this was a sh*t bass literally, ended up round this guys house once at a party, he was a guitarist, but he had a bass.. was an encore p bass.. im not joking when i say it had dog sh*t all over the pickups... why, i will never know... strings were about as dead as they could be, not really the fault of the bass as there not hugely bad instruments if set up correctly.. but a bad experience all the same
oh look... a bass covered in poo, probably dog poo. I know what I'll see what the strings are like.... oh look dead as well...
No, I haven't got a phone number for him (nor have I usually had one when I've traded here). I could email him via his PayPal address, I suppose, but I have no way of knowing how often that gets used. (I don't know if he's read this thread, but I have PMed him that it exists.)
what have the mods said? Have you chatted to any locals to him on here too? You say the fella's been one here for at least 3 years, you've traded before... look at his feedback thread and start contacting other folk he's traded with, one of them may have phone number/address for him. Email him via his paypal address! That would be more useful than starting this thread! you don't know if he gets it true.. but if you PMed me on Basschat the only way I would know is if I came onto basschat. You email me and my phone starts blinking at me.... -

"but the style I'm looking for is indie rock or blues rock. This is a very broad spectrum.... and it's not going to work if everyone is pulling in different directions/genres" I have a feeling that this band would not be fun to be in. No fun, no social side creating a buzz or excitement about what you are doing, nope turn up and play your (well his) indie rock and be serious it's all about being "successful" whatever that means to a 42 year old guitarist who's " spent half my life getting my music to where it's at"

I clicked guitar but feel the need to specify I envy classical guitarists. None of this electric or acoustic nonsense- real proper classical guitar. I did an internship based in a psychiatric hospital and every week we would have drop in art sessions for a variety of in patients and out patients. A great wee group of different people all in different places in how they were and ability and skill in art and stuff. Well one day they were running a project and got a couple of the out patients in both in their 60's, neither of them that skilled at art really - but he bought this cheapish classical guitar in and books of music and started playing a bach piece. It blew me away - I'll never reach that level of musicianship, skill, technique and beauty in music. (im ok with that)

sh*te soundwise or contstruction? Construction wise an Epiphone T bird I was setting up for a mate. Honestly don't think they could have used a softer metal on the metal parts and just a bit nasty. Even worse than the made of cardboard dan electro I had for a while. Most other things you can get playable can't you? Sound wise... dunno, nothing really awful. Some really really bland sounds though. the epiphone above being a prime example!
That's made my evening mate, thank you!
went back for a second listen! i think it's her voice that reminds me of ZvG - they are very glasgow sounding and you are more London... hand written notes in vids though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W3h7nmL9PKM
Warwick Streamer ChromeTone with an ebony fretboard, mate I f***ing adore it!
ahh I just found it, listened to a load of Kit Richardson stuff too... laptop speakers on low late at night but it sounds great man. (given I couldn't hear the bass at all ) reminded me a bit of zoey van goey (check out the propeller vs wings album)
It's not just tone that we're after with kit though, the attack and release, and the envelope, are as important, or even more so, than tone. Tone is a misleading word. True that a lot of our sounds come from what we do with our hands, but if your bass, amp and effects are not reacting to your hands in the way you need or expect, or in a way that pleases and inspires you, or in a way that fits your musical vision or the music you play, then it's time to change that kit for something that does. Of course, there is a lot of inexperience or ignorance around too, which the industry likes to capitalise on. I change my sounds quite often, I am on a journey of improvement. But because I have a POD X3 LIVE, I dont need to spend loads of cash buying and selling amps and effects to get what I want. And I have the ONE bass which delights me.
+1 which is all part of how it sits in the mix. I am going to hunt through your posts to work out what that "one" is

A festival/industry gig. Set up with 12 different venues in the town and music on constantly at them all, free to see anything. Deal was we all used the provided backline - which was great as some music shop had sponsored it all and it was all good stuff, you know brand new state of the art stuff.... except Ashdown had just brought out their superfly amp. Now by choice I wouldn't play ashdown, but I regularly used an ABM300 head and they arn't awful- just not my flavour. The superfly however.... arrrgh the amount of time i sat hitting buttons to try and set the EQ vauguely right, you couldn't work out the gain and volume and worst of all I lent back mid gig and put my hand on it and you could have fried eggs on it.
(hes said im tooo busy before now and he doesnt like my tight sound, hes also an awesome guitarist but doesnt learn the tunes like the tunes then moans at me when im playing them like the track).
I interperate this as: "even though I don't care much about this band I want you all to drop work/social life/family to make this work and massage my ego for me, your sound it's just too.... tight and present in the mix taking the attention away from me, oh and you know when you follow the songs, well I didn't learn them like that so can we do them how I think they are" kick him out, or at least start a discussion (argument) with him over it all.

is the tweeter working? as in is there a difference between turning it up and turning it down it could have blown.
-
just a though.... that is a closed back cab?
-
could you not change how the speakers in the cab are wired together, so have two sets of two which should give you a 4 ohm cab?
-
saw this, judging by the string thru bridge this may be USA and worth going to have a look at if you are local. If I had the money I would be tempted to go myself! http://www.gumtree.com/p/for-sale/fender-jazz-bass-with-hard-case/1008318132
Hi there, I have a 2003 Warwick thumb "Bleach blonde" that was beautiful to play when I first got it but gradually the action got way high to the point that I couldn't do anything about it with the truss rod. This thing is totally unplayable now. For the money that Warwick's cost you'd expect the neck to be solid. It has been kept side by side with my '96' Corvette F.N.A, which is perfect, so not an atmospheric issue and it's never been dropped. Has anyone else had these issues and are Warwick likely to help? Not sure who I could contact... All input appreciated, thanks. Kev.
where are you based? We will be able to recomend local luthiers to you! It should be fixable I would have thought/hoped
When you've bought a bass here, and paid the money, how long is it reasonable to wait for something to happen? A week? Two weeks? I won't name the seller, at this stage. But he's had the money since 7th January, and I've had one apologetic PM (on the 19th) and nothing since.
probably now if that was the question you're asking. Also look at if they are longstanding member who else is from the area. There are clumps of people who know each other on here - so for instance a PM to one of their friends could result in some kind of explanation "oh yeah it's crap, he's having major surgery/his wife left him two weeks ago and his life fell apart/he's a bawbag, ill get onto him for you" or something -
We're all chasing that elusive tone that we hear in our heads. But is it all down to our fingers and how we play? Are we wasting our time and money buying new gear?
depends what it is. Tone is partly from an instrument and partly from the player. I think as you learn more you realise that one half is more important than the other
Here's that big fat Wayne's World bump! Why? Because "I like to play". Beautiful bass, hope it finds a respectful home and that you land that Thumb mate. :-)
yeah, someone will see this bass and go schwing! I mean she's babelicious, if she was a president she would be babe-raham Lincoln... und so weiter...
