Oh that's kinda disapointing. I would have put money on of the two basses I traded, my jazz turned out to be a turd of basswood laminated with some kind of plastic stuff and your one would have been solid wood.

lacking in output.... set them nearer the strings? Otherwise you want a higher output type sound? If I could go for any pups it would be nordstand

Good quality stuff, actually with a realation to Ibanez and the body wood on that model I would expect from memory to be mahogany. With new tuners and bridge.... I would say it's probably a nice instrument

Plasti-kote colours comes in gloss, satin and matt right.... now if I want a really gloss finish would you put a gloss acrylic clear coat over the top? and if so could you use a matt or satin finish underneath? or do you not need the top coat?

[/quote] depending on the design brief... the bmw guys who designed the bongo went for basswood. Ok they also designed the bongo so possibly that doesn't say anything - but just that everything is chosen for a reason. the "fender woods" of alder and maple I'm guessing were chosen to use partly as they were cheap for Leo to get his hands on.

you'll pay for this by selling off the bits you don't need

surprised about the change in tuners. I always liked the yamaha 'hearts'

nice bass... where did you get that? would look good if you had a hardcase built for it....

Alinco however.... has alinco magnets as the pole pieces - so no aditional magnet on the bottom. Both are different and one is not nesserally better than the other (but ceramic can be cheaper to make)

[/quote] yeah, you know how plastic cement slightly melts plastic to stick onto it - it seems to do the same. It's good for some things... but for others not so good, that's what I found on my sculpture degree, useless on polystyrene! (and graphitti paint was also cheaper)

Disolves plastic My advice... if you want cheap spray paints (cheaper than plasticote) find out where the local graphitti artists get their stuff, it's basically modified car paint and runs about £5 a can.

interesting... the bass I traded and am doing up was supposed to be squier river series. I suspect it's a squier japan neck and random body- it's got a swimming pool rout so not able to jaco it up like you can. Out of interest what are the pups like? are they alinco or ceramic?
