!
I like this idea
15. these sound pretty cool. I used to have an old Pro-bass 150w version sounded great. Lent it to a friend who left it at work... just before the business was sold and shut
16. so you're also going to need new knobs, tuners, strap buttons.... maybe think of it as black hard wear and a nut that matches your frets?
17.
The other option is to put the head on the floor, behind the cab, once you've got the levels set and run the instrument lead under the cab. This has the advantage that: A, you're head cant fall to the floor and B, you haven't got that horrible bit of lead to stand on, where it drops down from the head, and potentially damage the jack socket in the head.
I played a gig at king tuts once where I was plugged into the DI box down on the floor next to and a tiny bit behind my amp. At some point in the first song I managed to jump onto the end of the lead and half shear it off- so if I moved the signal cut out.... I spent the whole gig stock still right next to the amp (and stage lights) for fear of loosing my signal. I only worked out what it was at the end of the gig when I unplugged and it fell to pieces in my hand! Moral of that story is that floor level isn't always great!
18. I get the bit about the nut. Your JAN2 is broke and a bit rubbish- shall I get the brass or tedur replacement JAN3..... But I don't get the bit about the bridge... presumably the current tedur JAN2 doesn't match the brass alloy bridge you've got now... so changing the nut to whatever you want it's still not going to be the same as the bridge. If the option is between spending about 20 euros for a Tedur one - or 140 euros for a brass one, plus a new bridge..... I know what I would go for!
19. warwickhunt has his Hellborg preamp up for sale - i've got one and it's awesome!
20. Before everyone jumps in and says "oh they should pay, the rotters" Taking them at their word.... they don't sound like they know or think they messed anything up, and what they are saying sounds reasonable and like you would expect someone in there position to respond. I guess you've checked the wring and had the driver out to diagnose the problem? Also- if it's a fault that only shows itself after the cab has stopped working.... is it entirely possible that they could play their set with it and it's fine, and then you turn on and it's not? From their point of view it's hard to show that it was them who caused the damage. Could it have been something like they play their set at good volume, not pushing cab that hard, unplug bass without muting and that horrid jack coming out of cab sound blew it?
21. no - it's cos they turned the replies off to stop people creating cheeky sales adverts....
22. £650.... looked in he secondhand market?
23.
As Wayne said, people generally don't criticise Barefaced on here much. Probably because of the aggressive responses they receive - as we see in this thread. "I waited five months, paid in full, and a month later couldn't even elicit an email from the company!" "Don't worry son, they'll turn up eventually. And when they do, they'll sound amazing. Did I mention they were lightweight? Oh, yes." "If you want a Michelin starred meal, you must be prepared to pay in advance and wait a month. Didn't you know that? Maybe you should have gone to McDonalds instead. Ho, ho. Lightweight. Light as a feather they are. I'll come back later and patronise you some more, OK?" "You should be grateful you're being allowed to buy them. I have my bass on my back, my Barefaced in one hand, and my walking stick in the other. Hey ho!" "What do you mean, the feet fall off? May your dick fall off and your balls shrivel up, you horrible piece of sh*t." "I have a SuperDuper 12 and I'm loving it. I go to bed with it and give it a good seeing-to every night. Have I posted a picture of it in my living room? I have? Several times? Oops." "What do you mean, you sent the money and haven't heard from them since. They're craftsmen, they are. And craftsmen should be allowed to craft and not be bothered with things like writing emails. Do you know that they are lightweight? Well, they are - so there!" "I waited patiently for five years for mine - and bloody hell, it was worth it!! You can knock a candle out at ten paces with these buggers. Pity I gave up playing in the time being, but my god, they're lightweight. Lightweight I tell you" "Sorry, I'm not having that. What do you mean UNPROFESSIONAL. I challenge you to a duel with pistols, sir. How DARE you!!" "My pal Alex was professional when I ordered my cab. So you are WRONG!" "Barefaced should put the prices up. I mean, £30 for carriage - that's too cheap. It should be £100." "I can't be doing with a cab that weighs 40kg. I mean, my back would give out if I just looked at one of those. Give me a B, give me an A, give me a, errrr..... what's after A?? Anyway, they're as light as a feather, and that's all that matters. End of."
sometimes I miss that stupid kudos/like button they trailed for a few weeks!
24. I do find smashing up your gear on stage a bit trite nowadays - walking cliches of what a band is. Mind you I think the folk too scared of dings to take their guitars out the house are also in a similar bracket. (Edit: I mean, if they have souls it's the equivalent of battery farming chickens.)
