Hey! so I'm trying to sell elsewhere an electric guitar I've got. * Been offered a MIK squier tele with new pup, a SD pickup booster pedal and a Yamaha APX8C acoustic. If I did trade I would probably keep them for a wee while then try and sell them on... but I know nothing about the Yamaha acoustic and google isn't being that helpful.... what's it like * I did try sell it on here earlier this year, little interest. And untill I pay my subs to basschat it's not fair to say what it is.

I saw that seller the other day - lots of high end items at slightly more than what they should be - but I'm sure i've seen this one before http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAZZ-BASS-CUSTOM-MADE-NO-RESERVE-MADE-IN-ENGLAND-PART-EXCHANGE-WELCOME-/161111833356?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2583037b0c
That'll be the 3 actual valves in the preamp!
that might have something to do with it
I like the letter but after listening to the album again thought it was pretty bass light. All I can really hear is bass drum where the bass guitar should be.
the wife's marking french homeworks... dare I crank up in utero....

Barefaced I think would be up there towards the top in available speaker cabs and the compact is a good cab. The LM2... is an amp I really can't stand the sound of - but it has lots of fans - and what it does it does really well. Is that the sound you're going for? Otherwise the RH450 will sound a bit like a digital amp pretending to be an SVT (not a bad thing) and will have lots of bells and whistles, and also compression and things going on to squeeze the most out of it's power rating. The Streamliner I know less about but again is supposed to be valvey sounding. So if you want to sound more valvey go for it.... otherwise... how old are your strings? try raising the pickup a smidgin? does turning the cab a different way in that room make a difference to the tone... ?

Sanburg Umbo electrical system solutions
LukeFRC replied to Pinball's topic in Repairs and Technical
it is passive switching system - a while back I think I did read somewhere where someone had worked out what the different modes were. Natural tone, but nice options.... glockenklang? Oh and btw... the way that that switch is wired if you did get it fixed you could still add a preamp as well after it -

nice to see a bigger photo of that body than Facebook! It looks lush - I think it will overshadow the top! What's the neck wood again, I couldn't read it before -

For Sale only,Valenti #42 in CAR. It Is Staying
LukeFRC replied to richardd's topic in Basses For Sale
I owned this bass for about a year in 08/09 and I nearly had it back off Richard once but he decided to hold on to it at that time. I mean it when I say I haven't owned a bass with a better fit and finish than this Valenti. Everything about its construction was just spot on and playing it was effortless and inspiring. If I had the funds for it these days I would buy it again in a heartbeat.
I'm the same - I bought it in a spate of buying jazz basses - and ended up with something else. In retrospect... I probably should have held onto this one and given it longer. I know that if I had the cash, or if my JV sold, this would be on my list of basses to look at - and if it did beat the thumb bass i kinda want I would have no hesitation in buying this back. -

pickups and the other thing, the Bass VI. I don't think that a suqier will take as much to get it playing nice as you might think.
However once you've got it set up for your style of playing and provided you use the same type and gauges of strings you don't need to bother recalibrating. As for the amount of electronics in it - there's probably about the same degree of complexity as a modern amp (non-valve) and less than your average multi-effects so I don't see why it should be so daunting.
ever seen the circuit board from a gibson RD artist - that's a big board!
Here you go:
that looks lovely. Often when I see some basses with fancy tops It's a real turn off visually - but that looks lovely!

Making a '78 P-Bass a little more 'sonically versatile'
LukeFRC replied to TheButler's topic in Bass Guitars
The Mesa's EQ doesn't give me enough to play with. I can't really 'sculpt' - there is little deviation from what is an overwhelmingly thumpy rumble. I'm just starting to get complaints from band members that I sound out of the mix on everything except Jamerson-ey/Motown stuff.
? that sounds a wee bit odd. Time for new strings then. If round wounds messed with your hands was that cos they were nickels or just generally? Set of cheap strings costs what £10 - try it out see what happens. Also how old is the lead... old leads if they get damaged can act as an extra tone control... -
This is the reason I ONLY have Ibanez basses (with the exception of my acoustic), as I have small girly hands and small girly fingers. It's the only bass that feels natural and comfortable to me.
i have small girly fingers too. But attatched to odd looking spade like hands....
That calibration and adjustment business means that , unfortunately perhaps given the beautiful hi - resolution of the sound these basses seem to be capable of , pickups like this will remain a niche product , I'm afraid . That extensive circuitry is also a major sticking point regarding mass -market appeal . Like the original Alembic systems with an external power supply , cost aside for the moment , it starts to border on "hair -shirt " technology and risks alienating potential consumers . The reality is that most people just can't be bothered when magnetic pickups and relatively simple active electronics can give generally satisfactory results .
the pedant in me would suggest that folk who Lightwave are marketing too possibly would already be in the hair-shirt group. It's not a mass appeal instrument to begin with. I wouldn't mind seeing a photo of the front of that bass BigRedX
It's nice that they've come up with something Roscoe Beck-ish. They did that very well.
I was sat there racking my brains trying to think what your bass was that it reminded me of... that and a G&L.
