[/quote] Aye a knob - but I could deal with that - it was the lack of understanding at how a "wrong" note could even be considered - he obviously knew enough music theory to try and teach me why I was wrong (which I already knew) but not enough to comprehend a dissonant note!

Obviously I'm biased [/quote] I think any "classic" warwick will be a neck through - made in germany, probably before 1992-94 and depending how good the new ones are after whatever point they went up market again.

I know a bit more theory than the OP, but not much more. I can memorise a lot less than 200 songs (having the chords written down makes you lazy!) But I can pick up a bass, listen to a song and come up with parts that work and are right and good. And folk seem to like my playing. So I think I'll call myself a musician. Plus a little theory can be a bad thing. Years back in my first band I couldn't make a gig - so a friend of a friend dep'ed for me - that band was mostly really really simple lines and he turned up and wanted to add double thumbing on a song, and could play all this stuff that was technically way beyond me - obviously he had a bit of theory behind him. We had one song where... well the bass was playing the "wrong" notes I think it was something like the keys was on this pattern in some form of A major and the Bass in a pattern based around A minor or something - can't remember exactly - but what it meant was you had these two shifting melodies and you had dissonant tension and release- and I thought it sounded great! (it did) This fella couldn't cope with the "wrong" notes and dissonance so of course had to tell me it was "wrong" and put it all in the major key - hence the song didn't work!

A good mexican (if you find one) can be as good as an american. Having said that the US vintage reissue series is pretty special.

I have tried both high and low mass bridges.... and a lot of the time I don't think they make a massive difference. My preference is for the sound of the normal fender bridge rather than the more decoupled sound of a high mass bridge- but that's just my preference. Where I think they are a massive upgrade is on cheaper basses - I stuck a high mass (badass sort of size/weight) on a friends squier PJ bass- it took a dull sounding bass and livened it up no end. On a already good sounding bass I think it's less of an upgrade.

Fender Jazz Fender Precision Rickenbacker 4001 Stingray (2eq) Stingray 5 G&L L1000 Warwick Streamer Stage 1/Spector NS (controversially I would say warwick is the more "classic" version of Ned Steinberger's design, at least this side of the pond) Warwick Thumb NT 5 Gibson EB Gibson Thunderbird Hofner Violin Peavey T40 Beyond that there are the Wal/Steinberger/Jaydee 80's stuff, and some quite cool stuff from Gibson in the 70's but none of it would be classic I think.

should be fairly easy fix - I can't imagine they use high spec parts. Only thing may be how do you get to it? hopefully not through the F hole....

I had one bass. needed a P bass so bought that. Sold my first bass to buy a Warwick which I had wanted for ages. So had two basses. Picked up a variety of fretlesses and jazzes and stuff just to try. Didn't cost me much and I could try something new and sell it for normally the cost of a cinema ticket.
