[/quote] The way I see it you have a number of options.... 1) pay someone to set this up properly... 2) learn to do it yourself properly... this will entail doing things in the right order, reading a lot to understand what you're doing and why and taking your time. For example an instrument is either intonated correctly or it's not, "Pretty well" suggests it's not. Truss rod, possible shim, action, intonation is the order I do things in normally. The way the strings are wound on to the tuners can sometimes affect why they may feel "flappy"- you should read enough to learn what "break angle" is and means. 3) sell the bass as is and get something else. trade it on here even.

I'm kinda doing the opposite. I have two guitars that hardly get played- so one, and maybe both of them are going to go. Maybe in the future I may regret it but we shall see - I can't see the point in holding onto gear that's flipping awesome- but not played. If I do sell though and in the future come back to it I'll be kicking myself, I think I would have to spend a lot to find something as nice. oh well

[/quote] The intonation is out because it will need to be re set up when you change the strings- I can set up a £50 bass to intonate properly, your one is far higher quality than that. The Height of the E string also possibly needs altering. To a lesser extent the way you wind the strings onto the headstock can change the tension slightly. The relief of the neck is also important. As for the balance... how do you hold the bass? is your left hand thumb resting on the centre of the neck and when playing are both wrists relaxed and more or less straight? I think, if I were to guess, that you have a badly set up bass played with bad technique. a lesson with someone who can set your bass up and give some tips on playing may help

Eventually got kicked out, problem being that most the rest of them wanted to be this really tight unit, and having other things in my life and other friends I didn't want to give my life to it. I also missed out on the fag break bonding times. I was however good at talking and communicating in a band where we were bad at it... got caught in a power struggle between the keys player and the guitarists (also a couple oddly) as to who led the band (when before it had been me and the keys player). Kicked out, well walked out- it wasn't messy but didn't want to hang out with them much after. and i got to hear the new girl murder the songs as she did her own thing and gradually going back to my lines. Anyway years later they get in touch to ask me what I had input into, I said I didn't care really, they insisted and then were a bit surpried how much I had written lyrics or vocal melodies for. They are on iTunes now, so no doubt someones making money from them but, meh who cares was my attitude. I think for the OP writing a letter claiming credit to the management of the band, and the label wouldn't be a bad idea. I'm sure I used to know someone who had like a normal 4x10 but the back and sides were molded out of one piece o brown fiberglass. Weighed nothing. but was very very unbalanced as all the weight was at the front where the speakers were. Never seen anything like it since

sounds good john! The 5th ani one has got a nice fat tone, surprisingly liked it a lot! The 1990 one sounded more familiar- if slightly brighter sounding- probably the strings (nickels?) the amp cab setup works really well with it. Which works in the mix better? I found the dolphin too... I think you need new strings!
