Some great input here chaps, much appreciated... I wonder just how much of a current 'vintage' fenders value is simply the equivalent of inflation over the instruments lifetime? I'm guessing if one was looking for appreciation value in an instrument available new today, you would have to find something that was as new and original as a fender P was in the beginning. I mean were not talking about a new take on the bass guitar, were talking about an entirely new instrument as it was back in the 50's... Investment aside for a moment...and maybe I'm just a blinkered old bass enthusiast... I've got an itch for an old jazz... I think i'm just trying to justify it... Rob
just go for it!
It all depends what you mean by investment . Do you mean appreciating in value so you can eventually sell for a profit , or do you mean a minimal depreciation so you will get a healthy proportion of your money back if you want to sell ? The answer to the first scenario is "no , not in the forseeable future but eventually maybe, to some extent " . The second hypothesis is the most realistic in the sense that a good Fender will always sell for a decent price and they are perenially popular . I can't think of many basses that are as saleable as a U.S.A - made Fender , particulaly if you chose a desirable model and colour .
problem is at the current prices you're still going to take a hefty whack in resale prices - the new american vintage reissues are £1700 or so! Secondhand at the mo you could buy a custom shop fender and have change!

I quite enjoyed reading this thread at work when the boss went out. Modern fenders that I think will be worth a bit in the future? the Roscoe beck sig. and er that's it. unless something happens that makes something stand out then nothing made now really seems too exciting. What seems to be collectable is the stuff before or after a major change
In this weather it's near impossible to keep an entire showroom's worth of stock in tune, with perfect action and with great intonation. Believe me, I've tried!
I went into a large guitar shop in a major northern british city and tried out about 10 different jazz basses. One of them had such a bad bow in the neck I felt I needed to tell the staff as I was leaving - like major bow, checking the fretboard is still attatched level. Anyway he rolled his eyes and told me that the shop is nicely heated when open - but cools down a lot at night. The fluxuations in temprature being so great they apparently had the frets lifting on a load of custome shop guitars..... beggers belief why he told me that!

Probably the fender sounds more like.... well like almost every bass they've heard on records.....
There is a film in there, BRX starts building and selling fake Fenders on eBay only to fall in love with an old P bass after doing extension research to improve the fakes and ends up selling all his Gus basses to fund a road trip to refund all the buyers of his previous fake basses sold?
or he becomes so famous at building fake P basses that he has to tell the buyers that their "fake" is a fake but worth more than they thought. -
Wal i think.... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6m_8a4xrQ6k

Do older strings sound nicer than new ones?
LukeFRC replied to BetaFunk's topic in General Discussion
ooh are we talking steels or nickels?? Hex or round core? Personally I like the sound of round core steels from about a week after fitting them till they are dead. When they are dead depends on the string as different strings last longer than other - set of stadium elites lasted 3-4 months, set of DR Fatbeams lasted over two years on the P bass and then one day suddenly lost it. -
Learn to do it yourself - apart from needing work on the frets it's not hard.
So? I posted 3 ads at one time - less that a lots of users. I posted ads with only very rare guitars that are very hard to find - is this bad? I paid 20GBP for this 3 ads - i dont have rights to put them on forum? You also cannot find any of those guitars on ebay.co.uk -isn't that interesting offer worth to be on this forum? I also didn't find info on rules that abandon me to post this kind of ad.
.... you agreed to
You also explicitly agree that you shall not:
( b ) Provide or use this web site for the provision of any content or service in any commercial manner, or in any manner that would involve junk mail, spam, chain letters, pyramid schemes, or any other form of unauthorised advertising, without the Administrator's prior written consent;

just chat to a mod first I guess. To the OP - what was it about the 75 bass that you liked? More info will help suggestions - 60's and 70's pup spacing is quite different sounding!

sure we've done this list before - a load of rubbish - real collectors will know what they want and what stuff is worth and why it has value. Non collectors won't care - I think this has been written to fill space in a magazine for guitarists
Final (final) price reduction to £1400 and if it doesn't sell at that price then I'll hold on to it for a while. I have limited connectivity at the moment (mainly via phone) so I may be a little slower than my usual prompt self, at responding.
what a billy bargain you're offering here! -
I can't believe that there hasn't been one offer on this bass ... I don't think people are getting just how good this bass is for the money. You are getting a bass comparable with an NYC Sadowsky IMO.
+1 - I sold it cos I didn't click with it, looking back at that decision... I would quite happily buy this back if I had the moola
