I saw this at one stage in the build - the body weighs nothing!

looks interesting. Makes me wonder why they don't manage their forests like we would do over here? Maybe we had the fortune of the government (forestry commission) running much of our forests.

So today I woke up and looked across my bedroom and there was no bass gear there (house share so they like in my room) It's a very odd feeling. It's all in my/our new house that I'll move into in a week or so- rented so no chance of wall hangers. We've ended up with the amp in a corner, one bass out next to it and at the moment the yamaha electric guitar out as well. In a cupbaord are the other two basses and the wee guitar amp. It's an odd situation - I can imagine I'm going to get fed up with it hiding away and sell a bass and the guitar or something - I just can't see the point in having things like that hidden away in cupbards. Or just wait till we move someplace else- I dunno. I guess it makes me think more about what I value in basses- the fact that it's quite easy to fill your time and brain with different instruments cos, well you need that tone or whatever - and while it's nice to have.... you don't need it do you? I kinda respect Chris2112 on that who only seems to have one bass at a time.

look in the affiliates forum - there was a company offering cheap class D power amps there before christmas. They were lightweight but full rack width. The other maybe easier option is just buy a powered monitor and use that as an amp/wedge

playing bass in itself is a artform in losing your ego. unless you are really really good. or Antiloco

He took Jens's advice and placed an order [/quote] I guess I didn't actually say it but I think that the way Jens talks (on videos I've seen of him) i think that he's probably quite focused on sound (coming from an engineering background) - I'm not sure that that is true for all makers

[/quote] I guess this is the catch22 of custom instrument designers - push on with something unconventional sounding and less people will want it, create something familiar and it will have a wider range of applications for the player. Some builders seem to cater for this e.g. Overwater and Status seem to aim for a high end but fairly neutral (to my ears bland sometimes) tonal range so that along with the EQ they really can be a bass for all occasions, which I guess is a massive plus for your busy pro player. What I find odd is that custom instruments obviously offer a massive range of options and the whole prosess seems to be focused on how the thing looks rather than how it sounds. I would be more interested in a builder who (like Jens does with that guitar) sells it on how they built it to have a certain sound. My take on Ritter - I bet they play well, not overly keen on some of his designs, i think he as a person from what ive seen is pretty cool guy, would I buy one? Probably I would go with a UK custom builder myself

In most cases I'ld wait till june then sell it to person A. Unless someone else gets in there first with a value you would expect. I don't think I would ever do pay in instalments - if you want it you save up till you can afford it.

my old band went on to release a load of stuff two years after I had left. I was asked what I felt I had a credit on- i said I didn't really care anymore and if they thoguht I should be credited on stuff (they knew what I had done) then do it, if not leave me alone. They came back and their manager really wanted to know - so I listed stuff - (baring in mind while in the band we had said all credits would be split equally) including vocal lines and the major melody - they got a bit grumpy at that and argumentative. After a while I just shrugged and walked away, the songs were 5 years old after all. No idea if I ever got credited. The moral is- unless there is lots of money tieds up- don't waste your time on an old band. Oddly even though they claimed it was the new bass player all the time there are a few tracks on iTunes/spotify with my playing on it. I know this cos on one of them I never thoguht anyone outside the band would hear it and decided to goof around and do a paul simon/graceland influenced mess

Paul Rose/Prose bass/Funn bass was focusing on making small light short scale basses at the end - not expensive either. Or Letts could possibly rustle you up something similar
