1. I've an ACG preamp in my warwick.... made by East of course
2. I was reading about these the other day - how do they sound?
3.
It's blue and it's a Thumb... what's to like?
I can't decide if I like painted warwicks or not. Old bluey was ok, as is your red one.... but they were transparent. this looks kinda ok, but roonjuice's one (sorry mate) the grey burst.... on a warwick.... why??
4.
Not a 98 mate! Does that bass still have the sticker on the control cavity?
I know it's blue but even you'ld have to say that looks nice!
5. new prices have shot up. At the same time you're selling something secondhand you're going to keep the new price in mind too- also I don't think folk at the moment are willing to dip their prices to make the sale....
6. wow. A thought did strike me though.... If I ever played a gig at the top of a high mountain my drivers would be likely to break (or whatever fancy word alex uses) at lower volume than if i played by the dead sea...
7.
Really? IMO this is pinker...
I was trying to find a photo of that then I scrolled down and saw you got there first. quite something that bass
8. I just watched all 3 videos in that series.... if anything he's a bit more down to earth about it than some other more custom builders (or actually the custom builder's fanboys) are about it. I mean what he was saying was that if the neck was higher pitch it would go with a lower pitch body and so on - which kinda makes sense if you've got 20-30 necks and 20-30 bodies and you're wanting to make 20-30 consistentish guitars.
9. it's the design of tone stack rather than the fact it's valves i think
10. I kinda wish I had had a music lesson in my life. I wish my parents had had the money and I could have been taught the piano or classical guitar properly. As it was they didn't have the money or any musical background and when I was 17 I just picked up a bass and taught myself. I love bass, I love rhythm and the soul it gives music.... but there is a certain point with bass with however amazing it may technically be.... it's rarely up there with the best classical guitarist or paianist. anyway I was looking for something else and this is good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fc3hffDNr8
11.
Are they out of fashion?
they were. i wont tell you how much my ss1 cost me
12.
Each to their own and all that. To me, Barefaced cabs are staggeringly good. I'd wager that dissenting voices come from people that (a.) don't like the shock of hearing their pure bass tone (b.) are unused to the cabs' prominent mids. That may come from years of getting used to the mid-scooped tone present in many cabs. But, for me - nothing cuts through a band mix with such clarity and warmth. And if the cab's mids and highs are too much for your taste, simple - turn down the mids and highs a bit on your amp.
well thats a contradiction - either it is their "Pure bass tone" or it's prominent mids cannae be both! Also unless you've got one of those 32 band eqs in your set up it's not going to be as simple as |"turning down the mids and highs on your amp"
13.
The thing about only hearing very clean is that it isn't very forgiving...so you need to be up to that...or rather want to hear that coming back at you.
I find it an odd thing - why wouldn't you want to hear it - esp in practice as you can train yourself to good technique. I have a friend (and they're a music teacher) and they can "play" guitar. The amount of awful noise from bad technique is horrid - and you wonder how they can't hear that.
14. oh and I will have a thumb, oh yes I will
15. Why did they go out of fashion? well they started as high end, hand built instruments, and somepoint in the late 90's went mental with the whole nu-metal thing and started churning them out... with the obvious compromises that might make to quality (or perceived quality anyway) Recently they've reversed that trend - making less instruments in germany and aiming for a higher quality und so weiter. My streamer is amazing. It was good but with the ACG and Barts it's now amazing.
16. I've already tried an alpher ner ner ner ner ner!
17.
You could try discussing this point with them. I would have thought most guitar shows would consider spending an hour or so doing a setup to be a fair exchange for a £600 sale.
the pertinent point I should make clear is I don't have £600 at the mo.... also they don't have anyone there able to do set up (though they have a tech in every sat) and... it was "off" enough I would want to see it set up and left to settle for a few days to see what the neck would do (if that makes sense)
18.
Yes I agree with Luke the later Silver Series MIJ Precisions have very slender nut widths the JVs and SQ series had vintage accurate wider widths. These are very nice to play however.
having just measured my 1992 jap squier p neck it looks bang on 40mm at the nut. I would say... from playing the Warwick (39mm) too much I'm more used to the thinner neck of the 1992 jap squier width... but after 5 min getting used to it the JV is by far the easier neck to play.
19. hey they are the vintage correct 1 and 5/8 of an inch which comes out at 41.27mm at the nut. In comparison the current US vintage reissue has a a nut width of 44.1mm and the american standard 41.3mm. For JV's: they were aiming for vintage accurate so I doubt they made any thinner nut width. They are nice easy necks to play though, rolled fingerboard etc. (as typical with Japanese fender) Most tend to be lightweight, mine's sub 9lb I think. For narrower necks the early 90's Squier stuff from japan (silver series et al) has Precision necks with thinner nut width. Not as nice as a JV neck but thinner
