Woah - really? Do you know where I might find one for sale? I must have one!
Hello!
IMO, the JV's are better...in all categories, and more accurate necks/bodies.
better than the 80s stuff or better than the 50s stuff
Actually, it is,
booger, teaches me for opening my mouth on things I know nout about. I should stick to japanese copies of this bass from the early 80's....

FS: Fender logoed JV Precision Bass '57ri 1982 £1099 WOOOOP!

Are you going to bump your thread every hour? No, that would be unfair on everyone else wouldn't it- It's better to wait the requested 36 hours before bumping in order to keep Ped happy and give other folk a chance. I mean there are some great other basses on here - Gareth has a nice JV jazz, Greenking has a rathernice Yamaha TRB 4 string amongst others and Ashford1985 has a feeler out on a rather nice looking ACG, that I would like myself if I thought I could pull off a singlecut. But I'm impatient! I have this bass I want to sell. I don't have TIM to wait! Well you should. It's just nicer that way. Tell you what, Waynes world clips in your thread may earn you a free bump from someone
Brilliant Luke. Good luck with the sale, your detailed post needs to go into the "how-to" section of basschat. All the best.
Thanks again. I havn't broken a string since that unfortunate time I was using an electronic tuner and not thinking. E string went 'Ping' - luckily it wasn't this bass so no damage was done. impossible to know without seeing it- my guess bad installation or the jack socket isn't gripping hard enough.

What's the difference between 9v and 18v electrics?
LukeFRC replied to chris_b's topic in Repairs and Technical
So how does it work when a pedal (e.g. the Catalinbread SFT) says that it will work with either 9V or 18V? I can see how using better / stronger components can handle the overall extra power, but wouldn't the biasing still be askew? Be gentle with me Dave, you know I'm inexperienced in this sort of activity ...
cos it will be designed to work higher voltage but still work at lower voltages. -
What's the difference between 9v and 18v electrics?
LukeFRC replied to chris_b's topic in Repairs and Technical
about 8.5v I would guess in practice! Seriously thoguh I think it depends on the circuit - and yes one without high enough rated components could go pop. -
stripping poly is not fun. nor cheap.
As the title suggests, A friend of mine is selling his P-Bass and is trying to get £1500 for it.... http://www.musicware...tweed-case.html
Thats the same as £1250 once you take the tax off... then the shop will be taking a cut.... and you get certain rights buying it through a shop... and that shop does let you haggle down. I dunno- these early 80's USA basses seem to have a good rep. People will pay more than that for a new '57ri (though to be a pedant this isn't a '57ri) Can you get as good bass for less. Yeah. Would I buy this one.... no- i'm trying to sell my own early 80's fender '57ri - would be interesting to compare the two and value for money of them both.... (as in feel free to critique off my bass/price in this discussion too) - end of the day though if you pick it up and it plays amazingly... it's worth it whether it's made by Fender of SX....
Is any bass worth 1500?
not when you keep doing your seasonal offers!
Sorry Luke, I'm still not getting this "sell a bass" thing. Do you mind explaining it again...
well I have a finite amount of 3 things: 1) money 2) space 3) fiancee's goodwill I would like a thumb bass... but to afford it (1) and have space for it (2) without being killed (3) something must be sold first, freeing up money and space (1)(2) I have a number of things I could sell. A SS1, my JV, my Jazzproject, My yamaha SG guitar that I still can't play, and my amp and cab. Now I need one bass and the amp and cab.... so I'll keep the SS1 and rig. That leaves the other stuff... and the only thing worth enough to get the JD is the JV. So this thread is about how you decide between two basses. In my case a JD and a JV. Or.... more on your wavelength.... sell bass= bad, buy bass= good - you want to buy my bass? yes yes yes

Do some people not have "Messenger red notification" enabled?

some folk may be on the mobile version which doesn't flash up as obviously. Some folk just take ages or are busy. I actually set any PM''s to jump up and show ontop of the page. but if you want my bass I'll reply as soon as I get it.... -
Are Stingrays the new Warwicks, price wise?
LukeFRC replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
I dont know, i remember when the fake rolex watch thing kicked off years ago and someone asked the boss at rolex what he thought, he said the sales have gone through the roof as people that can afford (or cant even) now want the real version, two years ago no one knew what a rolex was! Same happens here i bought my first ray in 2002 within a few years i wanted a pre eb. I bought a yamaha virago years ago and got so sick of people asking me if it was a harley davidson i ended up buying one! Ebmm were one of the very last companies to introduce budget versions, squier, epiphone, warwick rock bass, cheap ibanez and yammys, charvel, charvette etc all predate the olp, sterling range and the sub basses in most cases.
rickenbacker havn't yet. -
Well ok, but just the one in Agent Orange's Bloodstains wouldn't have killed him. Possibly. This is the bloke who, during our biggest gig, forgot the time signatures for a song he'd wrote and we'd practised in the dressing room half an hour before.
different time signatures, guitar solos... it's progunk!

LukeFRC replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
Regarding the secondhand prices of Modulus Flea basses , I think one of these would actually be quite a good investment in the sense that there will always be a market for them because of the Flea association , but the price is also undermined by the same factors that bring down secondhand Stingray prices , namely that there are , for an upmarket "designer " bass , quite a few in circulation because of Fleas enduring popularity . A great many of the Modulus Flea basses that you see for sale will have come to the UK via Ebay ect . and so the buyer has only paid the used price of the bass and is likely to be prepared to reflect that price in their asking price when they eventually sell it . Also similaly to the Stingray , the Modulus Flea bass has been around a long time now - it must be nearly 15 years - and so some of them were purchased at prices way below current retail prices , especially when the pound was buying two U.S dollars a few years ago . All of this makes current owners more disposed to sell them at reasonable prices . I would think these basses would be fairly easy to sell , but if you wanted to get top money for one it would have to a recent one in the right colour and spec - they offer quite a few options - and then I would be confident of getting a respectable return on it .
dunno about reasonable return buy silver sparkle ANYTHING has to be good. -

Now the next point that will be raised is there's always someone who thinks that only americans know how to make fender type basses- like it's not a real one unless it says Made in USA on it. well I'm sorry this punctures that idea. -

Will you trade for my Uber-bass with £1000 coming my way too? Er, you can try me with things like that if you want but I doubt I have much money to chuck into a deal! What the hell, why on earth is a Squier bass this much? are you an idiot? etc etc While my main advice would be to get out more and make something of your life more than insulting folk on the web, Please look to the search bar of your favourite browser - type in JV squier and have a read. I pay half you post and pay rest when get here to Ukraine? Er no. Unless you are one of a select band of members you pay first then I post. Have you got any more info about JV Squiers? No, but this webiste does: http://www.21frets.com whats the best way of making you a lower offer to see if you want it? That would be by sending me a PM please. If I send you a message telling you how much it's really worth and that my offer is doing you a favour would you be more likely to sell it to me? Funnily enough no. If you have advice about pricing then that's not a bad thing, if it's the type like "my mate paul looking for one of these but would only pay £1000" then get Paul to email me.... If you really think I will sell it to you for £50 and you're doing me a favour.... do you think this is Gumtree or something? I'm going to defiantly buy it, I'll send the money now. Ok No wait, I would send you the money, but my overpriced bass must sell first, you keep it for me until it sells/I go through uni and get a job? Are the strings on it new? Yep If I sit watching this will you drop the price? No, not how I work- see I don't need to sell this bass, some would say I am an idiot too. If you want a lower price then try offering me a lower price, or wait till another 1st edition JV P bass in this sort of condition comes up at a lower price. Oh and a "what's your best price mate" won't make me happy either. Is this a Fender or a Squier? Oh padawan, you have much to learn.... -

I'm erring towards the thumb. Need to get my bass up for sale again - obviously the whole debate is daft because it's predicated on me being able to sell the JV P bass - which at the moment isn't a given!

Are Stingrays the new Warwicks, price wise?
LukeFRC replied to stingrayPete1977's topic in Bass Guitars
Let me just clarify , I am not suggesting that EBMM basses are not worthwhile instruments because of unstable necks - far from it , I play them myself and find them perfectly well made and very enjoyable basses all round - but I just want to make the point ( again ) that they aren't the last word in quality and durability compared to some other basses in a similar and slightly more expensive price range . I think if you get a good Fender ( emphasis on good ) then it will serve you just as well as EBMM and might even be a bit more robust in the long term . .
mind you don't they tend to use birdseye maple for the necks? which is softer and less appropriate than normal hard maple. But... I think this is a bit of a dead end... I've had basses with graphite rods and without - and you know what both worked ok. I agree with Dingus , a good fender and a good musicman will both be good basses. -
. My punk band turned to sh*te because of people ****ing about one by one..... then the guitarist couldn't be arsed to learn solos.....
Punk with solos? maybe he had a point there....
